Commenter more than essayist

Hi some know me, others are not familiar with me, but I do comment at times, and I have bouts where I stay silent and lurk. My health is poor, and shot, and I do look at what I can to see how things are shaping up past my computer, in a double-wide these days, on a hill, in the middle of East Bum-F$%#. Please bear with me, I did warn I am in a biting mood as seen by my most recent comments in some of your essays. I also rarely will pull a punch.

To say I have seen this nation become a living combination of Idiocracy, does not cover the levels of toxic salt I have in me for the way this nation picks leaders, and how we let the Billionaires get first money via tax breaks(Reagonomics started it), but how we are seeing taxpayer dollars funneled and for why. I could go on a longer rant for each point, but I will try to keep this short.

We live in Dystopia, most of you know it, others feel it. I am disabled and living on SSI, and therefore a so called "Taker" as they demonize us who are needing the social safety nets of the FDR era.The same programs demonized by the Parasite class who are the true "Takers" the Greedy, sociopathic wealthy class. (I know there are a few exceptions who see there is a problem with being so wealthy at the expense of others and the nation. This Orwellian, mean spirited, and nasty-vicious version of Idiocracy leaves me wondering why bother saving Humanity when they are working so diligently at mining as much wealth as they can while denying the harm done by our current systems of control/production/distribution?

I guess, they will prefer like that kid pulling wings off flies to watch our suffering before they finally head to underground bunkers if they have them as the conspiracy theories state, and push the Big Red Button and get it over with and let the planet repair itself that way. If they decide to do that, let the nukes fly, at least it would be faster than this long drawn out, mind numbing show of irrational stupid, and insane way they are leading us and taking what they want.

If only the system was more a "Hey we need good people in charge, so here is your lottery number pulled (SSN), and you need to spend a few years leading and helping shape policy not based on what some guy pays you, or what pressure groups want, but what is for the good of all overall, no more psychos and sociopaths seeking to rule stupidly over others just to make a career of it.

That might see us making less wars, and only when absolutely needed, keeping the MIC in check and on standby instead of dominating policy.(The irony of coming resource wars is that the amount of resources spent on, and in wars outstrips the gains from stealing from other countries). We might see Infrastructure working and healthy so we have faster trains to transport people and goods, bridges not crumbling, and clean drinking water in places like Flint, MI. Our education might be better, and public education up to college levels, a universal health care system would be possible. And folks would be worried less about if they would have support to pay rent/bills/feed themselves. I support that kind of platform, and who knows, we might be liked again in the world, instead of hated so much and feared by our allies who see us as that gun armed crazy guy next door.

I could also go on about ranked voting and paper ballots, as well as a multiple party system as opposed to our two sides of a coin system for elections, or a lottery system that makes decent people serve a short while and then move on, Make it harder to buy officials,. a more fair and progressive taxation system so the parasites pay their fair share at last, and others pay what will let them be happy as the taxes pay for things that all can enjoy, and access, not just the greedy, selfish few.

Now back to lurking and commenting.

Exactly!!

An occasional essay from you would be most welcome!

And for the record: I, too, live on SSI and would probably be dead without it.

Umair Haque is correct: reality is leftist! Unfettered, naked, aggressive capitalism cannot fix the world it broke.

does a nation ("The Gov't") turn its back on Flint? We pour resources into Hurricane storms, not a dime for Flint. Flint? Fuckum!

And there's nothing wrong with lurking or limiting your participation to comments. As far as Essays go, I pride myself on keeping a low bar for writing essays. I pick a topic and select a few block quotes broken up by my patented pithy comments. For one, hunting and pecking in my phone gets tedious and two, IMHO, the article I quote and the comments from the good folks here at c99% are the real story.

C99% values any and all productive participation, which is why I like it here.

@Lenzabi What you posted resonates with me, and I suspect for a lot of folks here. It's good to know we're not alone in what we're seeing and experiencing and feeling.

And the more we say it and name it, out loud, the closer I believe we get to the "tipping point" in the mainstream consciousness where change will be inevitable.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

Thanks for writing this essay, I could have written almost every paragraph myself. It's a different view looking up from bottom of my "ditch". People just keep falling in alongside me, instead of anyone getting out. Just call me a ditch bitch.

Tip of the day, never web search the phrase "life expectancy [chronic condition]" if not fully prepared for the info that comes back. Experiencing "the safety net" as it is, not what I thought it was. Shock with no recovery. "That's the system." in California. "We try to mitigate that." means good jobs program for upper professional class, fuck the poors! Thanks Jerry Brown, Gavin Newsom. Just kill me now.

Zuckerberg is EVIL incarnate, and worshiped, wtf?! Big Al's essay Midnight Special made me remember my parents taking us to The Human Be-In at the Polo Grounds in GG Park, I was 8 and my siblings were teens. It is on the youtube, totally bizarre. I couldn't watch it long, makes me sick to my stomach, what doesn't. Dystopia came quick is how it feels, I didn't see enough to know enough. Or something.

good luck

At least we had a few years of FDR and still have SSI. It's time to band together with like minded folks in our respective communities. We are going to need each other as the collapse progresses.
