The party of Big Business

We all know the GOP is the party of Big Business.
This one party has pushed through almost all the largest and most significant deregulation and dereform bills of the last few decades.
Just look at how they bent over backwards for Big Business.

Deregulated Airlines

Deregulated Railroads

Deregulated Trucking

Deregulated arms exports

Deregulated GMO crops

Deregulated meat and poultry inspection

Deregulated Energy Utilities

Deregulated the banking and financial industry again, and again, and again, and again

Deregulated Oil and Gas prices

Deregulated Telecommunications

Helped create the WTO and granted permanent low-tarrifs on Chinese products.

Cut capital gains taxes again and again

Pushed through NAFTA

  Oh, wait. I'm sorry.
I listed all stuff the Democrats did for Big Business.

How did I confuse the two?

Given the evidence, if you support deregulation of big business, low capital gains taxes, and free trade agreements, vote Democrat.
Deregulation is a good thing for the economy, right?

A merger brought in unionization, affecting him. I gave all happy-talk as a mother, and he found a little SNAFU that has screwed him out, again. He is job-hunting again. Lateral move means higher salary or wages, I think he is still hourly.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

"Ladies and gentleman, we are currently cruising down Wall Street because we are fed up with our bosses! Pilots stage protest" from the Daily Mail UK.

I also think of another completely ignored plea. While everyone in the media was falling over themselves to interview hero Cptn Sully, who safely landed a malfunctioning plane in the East River of NYC (which is now a Hollywood movie), nobody wanted to hear his grievances about the underpaid and overworked airline industry.

Always astounds me to hear of commercial pilots making such paltry salaries. The grinder of relentless capitalism is literally endangering and destroying folks.

Jacobin had this: "Neoliberalism at 30,000 Feet: Airline deregulation has wrought service cuts, endless fees, and reduced worker pay."

By drastically reducing ticket costs, the major airlines would take on an unsustainable amount of debt that, combined with the loss of business to the new entrants, would lead to layoffs or bankruptcy. Pension funds were then raided and labor contracts voided to pay for the price wars. With each airline company collapse, thousands of employees were laid off, decimating union membership.

To compete, the legacy airlines also drove down the salaries of their pilots, and cut benefits and vacation time. Besides a reduction in compensation, a two-tiered pay system has been set up with decent pay for incumbent pilots and markedly low wages for new entrants. Starting salaries for pilots are now as low as $15,000 a year, even as CEO pay rises inexorably. Remarking on a career in which he had seen his pay cut in half and his pension eliminated, captain Sully Sullenberger told the BBC in 2009 that he did not know “a single professional pilot who wants his or her children to follow in their footsteps.”

when you've got "New" Dems giving the scroogie to the American people? Sure the Repubes are unhinged, so what? The Dems are making the country unlivable for the 90% so let's concentrate on their perfidies and venalities. Doing so doesn't indicate support for the other half of the $$$ Party, it's just that we've read about FDR's Economic Bill of Rights and that sounds good to us.

Climate change. (since no candidate other than Stein is mentioning it, I thought I'd mention it.)

elections

Blue Dog membership was nearly cut in half by the 2010 election, in which 26 members were re-elected but 28 were either defeated or chose not to run for re-election.

Blue Dog membership was nearly cut in half again for the 113th Congress. Of the 27 Blue Dogs, 3 resigned (Giffords, Cardoza and Harman), while 10 chose not to run for re-election or were defeated. Of the remaining 14 members Adam Schiff left the coalition, but Pete Gallego (Texas), Kyrsten Sinema (Arizona), Ron Barber (Arizona), Nick Rahall (West Virginia), Dan Lipinski (Illinois), and Cheri Bustos (Illinois) joined them for the 113th Congress.

Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will become the Senate Majority leader, if the Dems get control of the Senate next month. Schumer is a good friend of Wall Street.

"Schumer's ascension to the top Democratic position in the Senate -- and even possibly to Senate majority leader if his party regains control of the chamber -- is a boon for the finance and business communities, which have worked closely with the New York native and enjoyed his support for decades. It also puts an industry ally in charge of the Democratic caucus as the party's economic populists, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, have grown increasingly vocal."

in fairness, which Senator has NOT been a great friend to big business? For example, which Senators voted against confirmations of Paulsen, Geithner, Bernanke, Genachowski, et al.?

Before you answer, please know that I don't consider speeches to show enmity. Wall Street, banksters, huge businesses--they all understand the need of politicians for rhetoric and bloviation. They are willing to watch what legislators do and ignore what they say. The reality is, no Senator does much about anything. On average, they write about 2.5 bills a year that become law--and that includes bills like re-naming post offices and appreciating Harriet Tubman.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

Warren's. As a Senator, Bernie collaborated with Senator McCain on a veteran's bill that became law. While that is commendable and more than Hillary accomplish while a Senator. However, his bill did not exactly kick Wall Street in the shins. I don't know that Sanders has ever even attempted to pass a bill that does. Is speaking out against Wall Street better than not doing that? Yes, but it doesn't change anything.

I desperately wanted Sanders to be the Democratic nominee, but as Kennedy noted when Hillary arrogated to herself credit for the SCHIP bill, "Facts are stubborn things."
