Democratic Party still can't buy a clue

The Dems seem to be under the impression that the public is captured in a binary world.

They may be the minority party, but House Democrats are feeling energized these days – and for good reason. They point to the grassroots protests, marches and town-hall disruptions of recent weeks as a sign that President Trump has already sparked involvement by their base at historic levels.

But what is 'their base'?

Turning anger into political success will require Democrats to figure out how to parlay the passions of the anti-Trump left-wing base without turning off swing voters, including some of the working-class Democrats who abandoned Hillary Clinton last November.
With the developments of the last month, said Fred Yang, a top Democratic pollster, "We have lots of opportunities." He added: "There has been an organic outpouring. The challenge now is to sustain it and channel it into voting." He sees parallels to the Tea Party activists and Republicans in the years before 2016.

Yes, I'm sure the Dems would like to co-opt a grassroots movement and betray it by emboldening the political establishment like the GOP did with the Tea Party.
However, the Dems may not get that opportunity.

Gallup shows that since the election, a remarkable 14 million Democrats have become independents. So many people have left the Democratic Party that Republicans now outnumber Democrats in a progressive country.

Selection_006.png

It isn't just Gallup. Look at what has happened to the Democratic Party Favorable Rating in just a few months.
It's the opposite of how you win elections.

@gjohnsit I haven't followed DKos through the election cycles. Seems there was a big drop off after the 2016 Presidential election. I would imagine that this would be similar for 12 and 08 right? That you have a bunch of people hyped for an election, and then the election is over so people go on with their day to day stuff?

Course, on the flip side, with Trump in office, think perhaps people may be looking online for outlets to vent and read on.

Just a counter point I guess to think about.

Plus a key demographic fell off the chart after the election...
All those $30/mo Correct The Record spammers left with their hate filled vitriol copy and paste replies towards the progressives, that caused the progressives to leave the democRATic Party in swarms to join the Independents and Greens, either staying home on election day or voting for Jill Stein...

If only those Correct The Record spammers could vote...
If only the republicans would have voted for Hillary...
If only those who #DemExit'd would come back... Not A Chance!

The power base of the Dems is determined to lead the way over the cliffs singing The Song of the Lemming.

It is truly interesting that so many Dems have gone independent. Are bridge partners Pelosi and Schumer completely oblivious to these polls? Polls are polls but nonetheless they should be looked into when they are reflecting this kind of devastating information.

No amount of letter writing can ever convince these people and why should it? Catastrophic election losses can't even wake them up to smell the coffee. Must be nice to never have to worry about your livelihood so that consequences of your actions or inactions leave you unaffected.

Nice read, gjohnsit.

Edit: but now they know better and Homeland Security has seized and will utterly control and run elections in the same manner that Hillary ran her private server - entirely to profit self-interest by serving self-interests at everyone else's expense.

no real choice out of the austarian straight jacket, many voters decided to say effyouseall and vote for Trump. It was similar to the Brexit vote. The common thread is that people are hurting - financially, emotionally, and physically - because of the global neoliberal prescription of "We take from the poor and those just managing to eke by" and give it to the 10% who control the world's political economy. When there is no real alternative, many take the option available. Others, they just sat the charade out.

The loss of those who identify as Democrats is understated because many can't be bothered to go to the office to reregister as an Independent, or Green, or Libertarian, or SEP. Why bother? The exit from the former party of FDR is stark.

They just can't pretend that the fiasco of the primaries didn't happen. They treated the most passionate of their base with contempt, cheating them of their votes, smearing millions of them with ugly stereotypes, totally tipping the scales for the chosen candidate that the passionate couldn't stomach. And then, when Putin leaked those emails proving the corruption and rigging of the primary process, what happens? There is no apology. There is no admittance of wrong doing, to speak of. DWS is "fired" but then she becomes a big part of Hillary's campaign. How insulting is that? And we'll all remember the other betrayals for the rest of our lives. And now the Democratic establishment is trying to pretend that never happened. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Totally agree, apart from pointing out that Putin didn't leak the emails; a concerned and patriotic insider did.

