Taking 'leaks on New Years Day

Been a little down over the last few weeks or so, thought it might be time to take stock and count blessings...

So much to be thankful for this New Year! Still breathing and, whoa, still married.... last week it was 46 years! We both have survived critical illnesses and really want to see SS, Medicare, or Medicaid get improved. Will work for that!

We have been enjoying watching some British series streaming on Hulu, and even though we have met quite a few brits in our travels still like to run the closed caption to follow along.

One thing really get a kick out of is when they say is 'You're taking the piss on us' . Heh. Feal like all this rush to get people skeered of 'Russia' etc is that for sure.

Looking Back, Looking Forward

Thankful for Wikileaks for not 'taking the piss' but sharing the leaks, especially the revelations of the machinations of the DLC and revelations of those speeches to the banksters! Truthout!

So much has happened to look back on over the last ten years, when we finally saw the public get an earful of something besides what the Corporate Media, the Duopoly , and the Oligarchy was pushing... OWS, #BlackLivesMatter, #NoDapl ... you can probably think of others.

And yeah, we often seem to going backward instead of forward. Really.

Just not ready to live every day in deep depression, so will have to ignore some things and focus on the good in order to stay sane and active.

Lots accomplished, lots more to look forward to accomplishing....

Here's to making waves, making this a great year together. Happy New Year caucus99percent !

They and the companies that own them rely heavily on Medicaid revenues, so I think that they will fight against destroying it.
They are blood sucking parasites, but beggars can't be choosers during war times.

who have no problem with hurting people for financial gain.
Sam Johnson is 80 f'cking years old so why the hell is he still in congress and finding ways to hurt people!
I think that there should be term limits of no more than 4 terms then they are out. Look at how many have spent decades in congress.
And it's not that the money spent on social programs are coming out of their bloated pockets. They have spent decades living off of our taxes, yet don't see the irony of taking away people's safety networks. Especially since so many of them got rich off of insider trading that is illegal for the rest of us.
And Ryan knows how people rely on those programs because he benefitted from them when he was younger. Now that is hypocrisy, isn't it?

Pence is right. I expect the change to be an elimination of Medicaid.
It won't take much. Maybe means testing. Or re-filing your application every few months.
Just a bit of tweaking, like forcing the poor to efile their apps when they have no computer, or can't see, or can't read, and the blame will be shifted onto them.
Like I say, it won't take much.

Think Repubs and Dems have been strangling funding for SS offices where people could get assistance would not put it past them to pass this in name of modernization and of course outsource it to contractors.

What I have mainly been reading is they will go for block grant scam

Watched a youtube of a rally at the capitol early last month and a young doc was warning about block grants and how they would be subject to use for other things than what medicaid has been paying for, that so many people in poverty depend on Medicaid for births and senior nursing facility care it would be tragic to see the abuse under block grants.

and I'm sorry but I'll harp on this one yet again - until people really realize just who benefits from Medicaid programs I see this happening. SO MANY are convinced, in their greed, selfishness and stupidity, that it's "only" the brown people and single mothers getting Medicaid that I see many in this country thinking this is a good thing. Just wait until their own parents or grandparents are kicked out of Skilled Nursing due to this and watch the screaming about how "unfair" that is when they themselves either fork over the money to pay for that or take their elders home and try to deal.

My own fucking stepmother, and yes she's an ignorant Bagger, thinks this should be cut now that my dad and her sister used and benefitted from it. She refuses to see the truth of what Medicaid dollars are spent on even though she herself benefitted from that! These idiots have been thinking this way for the last 40 fucking years. How in hell we get traction with them I no longer know.

And as for supposed "Democrats" they'll go along with this under the guise of "well, we just can't afford that" and move along their merry stupid way. Perhaps many of them have the money to put a parent into Skilled Nursing but wait til they get a load of the bills, and it will be too Godamned late by the time they pull that head out of that ass and realize just what they have done.

Cutting Medicaid Would Hurt States and Families

By: Dee Mahan

When members of Congress threaten to cut Medicaid, who is at risk? If Medicaid is cut, seniors, people with disabilities, children, and working families would suffer.

This fact sheet explains that Medicaid is an efficient, flexible program that works well for states and the people it serves.

