Who will Trust the United States after This?

Quick hit.

I'm seeing that said a lot in the commentary regarding Trump's asinine, pathetic and completely subservient speech saying he doesn't like the Iran nuclear weapons "deal".

I just read it again, "Who would trust America’s word after deal-break Trump?" Well intentioned writers who rightly castigate Trump and his administration's stance on Iran can't help but try to strengthen their argument by lamenting about U.S. trustworthiness if the deal ends broken.

Come on, man.

Who trusted the U.S. before this? Please let me know. The only ones I can think of are the people who are demanding everyone stand for the national anthem AND respect AND believe in this country, or leave. Who happen to be largely the same people who would support Trump and the U.S. attacking Iran.

But other countries? They'd have to be as foolish as most Americans. The trustworthiness of the United States was settled a long time ago. Ask Native Americans about treaties and deals.

as for this:

The best way to minimize international opprobrium and maximize support (however, grudging or covert) is to strike only when there is a widespread conviction that the Iranians were given but then rejected a superb offer

Iran didn't reject the deal though. They signed on in hopes that by doing so, it would be a way to stop Israel from telling congress to go to war with them.
If Trump pulls out of the deal and thinks that gives him a green light to bomb Iran, I doubt the other countries on this agreement will just stand by and watch. I really doubt that Putin is going to roll over and watch us destroy another country that he has interests with. He helped stop Obama, Israel Saudi Arabia and Qatar from ousting Assad and I think the other countries on this deal would not join us.,
I keep hoping that Trump's boorish behavior is going to be the catalyst that pushes others from joining our marching destruction. It has to stop sometime.

But what is the "loyal opposition"? They are a bunch of war-mongering whores constituting the Democratic Party. Yes, this spoilage of our planet will stop, only after the sands glow with radioactive isotopes.

"The 2009 Brookings Institution report "Which Path to Persia?" would explicitly describe this ploy, stating:

...any military operation against Iran will likely be very unpopular around the world and require the proper international context—both to ensure the logistical support the operation would require and to minimize the blowback from it. The best way to minimize international opprobrium and maximize support (however, grudging or covert) is to strike only when there is a widespread conviction that the Iranians were given but then rejected a superb offer—one so good that only a regime determined to acquire nuclear weapons and acquire them for the wrong reasons would turn it down. Under those circumstances, the United States (or Israel) could portray its operations as taken in sorrow, not anger, and at least some in the international community would conclude that the Iranians “brought it on themselves” by refusing a very good deal."

The whole World pretty much knows that Trump is the aggressor here and at this point would see right through using this as justification for war with Iran. Iran has been complying with deal which is why the US is the Country getting the "international opprobrium". The MIC/Oil oligarchy is going to have to come up with another sick, devious plan to provoke war and they probably are hard at work on that.

@Timmethy2.0 Iran was not going to violate the deal so they have to get out of it someway or make it so Iran will violate it or perhaps refuse to renegotiate. They're reaching here no doubt. Trump's speech was so fucking pathetic, as I said above, it shows how desperate they are to take down Iran.

@Big Al She pretty said that she would look for any excuse in terms of Iranian violating the agreement as an excuse to attack Iran. You know, she was forced to do it by the Iranians.

@thanatokephaloides
but exactly what it refers to seems oddly vague. Whose interests might we be we talking about? Whatever these might be, the USG spends an awful lot of time and money "defending" them. For instance, the US military is set to spend $5.2bn on the continent of Africa in 2018, with 1,500 US troops currently stationed in the region. That's a lot of logistics to handle for a nation as cash-strapped as ours claims to be.

When I struggle with defining something, a lot of times is best to whittle it down from what it is not. As soon as I do that with National Interests, the thing I'm struck with is that our National Interests are, literally, everywhere on the planet.

There is nowhere on Earth that our interests, or potential interests, are not in play.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

on loss of confidence in the US due to Trump I find myself simply shaking my head. Even some of the best writers do that and I always want to call them out on it. Trump only says what none of the other slick "leaders" of this country did not say, but they sure as hell think it and act on it too. Look at Hillary screaming about another 9/11 regarding Russia. That should indeed shake the confidence of any other nation when dealing with this country. But as we know, all those remarks about loss of confidence are really for domestic consumption, the rest of the world has our number for damned sure. We are the biggest threat to world peace, and really, to life on earth as we know it. And Trump fits this country like a glove in that respect.