The 'Roosha did it!' official propaganda is supposed to be a valid excuse for nuking Russia (and China and Iran and a few other people's countries I can't recall eight now) and for the unconstitutional Homeland (In)Security grab of everything election-related so that any future selections can be set up at leisure without anyone ever being able to oversee/witness/verify anything regarding either the process or the results. (If the Clintons have their way, those selection results will no doubt be announced before the next Dem primaries even begin - as they pretty much were last time.)

Almost nothing of what is bombarded onto us through the various mass media devices can be called trustworthy anymore. Rumor and conjecture are everywhere, along with the truth and conspiracy theories. The truth doesn't stick out anymore. I just picked the Putin story out of a hat of all the different stories in the media, not considering it to be any kind of validated truth. I don't hear corporate media talking about a patriot leaking the DNC stuff, so that's probably what happened.

ELECTION 2016
WikiLeaks suggests murdered DNC staffer was source for leak
Assange gets involved in growing Clinton 'body count'
Published: 08/09/2016

Bob Unruh

... WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appeared to suggest Tuesday that recently murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich, a 27-year-old Democratic National Committee staffer who was shot near his townhouse in Washington, D.C. last month, was the source of the WikiLeaks-exposed DNC emails.

Assange hinted at the newest revelations during an interview on the Dutch television program Nieuwsuur.

“Our whistleblowers go to significant efforts to give us material, at often very significant risks,” Assange said. “There was a 27 year old, works for the DNC, who was shot in the back, murdered just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons other than that he was walking down the street in Washington.” ...

... The interviewer asked, “What are you suggesting?”

“I’m suggesting that our sources take risks and they become concerned to see things occurring like that,” Assange continued.

“But was he one of your sources then?” asked the interviewer.

“We don’t comment on who our sources are,” Assange said. “We have to understand how high the stakes are in the United States. Our sources are, you know, our sources face serious risks. That’s why they come to us, so we can protect their anonymity.”

Assange continued, “Others have suggested that [Rich was murdered]. We are investigating. If you understand what happened in that situation with Seth Rich, I think it is a concerning situation. There’s not a conclusion yet. We wouldn’t be willing to state a conclusion, but we are concerned about it. More importantly, a variety of WikiLeaks sources are concerned when that kind of thing happens.”

WikiLeaks is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Rich’s killer.

Former UK ambassador: I’ve met DNC Wikileaks leaker, and it’s an insider, not a Russian
By Joe Newby -
December 12, 2016

On Saturday, the UK Guardian quoted Craig Murray, a former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan and a close associate of Julian Assange, who said in no uncertain terms that he has met the Wikileaks leaker, whom he described as an insider and not a Russian.

According to the Guardian:

The Kremlin has rejected the hacking accusations, while the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has previously said the DNC leaks were not linked to Russia. A second senior official cited by the Washington Post conceded that intelligence agencies did not have specific proof that the Kremlin was “directing” the hackers, who were said to be one step removed from the Russian government.

Craig Murray, the former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan, who is a close associate of Assange, called the CIA claims “bullshit”, adding: “They are absolutely making it up.”

“I know who leaked them,” Murray said. “I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider. It’s a leak, not a hack; the two are different things. ...

... Meanwhile, Sen. Claire McKaskill , D-Mo., among others, seem to be pushing war with Russia over Trump’s election.

“This should be not only about protecting us going forward, but this is a form of warfare for Vladimir Putin — who is a thug and a bully and has the friends around the globe that we don’t want to be friends with. For him to be trying to impact our elections, we have to — there has to — he has to be held accountable,” she said Sunday.

