We told y'all.
- African American Proverb -

Society, brought to you by the Dunning Kruger Effect. Even the conservative business rag agrees.

My oldest is all spun up and wants to go fight Nazis. He has been online trolling and reports schisms among the twenty somethings. He and his more progressives friends attended high school here in North Carolina. There is plenty of revisionist history and romanticizing The Civil War. I have had to talk to my son about using intellect over impulse.

The ruling elite are truly out of syncopation with the society we live in. We should drum them out of town.

The depravity of the apologists and deflectors is appalling. The both siderism and regurgitation of talking points is inane and embarrassing. I can only imagine what the rural papers are running. Funkin' propagandists.

The orders for the day are situational awareness, stealth and predetermined scenario decisions. Our local statue topplers have been charged with felonies. Just so I understand, we as a society protect the free speech rights of armed ideologues intent on committing mayhem, but not the descendants of slavery? It is tough to counsel my son on passive resistance while fighting the impulse to join the ignoble fray.

I don't have a whole lot to say that is sufficiently dignified to put into print. I have been working on the anger stage of grieving and have been cussing too much. Likewise, counter protesting probably is not advisable. A trigger event is too likely. Call me alt-left, if that is how your filing system works.

I hope everyone is weathering this jazz. I have advised my son to go enjoy life and live among the people, rather than fixating on the fascists. The opportunities to undermine their depravity will present themselves.

That feels better, more.

Have a great funkin' weekend!

I look forward to a taco truck on every corner! Smile

Love to all my brothers and sisters. We are all just shades of brown.

Mention to your son that it's good the Nazi's/white supremacists (ws) are showing up. Mention that it's better they are not hiding behind their keyboards, these days. We want to know them. It's the only way to defeat them. Herr Drumpf has given them permission to expose themselves. Know thy neighbor for s/he may be a Nazi/ws in disguise. Mention that educating himself about them and using his words to keep the light shining on who they really are is the way to bring them down.

I, too, am not insulted by the term alt-left, but do also consider myself extreme-left.

Boy, do I remember the anger phase in my grieving process. I still cuss up a storm, 30 years later, sigh.

Looking forward to a road trip to visit my daughter. Should be nice weather, where she lives, this weekend.

Have a beautiful day and weekend, folks! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann ... for years. I am a big fan of SPLC, and Sue was on the gang task force.

Enjoy your road trip and visit. The past week has been tough to enjoy. I am able to stay off the Internet, but my son hits the Internet, then starts ranting. Soon enough, he should start to understand that is what they want. So, don't give it to them.

I saw an editorial with the basic premise that the early 20th century Nazis were pure evil, where today's American Nazis are stupid evil. I can see that. Sometimes the best way to fight stupid is to let stupid have its way (within reason), so they can shit where they eat.

Local friends plan a trek to Franklin for the darkness; can't afford nor do i have time to go; actually may be down the hill either Mon or Tues for Mom's stuff.

As you probably know, the NCGA hopes to pass 'run 'em over legislation...reaching the bottom seems to be the repug goal. Reminds me of Jessie Helm's clarion call to put a fence around Chapel Hill.

Funny after all these years, I didn't know what the statue of Silent Sam stood for--viewed from my old office window.

Much red-tape to finish by Wednesday; good news, son is coming for a two-week visit, soon, can't wait; bless he and his wife's heart as they have recently given up their pretty sweet life in Wilmington and moved to DC to take care of my daughter-in-law's sister who has a raging breast cancer, age 35.

Many thanks for this OT and in case you missed 'the poem.' Smile

@smiley7 I am glad we were unaware of the happenings in Charlottesville, while we hoisted. I turned my phone on, Sunday morning, and had a lengthy manic text from my son. The morning campground scene was surreal. Everybody hurriedly broke camp and headed home. I bagged and strapped the wet stuff and was on the road by 10. Back home by 1:30, with that numb and anguished feeling.

I talked you into cutting through the red tape? I caught your post, on the phone. The phone is a PIA. It constantly reloads the page making it nearly impossible to read let alone comment.

The good news is your son is interested. The bad news is he is young and thinks he can change the world. I have a middle, millennial grandson, who is not stupid and not academically inclined. At 21, he is delivering pizzas. Mom said, that's it, no more pizza, quit now, and go get a real job. Easier said than done when all you have is a HS diploma and all you've ever done is deliver pizza. Career is also a really big word when you are 21 and just want to grow up to be a DJ and create your own digital music. What to do, what to do?

So he got a job in a medical pot dispensary. It is only 25 hours a week for now, and they want him to work the store and the farm. He has his foot in the door of a booming industry and an opportunity to learn all about the business. It is also non-traditional employment, which suits him to a tee. We are encouraging him to pursue the industry as his career. If he learns enough and shows some business acumen, maybe someday grandma and grandpa will become partners in a pot store/farm. Recreational in Michigan is gathering signatures, again, to make the next ballot. Last time, the Sessions clone of a judge threw the petition and all of its signatures out. Michigan is beet red and not embracing legal pot, medical or otherwise. They issue medical cards and then make it really hard if not impossible for dispensaries to operate in the state. It makes us worry about him in this field in Michigan, but I believe legalization is inevitable despite loony Sessions. Our grandson is familiar with the outfit he works for, and he assures us they are very conscious of the law and do everything required to follow it. Anyway, Ohio is gearing up and more states than not have approved medical pot. He talks about moving to Florida or California. We think it would be a good career match for him and give him the opportunity to earn a lot of money if he ever becomes entrepreneurially inclined.

@dkmich ... attended a college, where a bunch of his friends were in the Ag program and went to CO to work. The production side is Ag work, pays like Ag work and has hours like Ag work. The distribution side is customer service work. Typically, state's legislation is skewed toward corporate interests. It appears, to me, that the small business sweet spot is gardening and supply for the home grower.

@NCTim

I don't think it is any way to make a living unless you go into business for yourself. I just can't imagine my grandson, today, working a regular job or learning a trade. Maybe when he's older, we grew up so fast compared to kids today, things will change. Thanks for the info.

black rectangles when not playing. Yet another feud Firefox for Ubuntu is having with Flash or something, I suspect. But, suspecting I knew the tune, I went straight to Peanuts and was right. Thanks.

Getting ready to run up to a great little getaway this weekend, right where the Russian River meets the Pacific. No WiFi, no cell reception, no TVs, sort of half way to bliss.

Thanks for supporting the SPLC. I've been a monthly donor for so damn long that they made me a life member. Great group.

Alt-Left? Sounds like a keyboard command. I'll stik with the good old "Radical Left" they hung on us in the sixties. I figure it either has too many syllables for today's "centrists" or too many letters for twitter. Not my problem.

Have a good one.

My computer and modem are only civil half-time now. I restart the computer several times a day. But it's the phone service here. Exceeds bandwidth often. Streaming TV is hard with buffering. My daughter and her husband are paying $160/month for TWC and internet. Online robbery!

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

McClatchy got the scoop,

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the news in a written statement.
“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve's last day,” it read. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

So Trump has ditched his most colorful color-commentator. And maybe the last original thinker left in the White House.
