The Time To Ditch Bernie Is Now

Headline in today's The Hill: Sanders: "Clinton Will Play Vital Role In Future Of The Democratic Party."

So, now that the lingering "will he, or won't he run in 2020" doubt is settled, it's time to put Bernie in a nostalgia basket and push on. Apparently, his run really was a well-scripted sheepdogging effort to herd lefties and Millennials into the Killary fold. Look at the wreckage left in the wake: shellshocked Bernie delegates, tossed aside by the DNC; betrayed and poorer supporters who, once again, drank the Cool-aid of hope and real change; Trumpism now rules the land; third party dreams dashed. I don't have any answers. All I know is: the demoralization is complete and the Democratic party is dead.

Not to bring attention to the screwing he got?
What would be different if he had proved that there was voting or election fraud going on during the primaries?
How about taking these matters to the courts and let them decide what should happen.
Your comment suggests that there was nothing that could be done and we should just accept how the election was rigged, but gee there isn't anything we can do about so the hell with it.
Good lord, I can't believe that you wrote this or your other comments in this thread.

when you "raise holy hell" about an issue, you put people in a position where they have to answer you. Especially if you refuse to concede the race based on the fraud you're raising hell about. A constitutional crisis based on raising holy hell about that fraud would force the media, the legal system, the political system, to make a response, rather than continuing the pretense that everything's just fine. If you don't raise holy hell, the behavior gets normalized. If one senator had joined the CBC when they raised holy hell about election fraud in 2000, it's likely we wouldn't be talking about election fraud from the Democrats in 2016.

Most importantly, if you intend to leave election fraud in a Democratic primary unacknowledged and unchallenged, it begs the question, as I said above, of how in the holy hell you're going to have a political revolution based on the strategy of running progressives in Democratic primaries.

This has the feel of a pyramid scheme, with Sanders as a top-tier salesman.

I liked the black actor who played the henchman killer and was a complex sort of villain. Back to the creepy political which I'm beginning to hate. I just wish the same freaking Democratic player's would exit the stage. They lost and are so arrogant that they refuse to abide by there own bent elections outcome. They expect to pick up the pieces and put their unbelievable Humpty back together and continue down the same horrendous road. I don't think the cover provided by the token so called 'progressives' is going to work.

political reality.

That always seems like such a bland, all-purpose excuse for "not doing stuff", whatever "stuff" might need doing at a given moment. So maybe it would help to define "political reality" here, specifically, for this purpose. What "reality" is Sanders looking at, in particular, do you think? It does seem as if there may be more than a few iterations of "reality" at play here...

Bernie has been fighting voter suppression for a very, very long time.

Because he's made a personal decision not to get mired in a fight over how and when it was used against him in the primaries while Trump is about to start fucking shit up, does not (IMO) discredit his long history of working for voter's rights.

Seems like his "support" left him and went green when he refused to do something he never said he'd do; take his ball and go home because Clinton beat him, albeit unfair and unsquare.

Seems to me Bernie's supporters are well aware of the reality of election fraud and voter suppression. That would amount to a major increase in awareness of the subject going forward. It's not like he's never, ever going to speak about it or act against it in the future. Just keep watching for proof.

It seems to me that a lot of the anti-Bernie sentiment is nothing more than frustration over his refusal to put the outrage of some of his former supporters above his trust in his own well-honed political instincts.

Remember that the Democrats initially got into this trouble because everyone decided to "get together" behind a candidate whose most obvious substance was "one word for the little people and another word for Goldman Sachs," and whose main appeal on offer was "I'm going to be the first woman President." Honesty is why we liked Sanders. Telling everyone that his campaign helped Clinton's fight against Trump does not count as honesty, regardless of what you think of his long-term fight. Saying such stuff therefore diminishes Sanders' appeal.

Bernie began to get serious heat in April 2016 about not having released all his tax returns.
He and Jane told tale after tale about their imminent release. Meanwhile voters had to choose as the primaries went by.

Note Devine clip is June 5. Just before Weaver had flat promised Matthews the returns would be released prior to convention. Never happened. Matthews has a lot of fun with Devine here.

I presume Sanders position is now "Who cares?" But at the time I cared a lot. That he has never come clean really chafes my butt. I gave that guy my time and money. Don't want to hear much from Bernie these days.