...“The worst thing about all this is that it is aimed at promoting further conflict with Russia,” Murray said. “This puts everyone in danger for the sake of more profits for the arms and security industries – including of course bigger budgets for the CIA. As thankfully the four year agony of Aleppo comes swiftly to a close today, the Saudi and US armed and trained ISIS forces counter by moving to retake Palmyra. This game kills people, on a massive scale, and goes on and on.”

There's a lot more from the other end, where the Russia story was postulated on no evidence by the Clinton, etc.-linked.

Indict Clinton For the Russian DNC and RNC Hack
By
George Eliason

Indict Clinton For the Russian DNC Hack
(RINF) - As if neo-liberal sensibilities weren't hurt enough, it's time to get to the bottom of the Russian hacks. The problem is no matter what direction you investigate the hacks from, it always goes back to the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC. They are the responsible parties for the hacks that were done.

Based on real evidence, the Clinton campaign and the DNC are never more than one connection away from the Ukrainian Intelligence operatives that claim their hack changed the course of world politics during the past months. How many hacks claim that laurel in 2016?

This raises questions like why is the Clinton campaign working with a foreign government to change the course of the election? This assessment comes from the Clinton campaign and their hired hands as being the real result that the DNC hack caused. It's just that they didn't count on the possibility of going to trial for it themselves.

If the Clinton campaign and the DNC are shown clearly to be working with a foreign country to influence the outcome of the election, should the country be sanctioned? By the end of this, the case is made that Ukraine should undergo every sanction that has been proposed for Russia. This is because their Intel services are clearly capable of and responsible for the hacking that Obama has laid at the feet of the Russian government. The hackers in question from the group KievHunta, RUH8 (Sean Townsend) should be investigated and extradited. ...

... The reason for the fourth question is that there is no longer any doubt that Crowdstrike fabricated the evidence it gave to the FBI and ODNI (Office of the Director of National Intelligence). The claim for attributing the cyber attack to Russia by Crowdstrike was based on the same hacker using the same tools to target Ukrainian artillerymen. These tools are supposed to be unique to this single hacking group. This is what makes the DNC hack and the Ukrainian artillery hack inseparable. Without one of them, the other didn't happen.

That's why Crowdstrike blamed Russia for the DNC hack because Crowdstrike said Russia did the same thing to Ukrainian artillerymen using the same custom tools. Unless you are Dimitri Alperovitch, there just aren't many people that buy this lie anymore. ...

... Crowdstrike was working for the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign. The DNC was less than friendly when the FBI wanted to investigate their "hacks." I wonder why? Another curious point is made by Marcy Wheeler @emptywheel about the timing of Alperovitch's proof. It came less than 2 weeks after Obama opened a review on intelligence about the DNC hack. Wheeler is worth the read.

The other major source that the DNI rested on to show Russian intent was the Atlantic Council. According to journalist Robert Parry, the Atlantic Council would have taken senior positions in a Clinton White House. Dimitri Alperovitch is a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council.

What's important about this is simple. If Crowdstrike faked the one piece of evidence that they said definitely shows this was a Russian hack, the Russians did not hack the DNC either. There was no Russian hack. There was a hack, we'll get to that shortly. First, pay attention to the credentials of Kenneth Geers. ...

Hillary’s Russia Vendetta – Hack Job?

Hillary’s Russia Vendetta – Hack Job?

So why would Crowdstrike blame Russia?

1) Warburg Pincus. Tim Geithner, is president of Warburg Pincus, former Secretary of Treasury under Obama, and formerly worked in the Clinton administration … Uh-oh. Warburg Pincus was a contributor to the DNC and Clinton campaign.

2) Accel Partners is also a CrowdStrike funder ($30m). [Accel Partner Sameer Gandhi donated $33400 to Hillary Victory Fund in 2016]

3) And the last funder of CrowdStrike is Google Capital ($100m in 2015), now CapitalG, managed under David Drummond of Google who was instrumental in ‘realigning’ Google search engines to favor Hillary’s campaign.

