Help Wanted
Submitted by JtC on Tue, 01/16/2018 - 12:08pm
There is an opening for the Tuesday Open Thread if anyone would like to take/try it. If so contact me via Private Messaging or the "Contact Us" link in the header at the top of the page, or let me know in this essay. To PM me click "Messages" in the header at the top of the page, then click "Write new message" and type my username (JtC) in the "To" field and type the subject and message then click "Send message".
In addition we will be going offline periodically the next week or two for regular maintenance and updates. I'll try to do most of it late at night, probably around 12:00 midnight central time. I'll try to keep the downtime as brief as possible.
Thanks in advance.

You may have noticed...
that now you have to include a subject line when posting comments, that was implemented last night. That should alleviate the long numerical strings in the subject line that are especially noticeable in the "Recent Comments" list.
Is there a "job description?"
I think most of us can guess at it, but if there are actual specifics (or expectations), that could be helpful for those who might be considering it.
Yep...
post an open thread every Tuesday morning at @ 6:00 or 7:00 AM eastern time. Our scheduler comes in very handy for publishing at that time.
The Open Thread content can be whatever the author wishes, on any topic or no topic at all. It can be as long or as short as the author desires. It is really quite flexible.
Open Threads are meant to be meeting places for members and also a space to drop whatever info that a member desires, links, announcements, etc.

Thanks for the heads up JtC, and all the good works.
I look at all the appearance and navigational upgrades you have done over the last year on desktop as well as mobile version and I love them!
And now might be a good time to throw some dough at the site ? !
Here comes the updates, hell, 'here comes the sun!'
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Thanks do...
the updates will just be software updates and not an upgrade so there'll be no outward changes to the site. Although there may be some new features added along with the updates.
Just, cough, cough, software updates. Just, mind you. ;-)
Thanks.

Yeah...
they're a pain in the ass, but must be done.

Umm, doesn't marijuana count as firmware??
And JtC is right. They need to get done. Our community, in the end, is dependent on the reliable operation of one computer, the c99 server.
We need that box to work reliably.

Oh yeah, I was just snarking about "just", having done a
few shitloads of them myself. Not always easy, not always smooth, and far from always bugless.

te audio, amice! I just had to reconstruct the laptop I use for c99 when it locked up during an operating system upgrade! As you say -- correctly! -- "Not always easy, not always smooth, and far from always bugless."
