Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
Something Old
Tortoises are pretty damned cool animals. This one is the oldest land animal on earth at 184 years.
In other news, a D-Day veteran of 101 years, 38 days may have just set the Guinness Record for the oldest person to make a tandem skydiving jump. 4 generations of his family participated in the jump:
Bryson William Verdun Hayes, known as Verdun, made a tandem jump at the age of 101 years and 38 days, the company says. Skydive Buzz posted a video of the adventure, showing Hayes taking to the sky, floating to the ground and lying down, jubilant, after the jump.
"Hooray!" he said, arms up high in celebration.
How was he feeling?
"Oh, absolutely over the moon," he said.
Something New
There are new episodes of Sense8, a joint project of the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski.
It's a very good science fiction series about 8 people who suddenly become psychically linked in a cluster, and who are hunted by a nasty shadowy organization that tends to lobotomize people like them:
I am currently watching the new episodes. I recommend the series highly, though I should point out that it is pointedly sex-positive, to the extent that, if you are uncomfortable watching explicit sex scenes you will probably not like the show.
Something Borrowed
There's now an app for keeping track of things you loan to friends.
http://lifehacker.com/you-borrowed-it-keeps-track-of-the-things-you-loan...
Some people might applaud that; I'm more inclined to smack my forehead in dismay, because I'm sick of outsourcing every damned thing the human mind can do to a machine.
Here's a more fun instance of borrowing: the series Stranger Things, set in the 80s, has a multitude of references to beloved texts from the late 70s and 80s:
Something Blue
Blues artist Janiva Magness
has been around for a while, but she has a new album out, Blue Again
Here's a track off her new album:
This lady is a bit of an inspiration to me. Both her parents committed suicide while she was still a child, and she was placed in foster care. What hell. But look at her now. Damn, lady!
I've gotta include just one more track. This is off an older album. Pure gold:
How are you guys doing today?

@lotlizard 3-D printed ovaries?
Wow. Why do we bother with anything organically derived at all.

@lotlizard Brilliant poem. Everybody
For an urban version, try this on for size:

outsourcing thinking
Hey yeah CStMS, it is a bit concerning when there is always an "app for that" in place of an actual thought process. Makes me wonder what fills the cranial cavity in the absence of thinking with these gadgeteers?
truth is considered foreign influence, world peace is a threat to national security

What a beautiful creature! and beautiful coral atoll, Aldabra!
Good morning, CSTMS, thanks for the OT & tunes.
Middle name "Verdun", eh? How many generations of military in that family I wonder.
Can't imagine how much stuff one needs to loan out in order to need an app to track it, but I'm not too much against apps and other software aids. If one has enough data intensive activities, paper based notes and journals are a fail for the terminally disorganized such as myself. Sadly, the ultimate perfect app for everything dies ages ago - Tornado Notes - a DOS app, I think, or early windoze. A free form database/filing cabinet/calender/notepad and anythng and everything else. There's still AWK, but no graphics unless you are highly skilled.

I can see the need
Nowadays, it's return it when you get around to it, and hopefully the lender will forget you have it. I'm thinking of having my son cough up a shoe when he borrows something, like they make 2nd graders do.
EL, I too lament the loss of some programs. I had a Delrina daily planner program for Win 3.#. It was unusable on 95 and up. I've not seen another calendar program as versatile or easy to use. More than 20 years later I wish I still had it.
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.

I'm guessing somebody showed up after the fact and made an offer to high-profile dissident voices like Colbert, but it's always possible he was a plant from the beginning, like Markos.

Late, schmate. Life takes precedence. Thanks for the OT and
for showing up at all, which I sometimes fail to do when life interferes sufficiently.