Former FBI executive Shawn Henry joined CrowdStrike, a pioneer in cyber security …

More info from my findings …

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and Accel partner Sonali De Rycker have both joined the board of IAC/InterActiveCorp, the company announced in an SEC filing [Eff. Sept. 22, 2011]. The two will join IAC’s 14-member board which includes IAC chief Barry Diller and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner.

According to the Clinton Foundation website, Accel is a venture capitalist partner in the Endeavor Investor Network [Board members that include eBay founder Pierre Omidyar of Ukrainian Maidan infamy].

Crowdstrike funders connected to Hillary
Hillary’s Russia Vendetta – Hack Job?
Posted on December 30, 2016

In 2014, Soros gave an interview in which he said imposing sanctions on Russia was futile and a better alternative was to give Ukraine money, LOTS of money.

In 2015, Soros gave another interview in which he said that sanctioning Russia was a ‘necessary evil’.

In 2016, the White House proxies, Hillary and Soros, gave the order for Obama to sanction Russia to an extreme, based on evidence that is described as ‘belief’… and rooted in vengeance. ...

...Dmitri Alperovitch, a co-founder of Crowdstrike, is the only one to actually state he has evidence that the DNC hack originated in Russian intelligence. Interestingly, he was formerly the VP at McAfee. In a recent interview with Larry King, John McAfee staters that the sophistication of hacking has evolved to the point that trails are impossible to follow and that anyone skillful enough to hack the DNC would be skillful enough to hide their tracks.

“If I was the Chinese and I wanted to make it look like the Russians did it, I would use Russian language within the code, I would use Russian techniques of breaking into the organization,” McAfee said, adding that, in the end, “there simply is no way to assign a source for any attack.”

So why would Crowdstrike blame Russia?

It should be noted that Crowdstrike ihad three funders: 1) Warburg Pincus. Tim Geithner, is president of Warburg Pincus, former Secretary of Treasury under Obama, and formerly worked in the Clinton administration… Uh-oh. Warburg Pincus was a contributor to the DNC and Clinton campaign. 2) Accel Partners is also a Crowdstrike funder. According to the Clinton Foundation website, Accel is a venture capitalist partner in the Endeavor Investor Network created by the Foundation. Uh-oh. 3) And the last funder of Crowdstrike is Google Capital, now CapitalG, managed under David Drummond of Google who was instrumental in ‘realigning’ Google search engines to favor Hillary’s campaign. Big uh-oh!

So what we actually have is the authority of one company, Crowdstrike, which derived all of its funding from venture capitalists linked to Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation. Funny, they didn’t hide their tracks very well for a high powered security breach company. ...

It's a tangled mess woven to profitably deceive, so about what you'd expect from the Clintons, their funders, TPTB.

But all indications seem to point at the usual suspects continuing their their same old destructive tricks.

@Ellen North I will add a couple of things. To make explicit something that was hinted at in one of your quotes, the DNC did not allow the FBI to examine their servers. Instead they had to rely on information from (you guessed it) Crowdstrike. Nothing the FBI says about the DNC "hacking" is in any way credible. The Podesta emails hack are a different story. They were probably taken with a very amateurish spear fishing expedition involving an email that was so obviously suspicious that no one except Podesta and his IT people fell for it. (My recollection is that it was sent to at least 1000 others.) My personal guess is that this was a standard profit making spearfishing expedition of the type that are launched by crooks all the time and that the emails were probably sold to more than one entity (but that is purely a guess). The spearfishing instrument used old, publicly available code. I doubt it had anything to do with the government of Russia. More generally, I believe that the demonization of Russia has to do with the need for the MISCC to have a technologically sophisticated enemy to insure continued ridiculous levels of spending. Remember, the US has been provoking Russia for some time. A Victoria Nuland phone call, for example, was intercepted, in which she was discussing who we were going to replace Yanukovych with, and, of course, we partnered with Nazis and other white supremacists to overthrow Yanukovych.