1)He wasn't fighting the real fight, which, given that he'd chosen an electoral strategy, was ensuring both that voters were able to vote and that the count was accurate.

2)He put all his eggs in the baskets of Our Revolution and Brand New Congress, which focused mainly on electoral strategies (see above). Given that he'd just used one of those strategies and had been politically carjacked, it seems incredibly stupid to found new organizations based on doing the same thing again. Most of his supporters don't think Bernie's stupid, so most chose instead to believe that these organizations were insincere time-wasters, holes down which to pour progressive energy. I call such orgs storm drains, because they safely carry away public sentiments that are inconvenient to the currently powerful.

3)He not only endorsed Clinton, but went around the country delivering talking points about her which his supporters all knew were lies. In fact, a lot of people who weren't his supporters knew they were lies too. The idea of telling people Hillary is progressive and is going to support progressive policies is ridiculous. Everyone knows she won't. IMO, this was the tipping point, because the reason most Bernie supporters came to his campaign was that he was telling the truth and not shoveling bullshit at us like most politicians. The moment he started with the BS, he was chopping himself off at the knees. And IMO, the Clinton machine knew it and wanted him to axe his own reputation. Why he did is an interesting question, but not a very important one.

4)Then there's the absurdity of acting like the Democratic party platform means anything, when anyone involved in politics knows the Democrats ignore their platform 3 years out of every four. And the spin of calling it the most progressive Dem party platform ever, when it's hardly progressive at all. And making a big deal out of the climate language, when it, like the Paris agreement, is completely inadequate.

the one you find in Plato's Republic -- plays into Sanders' reasoning. The "noble lie" is the myth which the Guardians are to tell the people of the Republic to insure its safety as a political unit. Here, I'm guessing, the "noble lie" is universally viewed by Democrats as necessary to keep the Left from forming a "third party." Of course, none of us non-Democrats want a "third party" (unless we are of the "vote for Kerry and Cobb" persuasion). What we want is realignment.

Exactly. We all knew. Hell, even Hillary knew!! It had to frost her granny panties! And of course Bernie knew he was spouting a load of $h!t.
So, why do you think he did so? Why do you think "he lied?"
Why do you think he spouted that line of horse$h!t right there in Philly in front of God and the whole world?
"We all know Hillary is in favor of... " Should have been howls of laughter! Hillary prolly spout her champagne thru her nose. Instead, slight nods, the nodders not sure if they believed his b.s. or not. "We all know Hillary... " More polite nods.
So, why do you think he spouted that line of crap?
I'll tell you why I think he did so - and, upon hearing this crap (the bell in my brain getting my attention) I practically stood up and applauded - and why I so whole-heartedly support the Bernster...
Bernie's back, I said! Or, at least not going away, not retreating, not Sheep or LapDogging it.
What did the bell tell me?
Listen, moron, he's telling you something, pay attention.
The speech was for Berners.
"We all know Hillary loves the $15 an hour... "
"will end fracking... "
huh? since when?
Pay attention! Read between those lines, moron.
Ah! I get it. I finally get it.
He's pinning those Talking Points to Her Highness.
We all know she doesn't believe in a one of them, but it doesn't matter.
Bernie just pinned them to her. She owns them (whether she wants to or not).
Brilliant!
Just brilliant!
On top of that - and even more important - pinning those Talking Points to her - in front of everyone in Philly - Gave Him An Out! Gave Him an Out of being chained to HRC (should she win the Election).
How, you ask?
By Hillary backing out of those Talking Points - and you KNOW she would have (as did Bernie) - it gave Bernie the Out he needed to walk away from the HRC horse$h!t - and start up the revolution he has wanted since he started 20 months ago!
More brilliance!
A Two-Fer.
Pin her with Talking Points she has zero intention of addressing, and then turning those around on her, giving him his Out.
"As much as I'm disappointed in Her Highness failing to address the Platform planks "We" worked on in Philly... I have decided to drop my support for this administration... and, instead, getting the band back together, gathering the BernieBros and getting back on the road!"
"If the Democratic party won't get it done We Will."
That's my take on all this HRC razzmatazz, Bernie just biding his time. Your mileage may vary.

Pinned to Hillary?

