A troublesome but necessary announcement.
My laptop, the computer I was using to communicate regularly with c99p, is dead. It died yesterday afternoon.
It died of dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) poisoning. The DHMO entered the machine whilst it was running, from an unintentional spill, and I have been unable to bring it up since.
I am writing this Essay on a borrowed machine.
Because of this unfortunate development, it will sometimes take longer for me to respond to your kind responses and Comments than it did before, as I will need to return this computer back to the loving, kind friend who lent it to me from time to time. (Hopefully, in the same dry condition she lent it to me in!)
My apologies for any inconveniences this may cause our community here.
One request: If any of you possess an old (but alive) laptop which you are preparing to throw away, please consider throwing it my way. Any such c99er, please leave me a private message. Thank You!

Best of luck, at any rate. Trying to manage without internet leaves some of us very isolated - although I know that I always look forward to reading your commentary, so some of this concern is also selfish.

Sorry for your loss. But, there is life after death.
With a small Philips head screwdriver the hard drive can be removed and pictures and documents can be recovered. You can even get an external disk drive case powered by USB port and use the old drive as a backup.
Been there done that. And, it WAS the Russians for sure.

Courtesy of a borrowed hair dryer and some great advice from Great Lakes Sailor, I've got much of the old box back, at least enough to know that the HDD is OK and to mouse some critical files onto a flash drive for use on the borrowed machine. I still have no keyboard response, so I may need to replace the keyboard. Trying that will be the next step.

A.U. does usually recommend amputation. It is generally fast and (relatively) painless.
An external keyboard may work for
home use. Would need a usb port. I use an external at my home station because it is more comfortable to type.
Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.

Have you considered a Raspberry Pi?
They are really amazing and with just a couple youtube videos you will have it set up in no time and easily able to do stuff like browse the internet etc.
You can even use an app to turn your phone into your keyboard/mouse/touchscreen type display because it has built in bluetooth and wifi.
If you would like to know more let me know, I'd be happy to answer whatever questions I can. (I am still working on learning all mine can do, lol!)
I got mine on Amazon but they are also readily available on Ebay, etc.
The kit is so easy to put together you will likely be up and running in under 10 mins.

This thing is really small! slightly thicker than a pack of playing cards.
I carry it and an external hard drive when I travel and use it to watch movies, internet, etc.
You can access netflix, youtube and most android compatible apps and such as well. There are dozens of different operating systems available, all free open source, and some are really sweet. I am still trying to decide what flavor I like the best.

You have identified and clear and present danger to the cyber community. DHMO must be outlawed--some of it does come from Russia. Please report this unfortunate incident to the following: EPA care of Rick Perry, DHS, Congressional intelligence committee, and National Science foundation.
Through my extensive aquatic experience I have found that the following mixture: Si-Dioxide + DHMO + electricity reliably elicits an exothermic reaction. This is a potent cyber weapon. The Government must intercede, but action will probably be stymied by Apple and Microsoft as an unnecessary intrusion into the market and general abuse of warranty.
