Open Thread - Friday, February 24, 2017- Funk the World
Submitted by NCTim on Fri, 02/24/2017 - 3:20am
Music can be useful during training to help get you psyched, and I still listen to music on easy climbs or in the gym. But during cutting-edge solos or really hard climbs, I unplug. There shouldn't be a need for extra motivation on big days, be it music or anything else. It should come from within.
~ Alex Honnold ~
Plugged or unplugged? I followed GG's lead and started walking an hour, or more everyday. Sometimes a morning and an evening walk. I plug into the music machine, but mostly have been ignoring the Internet tubes. Music helps set the pace. No Internet helps the outlook. Just funkin' sayin'.
The sorry state of governance and greed driven management of society is maddening, snd the constant negative cacophony of our media is discouraging. So funk them.
Hopefully, a little battery recharge will facilitate plugging into a do something activity. I would rather do something than sit around complaining.
That's what I think.
Have a great weekend! The thread is OPEN.

yes, but just take it with patience, I guess your probate case
might be an easy one. One can not say that of all probate cases ... I learned that unexpectedly and quite well. It will all work out, at least I hope. Best of luck.

another beautiful day...
here in NE Alabama. I try to walk a mile or two everyday, but I'm not as dedicated as GG with her 6 mile power walks. Although these days of 70 degrees in Feb as sure nice, I'm concerned about the price we will pay later. We are already behind in rainfall for 2017 here (after going into the year 20 something inches behind).
So on we go. We will face whatever comes.
There is much resistance. Have you seen this calendar of events? It's pretty impressive.

gg is a great influence....
Last November I bought a treadmill, and I walk 5 miles every other day. That's about 1.5 hours at my speed. I watch Netflix on my Kindle Fire while I walk. Hardly notice the time. I also cut carbs, sugar, and started counting calories. I've lost 12 lbs. Feels great. Goal is 30.
Glad you are exercising and enjoying your music. Both great ways to fill up time.

Congrats and kudos!
Twelve points is a lot to lose naturally, esp. for someone over 40. And, I was told that 11 pounds makes a big difference in health. Don't know if it's true, but I hope it works for you.

Been sick as a dog for months...
On Monday finally let one of the girlfriends take me to the hospital...
Yeah, Steroids, Antibiotics, and antihistamines... for a SEVERE ear infection. I am really really bad at going to the doctor.
Usually because I am always thinking that somebody probably has it worse than me, and I shouldn't use the resource until I absolutely HAVE to. The last times I saw a doctor were for Gout and A Kidney Stone. I'm sure it's a military thing, on some level, but I just don't want to be told I'm faking it, or I'm whining.
I sometimes wonder how those assholes who have to be first in everything sleep. Do they just not care about anything outside themselves? Patience is seen as weakness nowadays and it bothers me immensely. Still don't own a smart phone, and am resisting it as hard as I can. Difficult when both my significant others use them, but I still prefer the mental map.
That got random, so here's some music for those who are dealing with the world's reality today.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Please take better care of yourself.
I hate going to the doctor, too. Let's both work on it. Something ignored or postponed may be something that needed attention early.
I have entire effin weekend to set some version of Ms Liberty

I hope you feel better, maybe someI agree with the must win crowd. The same folks that see everything as black and white.

GG is absolutely right about walking. It's been
a lifelong favorite past time/exercise for me. I meditate when I walk and relax. Also do daily pull ups with light weights. It helps with old lady bone density/avoiding osteoporosis. Rec'd, my soul (fine) friend!!

Funking A Tim.
Ya, I try to walk every day, been doing that for a long time now. Gets to the point where you don't feel right if you don't do it. Took me a long time to warm up to walking because I was always a runner. I figured walking wouldn't do that much good, but it does.
I see Trump is deciding (the Decider) whether to put troops in Syria. International war crime, the U.S. has zero authority to put troops in Syria, even though "we" already have. It's amazing to me how matter of factly the media talks about it without even bringing up that fact. And Trump says the media is out to get him, it doesn't appear so when it comes to that. They're giving him the same cover they gave Obama. A whole lot of cloak and dagger going on. I'm going to try to write something up on it today.

