Alpha's Election Night Survival Thread/Live Blog. Now with useful tips! Part Deux!

Same great blog, new faster page.

Well, I just went and voted (Stein, couldn't bring myself to break my pledge to not vote for evil, even to stop Clinton.)

Some interesting anecdotes:

My wife went to vote right after she got off work this morning. She arrived about 20 minutes before the Florida polls opened. She reported that there were only about a dozen people in line and by the time she was done voting there was no line whatsoever.

I decided to wait and go closer to peak time (shortly after 5PM when I figured people getting off work would be arriving to vote) and there was zero line. I walked straight up to the person, surrendered my mail in ballot and then got my approval slip to pick up my ballot. (Was excited to see that my #DemExit to the Green party had already been registered!!! Woohoo!!

On my way in and out to the polling station there was a pair of large black signs with bold lettering saying, "No political advertising, signs, or electioneering beyond this point.

Can you guess what was directly in front of all four signs just past shy of the limit?

4 Trump/Pence signs.

Nowhere in the ride towards my polling place (at a church in a rural neighborhood) I saw ZERO Clinton signs.

Not a one.

About 15 Trump signs on the side of the road and on peoples lawns. (I was somewhat happy to see a couple, "VOTE GREEEN!" signs but only a couple.... Upside? That's a couple more than I saw for Clinton.

Ok, Now for the survival part of this guide.

On my way home from the polls I decided I needed to pick up some necessary supplies for the evening and the morrow.

For our first survival item we are featuring our good friend Alcohol. Ahhh, that stalwart companion that has helped me not give a shit about things in the past, if only for a short time, is going to make a strong entrance tonight I think no matter the outcome.

Al Kohaul.jpg

Now, as I was pretty sure that even that wouldn't be enough to quite help us get through the evening I had to break into my emergency supplies and bring out the big guns. (One of which you can see on the right side of the screen in the previous photo, however tonight is already necessitating the bringing out of the big guns...)

Mind Control Device.jpg

However, I fear that even with the above it may not be enough to get the job done so I have the following two items. First, one to pour into my eyes so I don't have to see that smug, arrogant evil smile if she manages to steal pull off a victory.

Hotsauce.jpg

And a couple of these to jam into my ears so I don't ever have to hear her voice again:

Stoppers and pens_1.jpg

(Maybe I can sue the manufacturer for not putting a warning label on those things... But then again, since that's me even if I win I wont get shit, lol!)

Well, I invite you to join me below, share the things you are seeing on the net and in R/L, and tie one on.

First hit is free... Smile

Edited to add this LINK TO PART ONE.

Thanks again to everyone for coming

on CNN. Gee, ya think? I hate them reducing it to some pandering slogan, but my God. Well, I have to stop listening to the talking heads, too late to start yelling now. We told them. Now look what they've done. Would be great if the media would grow a set, but no, they'll blame us or some other stupid, vapid thing. Thanks much for doing this Alpha! And thank whoever put the link that I saw at the hell hole to this lovely place! We'll all need it now to maintain some sanity. And I've done the MSM tonight, back to no more of that tomorrow. But man, is it really true that we now have President Trump? God help us.

I was expecting President Cruz in 2021 but looks like though luck for him. He's the smartest and most malleable of the clown car occupants so I respected him to be an amalgam of Trump and a holler than thou type for the 2020 election. Rubio is just too dumb to be a contender, but then again that didn't stop the Shrub.

So who is going to oppose the yam in 2020 from the semi rational end of the spectrum? Bernie will be to old, I think. The only thing safe to say is neither party will have a worse nominee t than they did this time around.

And, can you believe this? They sent a correspondent to Moscow (!!!) to gauge the reaction there. Tying a Trump win to Putin. No shame.

The people, united, will never be defeated.

Looks as though Nevada may have its first Latina U.S. Senator, Catherine Cortez Masto (D)

I don't care which party it is, every barrier that falls improves America in some way. Sadly, Hillary is leading in Nevada.

Looks as though Feingold will lose again.

Some annoying news: If Trump wins, any time something bad happens, we will hear how it would never have happened under Imaginary President Hillary. Having lived with this for sixteen years with Imaginary President Gore, we are used to it. I suggest five possible responses:

1. "LOL!"

2. "Nothing anyone says about Imaginary Administrations is credible."

3. "LOL!"

4. "Imaginary President Hillary would have done worse. As a Senator, she voted for the Iraq War; she tried twice to pass her flag burning bill; she did not get a single substantive bill passed; and she opposed equal marriage. She's every bit as bigoted as Trump, just more secretive and calculated. She's also as corrupt and untrustworthy as it gets."

5. "LOL!"

So, Colorado voters, as heavily influenced by big Insurance industry (and proven that Koch bros. money played a part) turned down single payer.
AT the same time, however, a "right to die" initiative passed. Let me be clear, I'm all for 'right to die,' AS LONG AS IT ISN'T APPLIED JUST TO POOR AND WORKING CLASS WHO COULDN'T AFFORD BASIC TREATMENT, therefore are now beyond help.
Do you see the connection? You CANNOT have universal health care, but when you're too far gone-- because you had no access to health care-- we'll pay for your "gentle" suicide.

