What Next? The Dem-Party Refuses to Reform
.
I'm sure most everyone here has watched in amazement at the total and complete inflexibility of the Democratic Party, and their stubborn refusal to adapt or reform (even just superficially) after getting blown out of the water in the 2016 Elections all across the Country.
Rather than deal with the fact that The Democratic Party's clear lack of message, lack of any boldness, and lack of any vision whatsoever (including borrowing from FDR - whom they now largely disavow, i.e. repeal of Glass-Steagall, Catfood commission, etc.), has cost them Elections ... and rather than deal with the fact that their dogmatic obsession and ham-fisted commitment to small-ball, do-nothing, non-progressive, anti-worker, anti-Labor, GOP-like Corporatism, Wall-Street Cronyism, and scorched-earth Global Warfare State and Security-State, Surveillance-State Orwellian despotism, while trying to distinguish themselves with just phony, cynical "identity politics" and "political correctness" -- which have been totally self-destructive, and provides no true alternative for voters to the (corrupt) Establishment-GOP --- The Democratic Party would instead rather just stay the course, and continue to happily lose Election after Election (and continue to put their boots on the neck of even the slightest movement toward "Bernie Sanders" progressives) than ever change.
That's right. The Democratic Party would rather lose Elections (and is perfectly happy to do that) than ever reform or move in a progressive direction. Not only do they not want to reform (which is virtually a direct quote from Nancy Pelosi), but they have utter contempt for even the idea of reform. Instead, what is paramount above all else is -- not the losing of Elections, but keeping "The Left" out of their Party, and buried. That's always job number one, and that task always comes first and supersedes all others.

So where does the Political Left go from here? Well, if we listen now to Bernie Sanders (despite being continually thwarted at every turn by the Democratic Party), we just need to be expressing ourselves more, and ask that new (Establishment-Hack) DNC-Chair Tom Perez, or Nancy Pelosi, or Chuck Schumer, or 2020-HRC, etc. change their priorities .. and then our wishes will be granted. Ahhh...
Well guess what Bernie? They stopped you. They stopped your 13 million army of supporters. They'll stop us all again and again. They will always stop us. They want to stop us. And they will never change their priorities.
The proof of that is their very swift closing of the ranks to protect and entrench the totally failed Party leadership structure after getting creamed across the board in the 2016 Elections, and after seeing the size of their Party membership halved since 2008. Nobody who actually cared about winning, (must less what the people wanted, and were inspired by), would ever do that. And if they do not change now ..... just when then would they ever change?
They're not changing. Deal with it.
Bernie Sanders could do something constructive by forming an new alliance with Jill Stein and The Green Party, and growing the infrastructure of that Party "big league", and bringing with him 13 million voters. That would be something constructive to do.
But unfortunately, Bernie does not want to lose his sub-committee seat...or something... and therefore does not want to upset the apple cart any more by actually separating himself entirely from the Democratic Party.
On some level, Bernie must know that he is now just tilting at the windmills and making himself powerless by his own choosing.
But it does not have to be that way .....

Bernie isn't our future
Someone else must be it
@gjohnsit He would agree.
It must start with your local town committee.
They shut us off at the top because they can. They cannot close us
out on the bottom.
They talk a lot these days about job loss as 'disruption'. We need to make some low level disruption (and cause some job loss among calcified Dems).
That has been the heart of Bernie's message from the beginning.
Local politics is the most difficult because it is up close and personal. Trust me on this one, I know. Local is where each of us need to wage and win our individual battles to reclaim our once proud Democratic Party.
Once more with feeling:

But they are due...

Bernie will never be the leader of a progressive
Democratic Party. He wants to work within the existing system, much as he has his entire life. At best he can be cheerleader and policy wonk.
"I'm not big into being a leader."

With the recent selection of Tom Perez it will be same old, same old. They appear to be absolutely incapable of recognizing that it is their campaign platform itself that is at fault. The real problem is that the Obama/Clinton big money corporatists control a major portion of the DNC.