Jimmy, if you don't know is a reformed Democrat, meaning someone who has abstained from toxic participation in the DemonRATic Party (DP), yet still retains a fervent interested in it, perhaps because there may be a tiny residual value in it. (My magnifying glass, Watson, I think some clues may be here). The two Jimmy Dore videos I cite show different aspects of the present miserable yet minutely hopeful scenario for DP to rescucitate itself. There of course will be an ongoing crescendo of the current screaming by the HillBot faction (i.e., establishment) to her monumental loss. But that's not an issue--or shouldn't be, as far as she is concerned, hopefully, as I hope she disappears into the mist like a bad dream before she can do more elective harm.

The first video concerns an angry town hall in Providence, RI featuring Sheldon Whitehouse, another spineless DemoRAT. The people are angry. Angry at the Republicans vis a vis the hostile reception to Jason Chaffetz he just received in UT from his own constituents. Other members of the Red Menace have also received some pretty nasty encounters with some of their constituents. But Whitehouse, a particularly spineless donkey, was forced to take his townhall meeting outdoors because the rally significantly overflowed the auditorium. See for yourself the affection his constituents greeted him.

Why was this aspondylotic jerk given such a rousing reception? Because he was unable to justify his endorsements of several Trump appointments such as "Killer Mike" Pompeo, Mattis, Flynn (now departed the scene), Chao. Only after significant goading, he reluctantly told the crowd what Trump appointees he would not support. Sheldon, people are pissed; they are pissed not just at Orangutang, but also "your" party. They are fucking fed up. Maybe you'll get a clue before you're voted out of office.

The second video concerns Jimmy's interview of gutsy, straight-talking Sam Ronan, a true progressive-sounding veteran from Ohio. He is the only DNC chair candidate with the courage to tell the DNC electors that the scales were tipped against any candidate except for HRC from the get-go. Keith Ellison is a sham. Why else would Chuck E. Schumer endorse him?

Although I wish Sam and the JusticeDemocrats et. al. well--I think the effort is futile. Though we are governed by a pseudo-two-party system, by 2020 there will only be one major party and it won't be the DP.

There’s a myth Democrats cling to....the "swing" voter, and their conflation of this myth with "independent" voters. Here's the reality that Republicans have exploited successfully for decades, and Democrats just can't see.

To "swing" would mean sometimes voting Republican and sometimes voting Democrat, which is a rarity, and more so in this polarized time. Independents as a group disdain Party politics, as they should, and that's why they're growing in numbers. But Independents come in 2 deeply-polarized subgroups, left independent and right independent, actually mostly far-left and far-right, making crossovers extremely rare. Independents don't "swing" from one side to the other, they vote or stay home, while virtually always remaining within their particular left or right faction.

If you just look at poll or vote numbers with all Independents grouped together, there's a perception of a swing, an illusion of people bunched together and shuffling side-to-side as if in a scrum. But numbers rely on being placed correctly within the right formula to accurately discern the correct conclusion.

In reality, Independents consist of two vastly-differing, widely-isolated groups, each standing up or sitting down in response to how well they're being motivated to stand up. Motivate the group that reflects your political ambitions with an unequivocal far-right or far-left message, they stand up, applauding, and you win. Treat both groups like they're irresolute middle-of-the-roaders who only like hearing compromise and appeasement, and watch them glaze over and sit it out. This, and losing, is Democratic Party SOP.

Lol, that explains the swing voters so often spoken of - I don't think I've thought of anyone being stupid enough to think that these occasional voters would all be the exact same people switching corporate parties in an often rabidly divided Two-Party Trade-Off society suffering an avalanche of daily hate/fear/anti-whatever media propaganda, especially within that vast pool of Americans either Indie or typically abstaining from voting at all, at least in part since their permitted electoral choices always seem to wind up being against their interests.

