In a bold and stunning move, Senate Dems tap Schumer as their leader.
OK, far from bold. And far, far away from stunning. As is done in a fraternal organization where the leadership moves "up the chairs", Wall Street's darling is now the Minority Leader in the Senate. Once you become 2nd Vice President at the Elks Lodge, you simply wait your turn to be Grand Poobah (kinda like Her Heinous, btw). Like the generals who insist on fighting the last war. Like an MLB baseball team that hires a manager who has lost at every franchise he's managed (because he's a good 'baseball man'), Chuck Schumer is the Democratic leader in the Senate.
Thirsting for new ideas and a new direction, we get the 'same old, same old'. Not that there was ever much doubt. If there was EVER an exclusive "members only" club, it's the United States Senate. While I truly hope that he does a good job, I'm afraid that his definition of 'a good job' is very different from mine. I don't look for much introspection from the guy who said this during the POTUS general election campaign:
“For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.”
Oh well:

this is the way the demparty survives
"he will be given much more power than would traditionally be allotted to a self-described “democratic socialist.”
and
"may indicate... embracing the left-wing populism that made Sanders such a potent adversary
combating Trump’s effective right-wing populism by embracing the left-wing populism..."
this is what comes out of realizing the loss of power when the bernie message and masses were ignored
it's okay with me if they co-opt bernie now, at least in their own minds...
whatever all this will bring us, bernie will continue to be bernie, i.e. good for us
Maybe instead of demparty it should be dumparty. Dumpparty
whatev, no good to come from those wimps. Or twits.

I think the
DT seems to respect Bernie.

Will Anybody at MSDNC, CNN, CBS, etc remind him about that quote
...or would it be deemed too impolitic and embarrassing for the poor old dear?
Attention Dirty Effing Hippies
Our Great and Benevolent Leader, Bernie Wan Kenobi himself, has bestowed his personal seal of approval on Senator Schumer.
Hopefully this pronouncement will put the matter to rest once and for all. Chuck Schumer is good for the Democratic Party, good for America, and good for Progressive-ism. End of discussion, full stop.
Any questions?

Ugh! This is an example of why I say I don't think Sanders can
be trusted anymore. He'll do/say anything to protect his day job.

Agree 100 percent
It seems that ever since the Hillary endorsement, Bernie the Angry Populist has been MIA, replaced by Saint Bernard, the loyal and faithful establishment sheepdog. Sad to see.

There's nobody I know better prepared and more capable of ______(1)______ than ______(2)______.
Didn't we hear exactly the same line about (1) President and (2) Hillary?
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
My immediate thought...
Bernie...
You really need to meet more people.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Or get off his fricking knees to the Democratic Establishment

OMG, good soldier to the end.
I am sad. For us, for him as he stood a year ago in May when he announced. (was it May?)

No questions.
A lot of people knock Bernie, apparently not realizing the environment he is stuck with. If he wants to get legislation passed, he will unfortunately need the support and help of at least a few of his fellow senators.
We didn't exactly get a large number of socialist dems elected to office, now did we?

Schumer's history
in the Party is atrocious. Am not surprised his understanding of the people is a vague "feeling". From his Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Schumer
And his defending Clintons is certainly nothing new:
Salvage the party? I vote for one of those big car crushers. Then perhaps some pitchfork and shovel style reform.
"So it goes."
Kurt Vonnegut
when clinton was in the senate
schumer reportedly was quite unhappy with her because- she got so much more attention than he- and he was the senior senator from NY after all. They had a rocky relationship apparently. He's a vain prick.
I'm going to play devil's advocate here
The leadership slot requires someone who knows how the place works, they should have been in the Senate for two full terms at least. There aren't a lot of Democrats who meet that criteria. No I don't want Schumer either, but who would be better that a) has been on the job long enough to know all the obscure rules inside and out and b) wants the job?
Schumer is not a change agent, but the Senate is probably the least likely place for change to originate. That isn't even its function.

"A species that is hurtling toward extinction has no business promoting slow incremental change." -- Caitlin Johnstone
Office of the President has been consistently...
Losing the amount of "Experience" needed to hold it.
At this point, rule book has already been tossed, and the Dems are trying to make shit up as they go along. (Faithless Electors? )
There ain't no "Experience" that preps you for that.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
WD, along with your thinking,
I like how Schumer is trying to put some political diversity into his 10 Dem leaders by including liberals and establishment. Maybe I am naive, but I liked this spiel.
Matthew Rozsa, a Ph.D. student in history at Lehigh University and a political columnist, writes this:

House of Lords, that is the Senate
and we the serfs have seen them mostly betraying us, time after time. Should all have been set up like the Iroquois Nation. I don't recall that they were bicameral.

No offense, but like are you kiddin' me?
Schumer. He should look like all the coin he's been bribed with over the years. Rec'd!