Arguments against cuts to Medicaid:

Medicaid is already a flexible program that gives states the option to use private health plans.
Medicaid is an efficient program with almost no administrative “fat.”
There’s no room for cuts to provider payments.
States can’t make up for cuts in federal payments.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

We found out the hard way that even the "best" nursing homes are beset with problems, ranging from understaffing, and a total lack of skills, to apathy in the face of so many patients with continuous demands for care. We found what we thought was a perfect place for my dad who was suffering from end stage Parkinsons, and died of it. Turned out to be very imperfect. My 90 yr old mother, an RN, went every day, spent hours caring for him, and, as I found out after her death, kept meticulous medical chart type notes of his condition and treatment. She noted numerous times when substandard care had occurred, and confronted the management many many times about their failures. At my dad's funeral 7 staff members of the home showed up. They were the lowest people on the staff, the immigrants who barely spoke English. They were the people who changed the diapers and washed my dad. And they didn't show up to honor my dad, since in all the time they'd known him he had been paralyzed, non verbal, basically a vegetable. But to honor my mother who never stopped caring for him and fighting for him.

"lucky" in a horrible way in that he'd been recently laid off when his father went into Skilled Nursing. He was there every day from 6:30am until maybe 10 at night and the social workers called him "the Bull" because he was relentless about getting care for his dad and would not let them forget him. They smiled when they called him "the Bull" though, because they too knew they were under-staffed and over-worked and needed that help. My step-dad only had one totally unnecessary procedure during his tenure there and yes, the Bull was the one who found it, complained about it and got it removed from our bill. At least it wasn't a horribly painful unnecessary procedure but still, and it wasn't Skilled that made him have that but the damned doctors who weren't paying enough attention.

I can't unlearn what I already know. I can't unlearn the data on melting ice. I can't unlearn the fact that when I stand outside in the sun now in January, the sun is unbearably hot. I can't unlearn wikileaks or noDAPL. I can't unlearn my computer geekiness by which I understand that the U.S. threatening cyberwarfare is fricken insane. (we are not number one)

So I endeavor to counter these fears with gratitude. When successful, there is relief and renewed courage.

To be clear, there are many "dark nights of the soul."

I like to read and follow Bill McKibben. We once got to hear him speak in Santa Fe NM when he was in town to accept an award and talk to acknowledge young winners of a local environmental action award. I contacted him beforehand via kosmail and got him to come speak to the Occupy encampment in town. It was winter, and he was so upbeat about what a great place to camp and what they were doing was important.

I am thankful I not only had a great vacation in Spain, I am grateful I didn't come home to work as I normally do. I didn't work more than 4 or 5 hours from the 30th until now, and I get to enjoy tomorrow. I can pet my dogs, mess around with my horses.
I visited Counter Punch and Truth Dig and Jack Pine Radicals today. My first time to read comments. The comments were rude, crude, trollish, offensive. Here, the essays are fun, informative, often pleasantly musical, and the comments are seldom nasty.
Grace. This place is full of it.
It is inspiring. I want to do more, to help more, to fight the 1%, to seek justice.

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

government's propaganda. Again.

Liberals in my life keep asking me when I’m going to stop picking on the Democratic establishment and start helping them beat up on Trump. Lately I’ve just been replying along the lines of, “Uhh, maybe when you people stop acting like stark raving lunatics? When you reverse your lycanthropic transformation into a bunch of red-faced Joe McCarthys and become the sensible good-hearted people I used to think you are? When you stop acting like a return to Cold War-era tensions with a nuclear superpower is somehow preferable to addressing the horrific injustices unveiled in the WikiLeaks documents? You guys live in a country with a political system that cannibalizes any candidate who looks like they might actually help the ninety-nine percent and you’re asking me when I’ll join the vast legion of commentators already relentlessly criticizing Trump?? This is nuts. You’re nuts. I need whiskey.”

The other day I wrote an article where I pointed out that the way corporate media keeps deliberately marrying the words “election” and “hacking” is probably going to succeed in making people start believing that the Russian government actively hacked voting machines to flip votes from Clinton to Trump. I wasn’t aware of this at the time, but a mi

The author has some great links in this article and also points out that our government passed a bill making it legal for them to spread propaganda. Imagine that. Now it's legal for them to do what they have been doing for how long?

leaked emails to show the extent of the lying and deception done by Hillary's team.

From your link (Excellent find, snoopy): "That is why we must fight on. All this started because the emails showed up what liars they are. Liars can only lie and now they’re doubling down. We’ve got to keep fighting them with facts and outrage because we are right and they are wrong and their lies are driving us toward extinction on so many fronts. They cannot be allowed to control the narrative because their lies point only to a war-torn starving planet of frightened wage slaves being led by the nose into the next environmental disaster. They are so wrong, we are so right, we must fight on. "