That was silly of me, since we know that they're stupid enough to always figure that a different lie 'better message' painted over their lumpy, obviously leprous and clearly unchangeable spots will fool the victims every time after time after time...

On the other hand, so many of their Big Lies are eventually still accepted if repeated often enough - and there's a challenge for the internet forces supporting a more factual, real reality... what a mess the Parasite Class splatter from their wallows!

So several posters have asked, what happens to the Trump resistance come the elections. Many establishment democrats seem to think the hatred of Trump will be so bad, the democrats will sweep into majorities in House and Senate. Some establishment types see the potential for the anti-Trump movement to get out of party control--to get radicalized as Adam Schiff put it (like supporting $15/hr min wage). And who knows where it will all go electorally given these insane numbers. The democratic establishment is replaying the election using the same themes that lost the election for it. Is the center piece of their attack on Trump--the Great Russian Conspiracy be enough to motivate the base which did not show up in 2016? It will be interesting how the corporate controlled neoliberal leadership of the party go about co-opting the anti-Trump without alienating people who are mostly liberal and leftist.

When did the corporate Dems ever stop '...alienating people who are mostly liberal and leftist ...' by their very existence within The People's meant-to-be-democratic government?

A good chunk of America called and they want their concept of democracy back and actualized for a change; they were told that the only pragmatic solution was the final solution for both democracy and life on the planet but well worth it for the world-draining profits to be made by the Parasite Class in the final decade(s) which are all that are likely remaining to the global life support system as a result. Maybe I am losing it, or my (once again doomed) daily treadmill job has fried my brain too much, but -- for the life of me -- I can't find a Gallup poll stating a 14 million member loss in the "Democratic" Party.

The linked Inquisitr article apparently only quotes the Draft Bernie for a People’s Party web site, and neither page links to a source for this information.

My searches on gallup.com came up empty, and the pic shown in gjohnsit's post seems to be taken from the Party Affiliation poll which merely asks, "In politics, as of today, do you consider yourself a Republican, a Democrat or an independent?" (which isn't exactly addressing actual membership)

So, does someone have a a source confirming a recent 14 million member loss?

I think it might. The most corporate and visible of the Democrats could be pressured by massive DemExiting.

How far would that number need to go down to get change?

“Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” ~ Sun Tzu

Remember the famous Bernie Sanders campaign lines:

"The same old .. same old is not good enough anymore", and "We need a political revolution in this Country".

Supporting Hillary Clinton was never a means to that end.

Trying to "reform" the Democratic Party, in theory, could be....if.... people like Bernie had first tried to start a movement to oust Nancy Pelosi (who has reduced the Democratic Base down to half its original size), and Chuck Schumer. But the Old Guard elitists cannot be reformed, and even admit in public that they don't want to be reformed, and won't be reformed.

So it is time to see The Democratic Party for what it really is....a political wasteland -- unless there is a true overhaul of the entire Democratic Party leadership, along with a public repudiation of Obama's 8-year policy record (of crony Big Pharma-Insurance Corporatism, massive violent Global Warfare, protection of Wall Street criminality, Grand "Austerity" Bargains, and Police State expansion).

This is, of course, unlikely to happen and even people like Bernie Sanders have no real power over their well-protected insider status and Cartel-funded entitlement.

It is time therefore for Sanders and other true progressives to stop being a walking contradiction.

Being an "Independent" who yet remains a devotee of the corrupt Democratic Party -- ain't gonna cut it anymore. Being a "Revolutionary" who is willing to trust the Clintons (after their awful history) --- just ain't gonna cut it.

Progressives must face a moment of truth here....and either build something new and dynamic, or just content ourselves to merely play the Violin on the deck of the sinking Titanic ... to no avail.

It is time to recognize that the D-Party long ago sold the bold policy visions of FDR-Kennedy down the river (borrowing only some superficial 'theatrics' to deceive people).

It's time to leave this sinking ship behind, and build something new and bold. We will never get blood out of this stone.
