Buonasera, chaps and chapettes.
Dreadful weather over the last week, so some stuff from late September.
Some clouds (as is my wont):
A Painted Lady, doing his/her thing outside the porch:
Other than that, I don't have much. It's been 'news avoidance week', what with Trump, Las Vegas and the situation in Spain. My enthusiasm has definitely been curbed (Larry David helps though).
Over and almost out.

Oh, and one more from today's rain

I really like this shot, BR
It was hot here in San Diego today.
Before it got hot I got a few shots.

97! Yikes! I caught a bee sleeping under a flower. I'll have to rummage.

Nice photos Social
Do you know what those did flowers are?
Thank you Janis.
I'm sorry, Janis, I don't know what type of flowers they are. I found them in the cactus garden at Balboa park. They were very small, no more than a 1/4 inch in size.

Evening Bollox.
Thanks for posting your beautiful photos, and tonights POT.
I wonder if your painted butterfly joined this group?
Patterns ...
Hey Janis
That would be a long flight for a small butterfly, but they are amazing creatures. The top shot: is that wood, rock?
Gëzuar!!

It is both rock and wood.
It is a stone tile on a wood deck, with impressions of the stones that were lying on top.

Hi riverlover
I also live in bush land that's not too far down the road from sheep fields. They are very contrasting places. What are the colours of multi coloured sheep???
evening bollox...
here's one from a sunny day a couple of weeks ago.
Hello Joe
The Monarchs seem to have moved on our end. Still, we had more fluttering around than we've had for a decade, so that's good news.
Gëzuar!!

we've had more monarchs this year...
than i've seen in the last few years. a couple of years ago was the worst, i only saw two of them around ms. shikspack's garden all summer that year. ms. shikspack plants a virtual feast for caterpillars and butterflies every year and we have watched the monarchs numbers dwindle for a decade. hopefully, now they are back on an upswing.
Monarchs seem to have become the iconic butterfly

Such beautiful light and focus.
Thanks joe.
thanks janis! n/t
Nice, joe
We used to have many more monarchs passing through to wherever they were going, but I can go all summer without seeing one.
Every day another species goes extinct. How very sad.
How about we tell what type of camera we use? I have two canons. One is a point and shoot with the same control settings as my canon 40 D with a tamron 28-300 lens. The lowest aperture is 3.5
My uncle is going to give me his 28-55 canon lens which has a 2.8 aperture.
Plus I have a canon elan and a Pentax? with a 600mm lens and a 3x telexextender.
I took this with it. Not too shabby for an off market brand.
Ahh, the days when we took a roll of 36 pictures and only got 3-5 pictures that were worth keeping.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Ahh, is right.
There was special thrill in that process. The degree of anticipation was a wonderful part of it!
And we had to pay for every print.

We have been having unusual clouds this week
I don't remember seeing this type of formation before and I have pictures of another unusual formation, but I haven't been able to download them yet.
I love watching this chestnut tree move through the seasons. In the spring it's loaded with flowers on long stems that will grow into chestnuts. It fascinating how all living things know what to do as they grow.
Today was absolutely gorgeous. The air was clear, sky was a deep blue and the temperature was just right. A perfect fall afternoon.
Unless my ashes are scattered to the winds, this lonely person is going to get company.
Abby having a dawg day afternoon.
I've mentioned that I used to be involved with bonsai and since then I look at trees with more wonder. Many bonsai trees will be altered as to have this type of look. The area where the branches are dead is called a jin when branches are altered. Most will have only one area that has this effect.
Look at how blue the sky is.
The dawgs call this their dawg park because they get to be off leash most of the time. They think people come here to see them and they take their jobs as greeters seriously.

It was
The week before we went from 85 on Monday to 57 Thursday and it rained in the valley and snowed in the mountains. It stayed cold for a few days and warmed up again this week until Sunday....
This has been a weird year. In the spring it went from cool to hot in days and then the other way a week later.
The leaves are starting to change and yesterday the clouds finally disappeared from the mountains so we went up to take pictures of the leaves. Bummer. The aspens haven't begun to change and they don't look like they are even thinking about it.
Oh well, it's only a 30 minute drive.
I don't remember if I've posted this picture of my town, but this shows how close the mountains are. I can be hiking in one of the canyons 10 minutes after I leave home.
On the back of the mountain is Snowbasin ski resort. This used to be Utah's best kept secret for skiing. People would fly into SLC and go to the ski resorts there while we had the basin all to ourselves.
I live 10 blocks to the right of the church in this picture.
This is Snowbasin where the Olympic downhill races were

I’ve seen that picture of your town,
and every time I see it I think it looks like a picture-book setting - unlike anything I’ve seen or any place I’ve been. In the photo it’s deserted of people and that makes me wonder what the locals are like even more. Somehow I find this photo very evocative.
You’re lucky to live with such natural beauty surrounding you. It keeps you sane, no?
Tell 'Abby' she's a pretty girl! *smile* EOM

Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
She may be a pretty girl
but she has been very naughty lately. The minute I turn my back, she slips over the cliff and goes down into people's yards and totally ignores me when I tell her to get back here. She has decided that she is a beagle now because they don't mind. Charlie is a Saint compared to Abby lately.
This picture is so precious. This is the start of a great friendship.