If Bernie is basing his strategy on holding Hillary accountable for anything, he needs to talk to Jim Comey. She doesn't get held accountable even for what she does, much less what she says (all she has to do is claim to "evolve" on an issue--hell, even LGBT people rallied behind her like gangbusters...after she opposed marriage equality until 2013!) In this case, it's not even something she said, but something Bernie said about her. What do you think would happen when she immediately did the opposite? Would anyone in the corporate media even ask her why she wasn't consistent w/what Bernie said? And if they did, would that go anywhere?

How do you get from the part of your equation when, I suppose, Bernie or somebody else points out the inconsistency between the "progressive Hillary" talking point and the horrible reality--

to the part where she changes and starts enacting decent policy?

Lots of people have been pointing out Hillary's inconsistencies for a long time.

Bernie Sanders: It Would Be ‘An Outrage’ If Donald Trump Prosecuted Hillary Clinton
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-donal...

“It would be almost beyond comprehension to think that a new president would be involved in the prosecution of his opponent who ended up getting some 2 million more votes than he did,” Sanders told reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.

“It would completely divide this country. It would be an outrage,” he said. “I would hope very, very, very much that Mr. Trump understands that is not something he should do.”

Bernie, buddy, it would be an outrage to let her walk just because she was a candidate for office. That's the WHOLE FREAKING POINT.

The former was understandable too, because it was painfully obvious that Barack Obama was as bought off as either Clinton.

If Trump prosecuted Hillary Clinton and threw her in jail, it would set a precedent that political corruption is no longer de facto legalized. That would be a very helpful precedent going forward, and both parties could be hollowed out as a result. How would that possibly be a bad thing?

the script on the Clintonites as they began to attempt to blame him for her loss.

During the Q&A after the speech, Dionne pressed the former presidential candidate on criticism that he damaged Clinton during their primary campaign by drawing out the race and telling supporters that his rival was corrupt and that the system was rigged.

Sanders rejected the notion out of hand. "The presumption behind that question is, I guess, we should anoint candidates for president," he said, noting that stolen emails released by Wikileaks showed the Democratic National Committee was "not a neutral force" in the primary.

......

"Do I think our campaign, in a sense, made Hillary Clinton a better candidate? Yeah I do," Sanders explained. "And I'll tell you why, because by the end the campaign she was against the Keystone Pipeline, by the end the campaign she was against the [Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal], by the end the campaign she was for making public colleges and universities tuition free."

Trump was going to protect Medicare and SS, and now he's not. Hillary was never FOR those things anymore than Trump was for "renegotiating" trade agreements. She SAID she was for those things, and as we all know far too well, she can say whatever she wants to get elected. I thought he was smarter than this.

As for prosecuting her, she does damned well need to be prosecuted as does Bill and more than likely Chelsea. And by not doing that, by saying we should NOT do that, you prove you're in the tank for law and order for the peons, and freedom from it for the oligarchs. Oligarchs you once properly railed against but who you now defend? Just, NO!

Crazy days we live in.
Kinda like the Clintonites telling me my vote for Stein was a vote for Trump so I guess this is par for course these days.

Bernie was never in on the emails and because he wasn't the Clintonites have been unable to hang this loss around his neck.

Bernie always plays the long game and that is why he is the most popular politician in the country and will be until he retires or dies.

Oligarchs you once properly railed against but who you now defend?

I do not and have not defended the oligarchs. I work for the oligarchs here on Wall Street, they feed my family, and I still rail against them and always will.

Rage against the machine. If you think Bernie is the machine then have at it but you will never convince me.

of "professional entertainer progressives" like Maher and Maddow and Dems like Bernie and Warren.

Maybe they will surprise me and be good for something in the next four years. I am all for it.

I considered the sentence "found art" , which I really wanted to use. I probably should have resisted.
Meant nothing personally derogatory- in a sense, most all of us have to work for the Combine in some way.
Hope this is adequate. thx

that was directed at Bernie. I understand completely we all work and we all prostitute ourselves at times doing it, at least according to my own fathers words. But for Bernie to ask us now to ignore what we've all seen, to ignore his own words against these people, it's simply too much for me. He's helped destroy any trust I once had, and that wasn't much to begin with.

