The GOS hits Peak Stupid
Every once in a while I get an itch that wants to be scratched.
It's similar to driving by a car crash and craning your neck to see if there is any blood and gore. We all do it, even if it doesn't reflect well on us.
In this case "my itch" is to check out the wrec'd list of TOP to see what sort of horrible, mangled, car crash of a diary landed there.
I'm not proud of this urge.
Today I found a full-on, demolition derby of stupid on the GOS.
I'm talking such intense stupidity that it might cause one to shield of the eyes of innocent children, lest it corrupt their minds, haunt their dreams, and cause them to ask questions for which there are no answers.
For those of you with a sense of shame, please stop reading now. There is no redeeming value in what you might read from here on.
There are studies and surveys as to why the Dems lost in 2016, and why people think the Dems are out of touch.
Well, TOP has a whole different take on it!
Some wonder why two-thirds of the American people think Democrats are out of touch. The explanation is media coverage.
A good example occurred yesterday. Hillary Clinton made the point that many areas of rural America don’t have high-speed Internet and this could be a cause of slow growth in these areas. She went on to point out that some areas don’t even have cell phone coverage.
As Dave Weigel pointed out in the Washington Post the flood gates of criticism then opened, the gist of which is that she is an out-of-touch elitist. The fact is, her campaign had detailed policies for improving broadband coverage, an issue on which Trump, predictably, is clueless.
Clinton was anything but out-of-touch.
But the media narrative overwhelmed the truth.
Aaaahhh! My eyes! The stupid! It burns!
Amazingly, this is currently at the very top of the rec'd list.
Recall Hillary's take on why she won/lost the election yesterday.
Well, also sharing the rec'd list was this gem.
Hillary Clinton was not a Bad Product, Americans are Spoiled Consumers...America has become a country that seeks saccharine gratification in place of some bitter truths.
All through the presidential campaign, I heard the phrase, ‘I will hold my nose and swallow,’ when it came to voting for Hillary Clinton. Progressives, Republicans and those “tired of the establishment” are now choking on its own narcissistic consumerism. Like conscientious parents, we are now desperately searching for a dentist to extract the festering cavity in the country’s mouth. I love candy orange slices. They are chewy, gummy and coated in sugar; I would be better off eating a real orange but the peeling, spitting out seeds and the squirting juice is inconvenient. The comparison, of which one is better for you, is unquestioned.
...
I am just stupid or are the liberal purist and Republican lemmings finally going to say, you know Hillary may have left a bad taste in my mouth but the world would be in bigger and better hands.
I am left speechless by...uh, this...thing that washed up on the rec list. All rotten and bloated.
For those of you who read to the bottom of this essay - shame on you.

Shame on me is right!
It only confirmed that TOP is still full of a bunch of losers. I do appreciate your courage, however. I have been there two or three times in the last 15 months. I don't have intentions of going there again, so, thank you for your courage. You continue to validate my reasons for staying away.

You are braver than I
You are 100% right! The stupid. It burns!
I have not been back in just over a year. To me, there is no purpose to going there except for wanting to experience the extreme burn of stupidity!

So, the country failed Hillary
much like the Germans failed Hitler in 1945.
We don't deserve her genius.
Okaaaayy......
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
Well, Duh!
Of course! She was the in-touch dentist/orange that this country needed.
And we let her down!
And now we spoiled brats

Every single time anyone triesvto tell
me this mess is my fault first word out of my mouth is BULLSHIT! And then I tell them the many reasons why running someone who was more disliked and mistrusted than the orange lunatic was the dumbest fucking move since a few knucklegraggers carrying clubs and dressed in animal hides tried to elect a leader for the clan.

We keep thinking they have hit Peak Stupid
and they keep right on getting Stupider.
By the way, there's a teeny-tiny grain of fact in all the bloviation: "[T]he media narrative overwhelmed the truth". Except, it's not what they think it is. (It's very nearly the opposite.)
We KNOW whom "the media narrative" overwhelmed, and it wasn't Her Royal Haughtiness.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Technically it could get more stupid
but we are already near the point of pounding on the keyboard with their fists and throwing their own feces at passing tourists.
And yet we've called Repugnants
the dumb ones, at least I have. Willful, childish blindness it not just a feature of the RWNJ crowd...

There needs to be a song...
about people who post stupid defenses of the establishment on the internet...
Closest I can find is Ray Stevens...

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
one problem with the Ray Stevens song
The only quibble I have with that is that Mr. Stevens' boat-mate, at least, had alcohol to blame for the disasters of which he was part.
The Hillary defenders have no such defense, unless there's a yuuuuge quantity of bad LSD out there that I don't know about.

I'm sure...
there's a 12 step program for not being able to stop looking at 'the stupid'.
Lord knows I'm afflicted with the urge myself. To my credit, I looked at the titles of those diaries and #resiststupid figured out the general direction of the authors.
...and Yes...#resiststupid should be a thing.

no shame
I have no shame in arriving at the end of your Essay.
I consider it to be a "booster vaccination" maintaining my immunity to the very urge of which you complain.
I've been back to TOP a time or two in the 17 months since the issuance of the Ides of March Decree rendered me persona non grata over there. The results were the same as the ones for your Essay: the burn of Teh Stupid reinforced my desire to have nothing whatsoever to do with the place and its DLC mentors.
Thank you for sparing me another direct trip there, gjohnsit!

Candied oranges? Does that mean Hillary's the pits?
I'm so confused!
And, now I want a candied orange, too.
Aw, we just can't quit you.
Can't quit you, babe!

Loved the music, loved the idea of walking away
for a while rather than "quitting" someone, but this always made me very uncomfortable:
Said you messed up my happy home
Made me mistreat my only child
Not only does it speak to child abuse or neglect of some kind, but it shifts responsibility for it, much like any abuser does. And, since it sounds autobiographical on someone's part, as I said...uncomfortable. If I could listen to it without lyrics, I'd be happier.
Sorry to go serious on you when you were being light. Abuse is a big one for me.
Uh, Robert is talking about the same thing
Donny tiny hands was alluding to. Only in Robert's case, I'm thinking it's justified. Imho.