Any truly progressive leader to emerge will have a tougher time fighting the entrenched Democratic Party interests than he would against the Republican base.
Don't believe me? Just look at what the US government has done to any progressive leaders who arose in the global south in the last century and a half. Do you think they would allow a truely progressive leader and party within the walls? Not a chance. And they've already prepared for such a scenario - aptly called Homeland Security. The greatest and most powerful militarized force to protect the status quo within ANY nation in the world.
@CB
And Homeland Security has Top Secret control of all US election infrastructure, all of it. Apparently they can have private meetings with public and private interests, while keeping information away from a public unable to access 'National Security issues' in order to ever have independently overseen or verified electoral processes or results. Does anyone think that TPTB would ever allow any party outside of the Two-Faced Corporate Party Trade-Off to even have enough votes to qualify for debates?
I love Jimmy Dore, but he seems to have no idea of what Bernie and the rest of us are all facing...
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
The alternative?
But if you then claim by this that we have no choice except to pin our hopes on the corrupt and willfully anti-progressive corrupt Democratic Party -- then you are missing the bigger picture here.
In the age of Bernie Sanders' Internet-fueled, grassroots campaign, and Donald Trump's shakeup and new redefinition of the GOP (Trillion dollar domestic infrastructure Plan, No more "regime change" madness, Termination of the corrupt global Trade Deals to benefit local Job sustainability, etc.), ...... we are entering a new World here. This is a world where:
So embrace the change. It is just at its infancy.
It is in this new brave World, where 3rd Parties -- if they have a candidate with a strong, truth-telling message, and they are both charismatic and the people believe they're genuine will begin to get political traction ... particularly in contrast to the do nothing, say nothing, hypocritical and corrupt Democratic Party (which inspires no one).
I can tell you this...if there is no new 3rd Party movement, then Trump and the GOP will just dominate all levels of Government for at least 8 solid years, and maybe inescapably .. 16 years. The Democratic Party is now a vacuum. It's a wasteland. There is nothing there to believe in anymore.
So the reality is that we have no choice. There is just one National Party, and one decaying corpse.
Only a 3rd Party can create a new narrative against this landscape that could draw new and large numbers of people.
Bernie and his base could lead that effort, or he can chose to just tilt at the windmills inside a Party that absolutely detests him, and just wants him to sit down and shut up -- and has publicly declared that they will never change. What's the point?
So there is no valid choice left here ... other than to embrace the 3rd Party movements, and get behind them. If Bernie does not want to help with that effort, all he is doing is throwing away the formidable political power that he once had.
Trump is a guy wants to win.
Bernie is just thinking small here ... and he will never win -- if he never even really tries. Take your power and use it!
@FreeSociety
(Edit: Lol, I might want to pin a tail on that donkey, but never any hope!)
Are you seriously trusting this corrupted government, Homeland Security or the State Department not to cheat or protect electoral cheaters who have the blessing/orders of TPTB who are generally considered to be, if perhaps painfully, bringing Trump into line/ready to substitute Pence?
How can anyone ever even hope to know how accurate claimed results are if the processes and results are 'a matter of national security' and the idea of ever allowing independent observation and verification of processes and results considered interference with 'national security'?
The problem stems from the various corporate interests and billionaires pulling the strings of purchased public officials/parties, and until the puppet-masters have been contained, what hope can there be of free and fair elections?
Electoral fraud was already the norm in US elections; now that it's rigged so that there can be no surprises and the results whatever an unconstitutional spy agency staffed by political appointees may claim they are, what are the odds of a 3rd party being allowed to win over the billionaire/corporate party picks?
Granted, if Trump can, he might cheat via Homeland Security/State Department to a different effect than would the usual PTB, but I doubt he'd go for a social democratic-type party over, say, himself.
The big picture does need to be considered, because 'here there be dragons' and no electoral or other integrity. They couldn't even let Jill Stein keep enough votes to get anywhere close to funding or into debates, and I'll bet she got way more votes than were claimed.
Edit: certainly not saying not to do party building on a sustainable democratic platform, but I am saying that without free and fair elections, they will not have a chance of being declared winners of the greatest numbers of voters any more than Bernie had during the incredibly multi-rigged Dem Primaries.
And that would be why Bernie is doing whatever he has to do to maintain public awareness, via corporate media reaching non-internet people, of what democracy should be to counter that 'pragmatic' part of the propaganda and to try to take over the Dems with real people from the bottom up; because he can see no other route that likely avoids a great deal of bloodshed.
Also, I'd consider it doubtful that we long retain freedom of speech on the internet or even the internet itself, as it has been. Maybe even wind up with just a limited commercialized version mostly consisting of Facebook and propagandists - harmful and useless, in other words. Apparently, if I recall correctly, Zuckerman is already working on a limited internet version rather similar to this for some impoverished areas currently lacking internet.
Edited to add a couple of commas and to add, in case of any doubt, that there was (obviously) no mention of propagandists being involved in what I read of that limited Facebook internet mentioned above. But they're already all over the net as it is, as you know, and censorship already begins...

@Ellen North Well I agree that
But remember one thing. 50%-60% of the Country won't even try to vote right now. They're never inspired but what they see.
The D-Party will never capture them. But if Bernie (recognized as a "genuine" candidate) were to leave the D-Party, and pull his 13 million voting block into a new direction -- it could be a watershed event. Enough to attract people from the vast pool of non-voters. If that happened, the numbers would be so overwhelming that the Corporate Party would be blown away, and couldn't easily rig the system anymore -- given power now of the Internet.
Of course, they can and might shut down the Internet for many people. But if that happens then nothing Bernie or anyone else can do is going to matter anymore ... we'll all just be slaves inside the Global Bankster Cartel Empire.
