You'll Soon Find Out It's True
Progressives have been saying it for thirty years.
We said it to Mondale and establishment Democrats, we said it to Dukakis and establishment Democrats, we said it to Bill Clinton and his triangulating Democrats, we said it in 2000 and 2004, we said it in 2008 and 2012, we've said it in every damn midterm in between, we've said it to Reid and Pelosi, we've said it to the Centrist Democrats and the Third Way Democrats and the Full-of-Shit-Every-Day-of-the Week Democrats, we've been saying it to Wall Street's latest Puppet President for eight years, we've said it over and over again, we've said it to the Great Grand Bargainer and that degenerate party of hippie punching hypocrites he's so proud of, we've said it in every way it's possible to say it . . .
Stop Dragging My Heart Around.
Thirty years of it is thirty years too many.

The Democrats do it every damn election . . .
You come knocking on my front door,
Same old line you used to use before.
The same old line with the same old empty words, the same smoke and the same mirrors, the same two-faced double-talk, the same hype about the scary Republicans, the same calculated posturing, the same craven manipulation, the same condescending crap about the Supreme Court, the same crocodile tears for the victims of corporate greed, the same cynical appeals for the votes of working people you've never given a fuck about and never will.
And as soon as the election is over, we hear the same excuses, we see the same betrayal, the same treachery, the same foreign policy fiascoes, the same free trade charade, the same fearmongering about terrorism, the same shameful disregard for the Bill of Rights and the Rule of Law, the same feckless fiddle playing while global warming burns.
There's people running 'round loose in the world,
Ain't got nothing better to do,
Than make a meal of some bright-eyed kid.
The Democratic Party has been making a meal of bright-eyed kids ever since Vietnam. 50,000 of them never came home again. Bright-eyed kids have been dying all over the world because of Democratic complicity in coups and regime changes and "counterterrorism" and economic exploitation. The Clintons have been making a meal of bright-eyed kids throughout their entire political careers, and soon that evil, scheming Putin will be escalating his evil schemes and Hillary will have no choice but to unleash the Pentagon war machine on the bright-eyed kids of the Middle East and the bright-eyed kids of Russia and the bright-eyed kids of China and the last three bright-eyed kids still alive in Syria.
Every progressive who has a problem with that needs to get a life.
Well, I heard some people talking just the other day . . .
And they said they were gonna put us on a shelf . . .
That's the plan. We'll be put up on their "Democratic Party" shelf like a Triangulation Trophy.
Well, let me tell you we've got some news for you,
And you'll soon find out it's true,
And then you'll have to fight your wars all by yourself.
Don't expect our votes on Election Day, Hillary.
Don't look around for us.
If you would have stumbled out of your DNC limousine the morning after the California Primary, opened your eyes and looked around, you wouldn't have seen any Progressives within a thousand miles of you.
We were already gone . . .

"I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones."
John Cage
The old ideas are killing the planet.
That's what everyone in this world should be frightened about.
Work stoppage
Just a week, withholding the toil of our bodies, all the millions of us that stand with the 99%, with the aborted campaign of Bernie, with the vigorous efforts of Jill, even if most of those other 99% out there are clueless, just a week, or maybe two, would land a wakeup call to the boardrooms of the rich and greedy.
But then, many of us are just a week or two away from financial disaster.......this was the plan all along....an impoverished citizenry cannot afford to stand up for themselves.
I've said this over and again
I completely agree with your work stoppage plan, but as you say, most of us will not be able to withstand that sort of economic pressure on our households and the elites know it and set up the system this way for this very reason. What I see coming down the pike is a citizenry with nothing left to lose. Unfortunately, that is the basis for all revolutions...they only happen when the people have nothing left to lose. Right now people still have "hope" that things will get better "soon". When the realization happens that their hopes are false...then...(maybe)

I was, already gone
fed up with both Obamas and their rhetoric.
Then, Jane and Bernie Sanders started speaking. Against all my better instincts, I said, "one more time." I'll try, one more time.
No more. No more. This will probably be my last vote, and I will vote for Donald Trump, as I think he is less dangerous than the Clintons. My heart is certainly not in it. But just this last time. 71 years, and after all the failed efforts, planning to concentrate on the reading, painting, creative projects which give me pleasure.

Obama's deceit has been of the same kind of deceit politicians
regularly employ but I think it's an order of magnitude, or more, greater than other presidential candidates who won the presidency. It's hard to think of a progressive campaign promise he has not broken and it's hard to think of a group that strongly supported him that he hasn't dumped on. (Make that a non-ultra rich group). Many of his promises could have been fulfilled by executive order but he's decided it's more important to murder American citizens via drone than to make it easier for wage earners to organize to gain some say over their work lives. I wish I had the perspective to stand back and admire the backstabbing but I don't.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
Obama is the ultimate backstabber

He had me fooled.
I voted for him in 2008. I should have known better.
I voted for Jill in 2012 and am voting for her again this year.
I voted for him in 2012 as well as 2008
Lesser evil. Never again. No more evil.