Hillary Clinton: the new Dewey?

up
0 users have voted.

No, Truman had formidable competition for the Democratic base from Strom Thurmond, because Truman integrated the military in 1948 (an election year!), and also from my namesake and FDR's former VP, Henry A. Wallace, running to Truman's left (Progressive/American Labor). Thomas, Teichert and Dobb competed for the left as well, on various socialist tickets. Hillary got very little competition from her left. Still, Truman got almost 50% of the popular vote.

Dewey's only competition from the right was the Prohibition Party, which got .21% of the vote. Nowadays, sadly, more people run to the right of the Republican than to the left of the Democrat. I am not sure when the flip occurred, but I will find out soon in the course of researching my series of posts about Presidential elections and liberals). Plus, while I know zero about Dewey, I bet he was not viewed as dishonest, untrustworthy and consistently corrupt and self aggrandizing as The Hillary.

Yes, again, like Dewey, Clinton has been ahead in polls pretty much all along, ....

I read MinuteMan's post to refer to the erroneously premature announcement by the newspapers that Dewey had won the election. There's a famous photo showing Truman holding up the Chicago Daily Tribune with the headline "Dewey Defeats Truman".

Looks like Newsweek will have to re-do the cover of this week's edition, which they've already prepared showing Hillary and the words "Madam President".

I just read that piece of crap he wrote and my blood boiled over again. The little dictator that used censorship to eliminate any discussion of why Hillary was the wrong candidate now wants to pretend it never happened. The nerve of him to now suggest that he wants to make Bernie the DNC Chair? It makes me want to sign in and write a comment that says nothing but "Fuck! You! Kos!" I suspect Bernie would probably feel the same way. But, I'm going to save my banning for a few days until things settle down over there and the flood of diaries die off.

I hope the DNC paid him well as I think the money being from that POS website is about to crash. Who would listen to that fool at this point?

Trump wins with 304 electoral votes. He's going to win Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Alaska. Hillary will probably get the rest. The Dkos'ers were right! It is a landslide election!

It's been strange watching these election results. I feel like an outsider. I haven't been rooting for either candidate because it's just a choice of which one is the worst. In my mind, Hillary slightly edged Trump out in that contest, but she was the inevitable one! The candidate that had the DNC, the media, the President and every corporation and billionaire behind her. And she lost!! There's some satisfaction in the result.

Now, I'm really looking forward to hearing her whiny little concession speech, if she's big enough to even make one. Frankly, I don't think the two-time loser has it in her to make that speech now fully aware that her political aspirations have come to a total and complete end. If we're lucky, her concession speech will be last words we ever have to hear from her!!

I've been using Fox for the internet results and they've been showing 254 for Trump for the past couple hours. Fox called Wisconsin for Trump a couple hours ago and Politico hasn't called Wisconsin yet, But Politico has called Pennsylvania for Trump.

I'm watching CBS coverage and Podesta just made an announcement at the Jarvis center and told everyone to go home. There are too many states left to call and they'll be back tomorrow to make and acceptance or concession speech then. She is not going to make any announcement tonight!! CBS commentators are freaking out saying this is unheard of. Why do I get this strange feeling that by tomorrow, Hillary will be winning all these states? Is the fix in?

If not, will Hillary make a concession speech? I'm betting we never a statement from her if she loses. The democrats couldn't have selected a more disgusting candidate if they tried.

Well said, somehow the republic has survived similar idiots, but now it’s as bad as it’s ever been and the Democratic party is in unprecedented territory because even during the most horrible times there was some vestige of Democratic resistance in terms of political representation, but now especially for all POC, there will be heightened micro-aggressive hate in the most mundane actions of daily life. Many in (TOP and here) remember those days of early civil rights struggles, feminism, political tolerance, and we will be stepping back into those days, more open with Pence as another Cheney, and the first military test for the Trump administration an opportunity to use tactical nuclear weapons. And the FBI has simply made more obvious its political allegiances as civil liberties become more Russian, as will so many other things. And Trump will have an “enemies list” that will make Nixon’s musings even more unhinged. But at my age, unemployed, no healthcare, and in debt, perhaps that won’t matter since I don’t have heirs, but I have always cared for and believed in a better America, and now it’s going to go back to something so very inhumane, so unfair, and so very anti-democratic.

the vote totals are interesting. I've been watching on and off again for hours as I do my late night research work. Gotta love library cataloging at night. Trump is still the winner, by electoral college votes, but Clinton has overtaken him in popular vote. By 0.1% or 1,500,000 votes. Good grief. If I gave a shat, it would be a nail biter. As it is, it's just sadly funny. Thank you very much for the blog alphalop, I have been reading it all night in between actual work. What this election has meant to me is disappointment in most of my fellow Americans. Disappointed in the Dems; well, more like enraged. But also disappointed that the Greens did not do better. Does this mean Americans really are right wingers? Or, the Green party is just the wrong vehicle, or what? I wonder.