Good morning, Tim~~~
Happy to hear you are walking. I walk quite a bit at work, myself. I park a mile away, so there's two miles just going back and forth to my car. I work on the fourth floor, so I take the stairs. I work on a large campus, so anytime there are errands to run, I'm happy to do it. I have a pedometer on my phone and log anywhere from 6,000-9,000 steps a day. Can't seem to reach that 10,000-step mark. Maybe after I no longer work!
Civil war is coming. Get ready everyone. We are ready to dig a bunker. Anyone interested in helping, let me know. You can come and bring a shovel. I have 21 acres (17 acres are free and clear) and we plan on burying two containers - one to live in and one to grow in. We'll see what happens.
Stop laughing. You all are supposed to be my friends.
Have a beautiful day, folks and a lovely weekend (if you are able)

Broken foot, probable Lisfranc ligament tear. No walkin' here.
Just limpin' and need to bite off my foot pain. Time spent better horizontally, but only so much is acceptable to body. New mattress in a box at foot of my bed. 77lb of maybe better to no longer sleep in a conjugal bed? I thought it might be nice, and then broke the foot. Amazing what one's lack of view can do. 60F here in Feb. Geese high-flying would
like to follow them with my little dog, too.

Anyone know the answer to this for certain?
(no guessing, please)
I know that the POTUS is the head of his or her political Party (the Party itself, not the RNC or the DNC)
Does that end when another person from the same political party is the POTUS or when the another person from the same political Party becomes the Presidential nominee? IOW, today, is the head of the Democratic Party Barack or Hillary.
Again, no guessing, please.
P.S. Hi, Tim
Just an opinion...

As of this summer, I'm an indie. :-)

Good afternoon, Tim
I used to be a runner, many years ago and then age caught up with my feet. I ran to compete so when I could not do it any more, I became a couch potato. Twenty pounds later (I needed ten of them), I decided that I needed to get back in motion for my physical health. In addition, I have found walking in the morning is starts my day off right and is great for my mental health too. Tim, I hope you will find those benefits too. It is a great way to decompress.
Early last summer I decided to get really serious and bought a fitness watch. My husband says I am a slave to it, but it keeps me honest. In addition, in August I began walking with a neighbor. It has worked out great for both of us and as a result, we are going longer and longer, up to six miles. We keep our conversations mostly light and have become very close friends too.
The next three weeks I am going to be out of town and it is going to be much more difficult going alone. My goal is to maintain at least 3.5 miles every day, whereas I normally do 4.5 to 6 miles when walking with my friend.
Yesterday was not a good day at the grocery store. When I came out, I found my car had been hit by five grocery carts that had broken loose from the cart caddy. Apparently someone did not put the last cart all the way in and it pulled four other carts with it. They rolled down a slight slope and hit my car leaving a big scrape all along one side. The car is over ten years old, but until yesterday it was undented. The assistant manager came out and filled out an incident report, but I am not hopeful of anything since it was not the store's fault since the cart caddy was properly maintained and almost empty. In the big scheme of things, it is just very small stuff.

Hey Tim, walking is good
I've been walking 3 times a day for 10 years because of Max, the Yorkie X. I got him from a shelter where he was sent. He was born in a breeding kennel but had a few things wrong, like extra teeth and extra long legs so he was rejected from the high-class Yorkie X's group. He went to a foster home and they were anxious to get rid of him because he was rough on their 2 chihuahuas. That was when I lived in a house and could just open the back door to let him run in the yard. After I moved to downtown the 3 walks a day started. I cheat a lot, sometimes skipping one walk and sometimes getting other people to walk him for me. But it's been pretty steady, no matter the weather, snow, wind storms, heavy rain, he just has to go out.
Hope the fates are treating you well.
To thine own self be true.
Sounds like my Yorkie grandson. Mr Business.

I can just see you sashaying down the road with Maurice Simon plugged into your ears.
How about another Simon to take you down the road ...