How bad would Romney have been? Obama implemented his health care plan.

I can understand
I was very wary of Obama in 2008, but I still voted for him then and (like a lot of people) just hoped for the best.
But it was clear to me then that his actual policy positions were just minor shifts of emphasis, and did not ever match his lofty, soaring campaign rhetoric. He was never a Bernie Sanders. He was just a "Hillary Clinton" with a better stump speech (and more manipulative) and good charisma. But I had hoped that he was holding back .. just to get elected.
I knew he was going to be a disaster as soon as the Election was won in November 2008, and he immediately brought back into power Bush's War Secretary (Robert Gates) and WarHawk Hillary Clinton to run the U.S. Foreign Policy. Everybody thought the election had put these people, and this ideology out of power --- why are they back? Then he appointed Wall-Street crooks & insiders to handle the economy (more Bank Bailouts). And he appointed that piece of corrupt garbage Rahm Emanuel to preside over the domestic policy (and Health Care). There was going to be no change, and no hope.
Nothing says "change you can believe in" more than placing into power the very people who created and like these failed policies right from the get go. Talk about a big slap in the face!
I voted for him in 2008
but I knew from th get-go that Obama was an empty suit. His goal was to be president, nothing more. There was no agenda, no issue that was dear to his heart. It was all about ego. That doesn't make him different from most politicians, but his lack of conviction about anything was the perfect bookend to W.
He was the perfect placeholder. Divert with race (recall that even mentioning that Obama is half-white was responded to with derision). Use his inexperience and alleged naivete as the excuse for the full steam ahead approach taken in response to the economic collapse. A more committed and seasoned politician would have used the circumstances to his/her/our advantage.
Wikileaks has shown the answer.
Citigroup told him who to appoint. Then when citi's stock went from $30 to $3, of course they went into overdrive. I wonder how many insiders bought in at $3? The stock closed at $48.60 yesterday.

it looks like. He is the man who produced all those heavily edited videos in the past, that were discredited. I'm reluctant to trust or believe anything he is involved with.
Maybe he was in the past
but the people he's interviewing are BRAGGING about being in the tank for Her Heinous - and trying to bring down Trump.
Won't judge by past, looking to learn more, there are 2 more videos to come.
Wish they all , including Assange - hadn't waited so damn long! Why couldn't Assange had their videos out during the primary.
One more time.
Unfortunately, I've said that more than one time.
But never again. Like many of us, I'm done with the Democrats for good.
Fuck them.
I agree with you completely,
except I can't ethically vote for Trump. I also can't ethically vote for Clinton, either. I'm voting for Jill. I'm under no illusions, but then this stupid state (KS) will go for Trump, you just watch. And, like you, it may be the last election I vote in, as well.

Decentralize protest.
It would take courage, but just get people to make a sign for themselves (or make flyers stickers etc) and stand around in their usual haunts. Enough people making the event ubiquitous. Can't be censored, suppressed or twisted cause it's happening right where people see it themselves. Can't be penned and can't be broken up by flying squads. Can't be infiltrated and steered by protest-Prevention agents.
In accord with the axiom 'First, seize the presses.' I'd propose as slogan: "Mainstream Media: We know you are an enemy of the people."
There'd be few too disagree with that.

I would argue for hounding
those who are complicit with the corruption. Every media person, talking head, comfortable organization head, corrupt politician shouldn't be able to go out in public without being harassed- booed, hissed, yelled at, etc. That's the only real power we haev left.

I was a Democrat since I registered to vote in 1992
I just sent my change of party to Board of Elections a few weeks ago. I'll be a Green next election. My county will vote for Hillary, but my Congressional district will send a Republican back to Congress. The weak Democrat running made the mistake of saying she didn't know what to do about ISIS in a radio interview. Now the commercials with an old white woman saying she didn't like what she said run every commercial break. The Republican calls himself "bi-partisan". He voted with the Republican leadership 80% of the time. The other 20% was stuff everyone was going to vote the same way anyway...I guess that is what passes for "bi-partisan" now...He just got the endorsement of all the Police unions in the area too. He's a former Federal prosecutor, big surprise...

Pardon my butting in
but I feel your pain. I have fgound that I can't read anything without being subjected to the lazy clinton defenses- oh, the emails are not big thing, etc. I find it in Tomasky's utterly banal political reporting in the NYRB, as well as in the NYerweek after week. The formerly leftist press- Harpers, Atlantic, Nation- are lost causes. I wouldn't give them a dime if their existence depended upon it.
Last week, I even encountered it in my college alumni magazine! And I went to one of the liberalist [sic] of the liberal arts colleges. This disregard for good govenrment and the sunshine laws (pillars of the left) are disgusting enough, but the blithe disregard for corruption are beyong the pale. I despair that there are no honorable voices left. (I know this is an exaggeration, but the paucity of reason and ethics is dismaying.)
That's just normal politics....