Hey, SD--you'll get no argument out of me, that

I would judge that one sick tree
I still have a boxed fig tree in my car and a boxed spruce at the end of my driveway. Remember elm trees? Or chestnuts? Did we blame one on the Dutch and the other on China? And then there were the gypsy moths. Now Roma is to blame. My hillside was sprayed with Bt by airplane one year. Just a phase, but terrible defoliation for several years. And itchy stings from caterpillar fuzz.

Canadians go to the town dumps to watch the bears
Thanks for hosting tonight, Bollox. I agree that we need the diversion.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Bears lounging around in a dump?!
Sad and funny.
Hi, Janis! Thanks for bringing up
the point that--aside from looking a bit comical, from the aspect of the image, only--it is a tragedy that these animals' habitats have been encroached upon to the extent that they are reduced to scavaging in human litter/dumps in order to survive.
Mr M met a Guy while we were in Alaska who had been badly mauled by a bear. It happened in his own back yard. In spite of his suffering and disfigurement, he was philosophical about the incident--pretty much acknowledging that what happened to him was, at least partly, due to his choice to live in the 'Alaska Bush.'
Have a nice weekend!

Wow, that's a pretty philosophical and enlightened guy,
there in the Alaskan Bush.
I'm glad I don't have to depend on any of your leftovers tonigh
I will be trying some new food at a restaurant that fuses Peruvian and Japanese cooking. Should be interesting!
I keep going back to look at the first and last shots,
and now I know why. He reminds me of myself because of the postures he is sitting in, especially one leg folded under the other ; ).
I first thought this was a person in ab bear suit
The poses look like a human, but it's really a bear. Canadians make a day out of their trips to the dumbs to watch the bears. The way that they are sitting is hilarious. Maybe this is like another country's Yellowstone.
Bear seen lounging on couch 'just like a person' at Canadian dump
There are many articles about this if you do a search for 'bears at Canadian dumps.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
“Maybe this is like another country's Yellowstone.”
That statement is just as sad and funny as the fact that bears cruise dumps. It’s such a sad statement about the bigger picture of things.
It’s true, now that you mention it. I can imagine they might be people in bear suits.
Hey, hilarious Bear shots, SD! And, thanks to BR, and
to all of our Community photographers for posting your excellent work!
Pretty pooped this evening due to unexpected events, so I'll spare you Guys, and not post one of my stock photos.
Have a nice weekend; hope everyone manages to stay out of the path of Nate.

Here's our bus:
Here's our bus:
We've taken her from MI to St Louis and back to NY. Here she is sitting outside our training studio in NY.

I find these photos very graphically appealing.
I am also curious whether it's your bus that you're driving, and what kind of training you do. It's such a classic NY building. Is it one of the boroughs?
Thank you for participating.
Our Building Makes for Good Composition for Photos
Lots of them come out amazing. It helps that we have the Hudson Valley light too -- there's a reason those artists hiked up the Hudson back in the 18th Century...
It is our bus, we purchased it in late August after being out bid on it at auction a few weeks before.
I teach people to play frisbee with their dogs, and to a lesser extent work with other dog sport peeps on improving performance. My GF runs an assistance dog program for a pretty serious non-profit based out of the Hudson Valley.
Thank you,

Really interesting work you and your GF do.
I wasn't aware that type of work existed - training through sport with dogs. Sounds like quite a fun fitness program for man and dog.
It is a Lifestyle, For Sure.
There are a handful of us in various dog sports that teach full time, but not very many.
Frisbee, in particular, doesn't have much going on from an organized or pro instruction angle, as it's a real counter culture game -- even the squares are hippies.
But we do good work, and address it from dog training, kinesthetic, and learning theory perspectives, which gives us a lot of flexibility and elegance in addressing complex team activities.
It's scary from an economic perspective, not a lot of money to be made, but enough to live and do some amazing things.
“Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” ~ Sun Tzu
Oh, so it’s also an approach to addressing
complex team activities. You mean like learning how to interact as a team more successfully to achieve the goals. Does that include other types of teams outside of sports? I hope you can sustain that lifestyle for as long as you’d like.
A bus with a slide-out?
I've seen Prevost motor homes with slide outs, but not a regular bus. What do you use this for and do you drive it?
Prevosts are some of the most pretentious motor homes and I have never understood why two people need such a huge RV. It's like two people living in a 30,000 sf home. I wonder if this gives them the space they need to keep their marriages from failing or a status symbol?
I was quite happy with my 15 ft trailer which could go anywhere. These huge RVs can only go to paved campgrounds. Yuck.
This was living for my dawgs and me. I would go to the Sierra and find a fire road and then a clearing and pull into it and wholaa, I'm camping in the middle of nature with no one to bug me.

No Slide. It's an MCI, an Old Greyhound, That Was Repurposed
into a large corporate donation to the Detroit Public Schools Athletic Department in 2010.
It's big, but it's not quite that big, and it's not Prevost big, but we do need the 40' length AND large luggage bays (3 bays at 55"x33"x88") to accommodate all of our dogs and our gear while on the road.
We've been on the road, primarily, with more than a dozen dogs for a few years now, moving from base to base, camp to camp, coast to coast, and top to bottom of the US in the Sprinter van. That's been really hard on the pack (humans included).
We require 2 rooms, of pretty much any size, to make the pack comfy and functional. We can do that in the bus.

Thank you for the beautiful
Thank you for the beautiful pictures. I get so tired and discouraged, that it does good to be reminded of the things that we must fight for.