Again, comment directed at him, not you.

the whole "fractional voting" thing was simply used against "other parties"? I sure as hell don't believe those totals--Johnson's or Stein's. It's in said Corporate Parties' best interest to choke the living shit out of that notion, as far as "Conventional Wisdom" of "media" #Whatthefuckever...

in which I answer this question? Perhaps this one will help. Short version: 3rd parties don't do a whole lot better because NOBODY JOINS THEM. Hopefully, some unique point of time will arise soon in which the masses will awaken to the irredeemable failure of the Two-Party Project. Perhaps this point of time will occur some time after the current Snake-Oil-Salesman-In-Chief has finally retired from office perhaps.

By all means Bernie! Please tie the Dem's future to the least popular politician in the country.

Hillary may have won more votes than Trump, but that's still less than Mitt Romney got running against a vote machine like Obama.

And let's face it, when you can't get more votes than Mitt Romney, you know it's books and puppies time!

So I'm hip to your plan you sly old sea dog. No better way to sink those decrepit, RICO-claim-waiting-to-happen elitist phony busybodies once and for all than to make sure that heavy Clinton anchor stays firmly tied to the good ship Democrats.

Brilliant maneuver, sir! Brilliant!

reading some of the comments here, I have to wonder just what would Bernie have to do to forfeit the allegiance of the most slavishly devoted Berniebots? Maybe if he and Jane started appearing in public decked out as King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

First, after being outrageously cheated out of the Dem nomination by a hopelessly corrupt and implacably hostile Democratic establishment, instead of throwing his support behind his (supposed) ideological soulmate Jill Stein, and giving impetus to a genuine people's movement, he endorses Her Heinous, the Queen of Chaos, warmonger extraordinaire, environmental despoiler, exporter of good paying jobs, stalwart friend of Wall St. fraudsters, and all the rest.

But that's okay, I guess, because - Donald Trump! Except that Her Incompetent Heinous finds a way to lose anyway. But at least Bernie maintains his establishment cred, right?

Then, before the tears are even dry on all the diehard "I'm With Her" Hillbot cheeks, Bernie is singing the praises of Wall Streets favorite butt boy, little Chuckie Schumer. This is going to be our new ally in the fight against economic injustice? And now he is busily attempting to rehabilitate the shattered reputation of Lady McHill, while simultaneously scolding Donald Trump just for entertaining even the idea of prosecuting poor Hillary for crimes that are without doubt more serious, both in terms of her intent and the practical consequences, than the honorable actions taken by Chelsea Manning, which have resulted in her being sentenced to spend the rest of her life in a dungeon.

And let's not forget all the hosannas directed at Barack Obama, a man whose unerring pursuit of pro-one percent, anti-ninety-nine percent policies probably did more to pave the way for a Donald Trump presidency than any other single factor. Granted, as a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination you can't exactly slam the Democrat incumbent president, but was it really necessary to sing his praises and harp on his supposed "greatness"? Isn't real political courage supposed to be about speaking truth to power?

It's no accident that Bernie's new activist group Our Revolution has been met with somewhat less than universal acclaim. Why did a majority of its young staff members, representing some of his most dedicated and zealous supporters, resign en masse on the eve of the organization's formal launch? I think it was probably because they were able to tell the difference between genuinely moving the ball forward and going around in circles.

Of course, nothing that could possibly be said about Bernie could possibly dim the ardor of his most fervent cadre of True Believers. But for the rest of us, as Sanders continues to reject and repudiate those who should be his natural allies, and embrace and promote those who should be his natural enemies, I have no doubt that the allure of what he is attempting to sell us will continue to diminish.

"Berniebots"

Way to encourage respectful discussion.

Oh, and as for this:

It's no accident that Bernie's new activist group Our Revolution has been met with somewhat less than universal acclaim. Why did a majority of its young staff members, representing some of his most dedicated and zealous supporters, resign en masse on the eve of the organization's formal launch? I think it was probably because they were able to tell the difference between genuinely moving the ball forward and going around in circles.

If you were paying attention, you'd already know why Our Revolution dropped with a thud, and wouldn't need to substitute your own unfounded speculation. Try teh google, it might help.

Also you might find that "the rest of us" in which you've included yourself is a minority on the progressive left. Whether you like or agree with it, or not.

...Sanders continues to reject and repudiate those who should be his natural allies...

Really? Because I think you've got it backwards; you've rejected him because he didn't take his ball and go home when you arbitrarily decided he should.

I get your point of view, but I'd appreciate it if you could communicate it with a little bit less patronizing name calling.

"slavishly devoted Berniebots" is worthy of Kos, not this place.
