Friday Photography Open Thread 11/25/16

My attention lately has been more inclined toward photographing interiors.

Here is the place for you to post whatever images move you, inside or out, past or present.

Monochrome or color ...

stevej, I hope you are fairing well, and will return when the time is right.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

The 'space needle and glass' is sensational, and a perfect blend of monochrome and colour.

Tell me about that falling leaf, suspended in mid air.

I took a whole bunch and it just happened. The leaves were just so amazing sitting there in the dead of winter still hanging on.

and, the layers of your long exposure are beautifully dramatic. I love how the colour progresses from dark to light, from black and white to a brilliant orange. Thank you.

I did a lot of b&w infrastructure mainly because I had access to a darkroom at work.
But now I'm more interested in landscape photography, but I think I will start broadening my interests because of these threads.
This is the only mausoleum at the cemetery where I walk

These are old grave markers at a veteran's cemetery
image_290.jpeg
These are on this grave marker and there are quite a few like this one scattered around the older part of the cemetery.

I have no idea what this image represents that is one the one above but I thought it looked cool.

This is the oldest bar in Utah and makes the best hamburgers ever.
Inside are 6 booths, a pool table and a jukebox which plays older music, Let's get drunk and screw, Mule train and others famous and not so familiar.

Thank you for sharing your work. The grave markers standing in a blanket of fallen leaves is a very poignant image. The carved image at the gravesite looks like a child being swept away by a viking ship on the current. The shuttered, practically flooded saloon looks desolate. That is my favourite photo. I’m sure it must be very inviting at other times.

It always looks like this.
One of the signs on the doors say that you must be 21 to enter the bar.
I didn't add that there's an old fashioned bar inside with what looks like the original cash register, a stuffed St. Bernard's head on the wall and inside the restrooms people have written messages for a very long time. They leave them alone. It's a single occupancy and lines form because people are reading the messages.
The ceiling is covered with 1 dollar bills but no one knows how that started.
I might have some inside photos on my other computer and will post them next week if I do.
There is a grave marker that has a bronze relief of a man and his son on it.
I stop and look at it often because it's heartbreaking.
The family lost 4 children, 3 before they were a year old, but the son with the father died when he was 10.
The father's eyes are so sad and haunted. The family sure moved around a lot.

and an extraordinary part of history and culture. I look forward to seeing the interior, if you find some photos. The messages written over the years on the wall must be very entertaining.

What a lot of tragedy that family experienced.

I switched gears and meant to write that the grave marker of the man and his son was at my cemetery not at the Star.

Here is a photo of my aunt and her cousin inside the bar which doesn't do it justice at all. This photo makes it look nicer inside then it actually is but the dawg is in it and the money on the ceiling.
The bar is pretty dingy looking inside but during water and snow skiing seasons it's always packed.
The burgers are to die for.

I looked on my computer and don't have any others of the inside.
The outside one is one I scanned so I need to find the others.

It looks very cozy. The dawg on the wall is really quirky. Your aunt and her cousin look quite bright.

and the flame in front looks mythological. Like the River Styx in Greek Mythology which separated the world of the living from the dead. When souls reached the river, a boatman would give them a ride to the other side. I really like the image on the gravestone.

Not so fancy markers as yours. Is that sinkhole upper side a collapsed grave? Ashes to ashes. The local cemetery (names still survive nearby) is a toxic leak site for formaldehyde, and other preservatives. Peace on the ground, bad stuff below. Happy my well is way uphill. Water here freely moves further downhill.

Staring at the sill beam, cut out for the floor crossbeams in your last shot. There are few people alive now who could look at a bunch of trees and envision that building and then DO it. Nice cutouts!

I'm going to have to find a different place to take photos. The window that I shoot through has decided to fog up...

Maybe I'll find someplace to try out the Sigma 10-20mm I just bought...

I can count on one hand the times I have seen cardinals, even with feeders. Too woodland-enclosed is my guess; they like borders, usual suburban life suits them well. Pretty girl! I have always found the hint-of-cardinal red more interesting than Mr Flamboyant. Seen any Evening Grosbeaks? Is that what the yellow/black feeder hogs are called? I have no Field Guide near me now...

Because of the significantly declining numbers of a variety of birds, it's especially meaningful that you photograph them.

all of the photos are absolutely gorgeous!

The B&W ones are really nice, and super interesting--thanks, SD! Hey, gotta say--major bird lover here. And, since I'm very much attached to our own backyard 'Cardinal regulars,' I must say that the lovely photos of your Cardinals were a special delight, boriscleto.

Hey, a shout-out and best wishes to SteveJ; and, I hope all of you Guys enjoy the remainder of your long holiday weekend.

See you next Friday.