I think enhydra was suggesting we strike/shutdown everything, clean across the board. And maybe a rolling national strike after that until we 99%ers get the access to decent incomes and empowerment that prior American generations of adults had.
enhydra is, of course, welcome to correct me if I'm wrong......

Gone too
Having worked my entire career in local government, I always thought of myself as being fairly realistic about politics. And we usually knew where our local politicians stood on most issues. So I thought of myself as a realist, but not a cynic. That has changed for me over the last eight years as I watched betrayal after betrayal by Obama. He never even put a facade on what he was doing. And so my cynicism grew. Now with this campaign, there is no going back for me. I am cynical and angry. In the past, I often could find some ray of hope in our government. But I no longer believe that the people running things care one whit about those they are governing. I never thought i would see our country fall so far, so fast.
I am afraid we have lost any window of opportunity to combat climate change. And Hillary does not even care. More and more Americans are falling into poverty and the social safety net will be drastically cut in the next administration. I firmly believe that the next war will be fought worldwide, including on American soil. And in my four plus years of doing Peace vigils, I never met one person who wanted to escalate our current wars. Some defended them, but no one ever wanted more war. It is a very bleak future that this country is facing. There are no miracles out there.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

I agree with you gulfgal
For some reason Obama's betrayals has been the worst of anyone's and that includes Pelosi's when after she promised us that if we put them in power they would roll back the Bush a uses. And the first thing she said was that impeachment was off the table.
Fine, there were a lot of other things they could do to roll back the abuses, but then she said that they were keeping the powder dry.
Dry for what? I kept waiting and waiting and they did nothing.
Then Obama came along and promised us so much, yet delivered little.
His first betrayal was when he voted for the FISA bill after promising to filibuster it. People said that he had to vote for it in order to become president and then he would work on rolling it back.
Instead he expanded it to over 800 private contractors.
I gave up on him after seeing him throw away every one who had helped him get elected and then installed the very same people who crashed the global economy.
He bailed out the banks to a tune of over 16 trillion and did nothing while millions of people lost their homes.
And continued doing nothing even though the banks were breaking the rules while people were trying to save their homes.
Then we find out that while the democrats were playing games with the republicans during the health care debate, he had already made deals with the insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
He continued PNAC's goals in the Middle East, destroyed two countries and is using drones in 7 countries against international law and human decency.
He's helping Saudi Arabia kill thousands of innocent people and lying his ass off about Russia's aggression.
I agree that Hillary is going to finish what Bill started and will destroy social security and start WWWIII, while her supporters sit back and watch.
God help the people in this world if she's elected.

Big man, pig man,
Ha ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel,
Ha ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying "keep on digging"
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find?
When you're down in the pig mine
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Bus stop rat bag,
Ha ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag,
Ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hat pin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Hey you Whitehouse,
Ha ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse,
Ha ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
You gotta stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry.

Well, Late Again...this is gonna blow your mind then.
I was there, and the Roger Waters show was nothing short of transcendent, capping off a mind-blowing weekend.
Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd record and one of my all-time favorite records period. He also played "Pigs On The Wing" and "Dogs", which as you know also is a pretty deep take on the toll capitalism takes on the human condition.
You could feel people gasping and in awe of how he transposed "Pigs" onto the current situation with Trump. But halfway through I thought he should probably lay into Hillary too (and you know he's no fan, especially with her slavish servitude to all things Israel and Roger's heavy advocacy for Palestine). Wonder what that conversation was like, between him and his people/art team, about the proverbial elephant in the room being that Hillary escapes unscathed while he goes over the top to eviscerate Drumpf.
To my mind, Roger Waters continues to be elevated as one of the great activist/advocate musicians willing to use his platform to call attention to injustice. Earlier in the show, for the song "Fearless" from Meddle, the entire song's imagery was of #BlackLivesMatter and other protest signs and ephemera.
"If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

Thank you, Late Again.
I think we're in a transitional moment right now
The Republicans after Goldwater grew more and more racist, while saying they're not racist they're just against crime, handouts, drugs etc etc. Now their candidate is pretty openly racist and many of his supporters are fully openly racist.
The Democrats really can't pretend they're not at least equally responsible for trade deals that enable slave labor and child labor, that their candidate is for fracking and the tar sands pipelines that will destroy people's drinking water, endless wars for oil and everything else. They're saying "well, WE"RE not for that, we'll nominate someone better in the future. We'll hold her accountable, we'll try harder. Promise!" In 20 years, will they tire of the charade, as the GOP has finally, and just admit they're all for child labor and imperialism, and don't care about people's drinking water? I suspect so.
I think it is time to just demand democrats admit that this is what they stand for: child labor, slave labor, enabling the avoidance of environmental regulations via bad trade deals, bombing for oil, ruining people's drinking water. That isn't even half of it. I've taken to telling my "FB friends" that they are for all of this, and they should just own up to it. I'm accepting the "I'm voting for the lesser evil" BS from them anymore.
