Again the Democratic Party Rejects progressives. Chooses DWS.
Well, the primary election has completed here in Florida last night, and as suspected, every progressive candidate in the state that was challenging the Corpocratic Party incumbents were soundly defeated.
This makes my #DemExit now completely justified (as if it wasn't before).
Those "Liberals" in the democratic party will have no ability to shame me for not supporting their candidate because I am no longer in their corrupt little social club as of today. (Decided to wait for filing my party switch to after the Florida primary, but now realized I may as well of not even bothered to wait.)
Progressives, real Progressives, have no more business caucusing with the Democrats than they do the Republicans.
Neither party gives a flaming bag of dog poo about progressivisim outside of paying enough lip service to it to keep the dirty hippies in line...
The Democratic Party is Anti-Democratic, Anti-Progressive and Anti-99%.
I have seen it's evil, and will in no way at all be complicit in it anymore.

if Bernie couldn't be bothered to campaign with Canova...
then I can't be bothered to believe in "Our Revolution".
I'm working on something about computerized voting,
and it starts, "My preferred candidate lost last night, by a country mile. Or did he?"
I simply do not trust elections in this country, especially in Florida.
Had to give you a thumbs up
for "especially in Florida." I don't trust Ohio as far as I can throw it, either.
And So. Carolina? They stay on permanently rigged status.
Our Revolution
reorganized itself as a 501 (c) (3), is that right?, just at the time when Canova was asking for help with his campaign. They just couldn't wait for two weeks or so. A number of people at Our Revolution quit in protest; I think they were interviewed at Democracy Now.
Ms. "I don't get protested" will be back in Congress, and Our Revolution is tainted before it even gets off the ground. At least now we know who were the likely corporate Dem. plants in the Sanders campaign.
Add Canova and Greyson to the list of good and capable people who have been disrespected this year by the Democratic Party. Adm. Joe Sestack. Rep. Donna Edwards. An so on.

The differences are subtle, but real.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
That is a district that was
That is a district that was jerrymandered for Shultz. Bernie never did well there, either. I didn't get my hopes up over Canova.
my thoughts on why Bernie didn't campaign for Canova
the sequence of events went like this:
emails confirm Debbie was cheating for Hillary
Debbie ousted as head of DNC to avoid howls at the convention
Debbie immediately hired by Hillary for campaign
this put Debbie under Hillary's protection, a la the mob. Bernie, for whatever reason, going all "fear Trump! Never mind what I said about Hillary who, by the way, agrees with me about everything that's important", knowing that Debbie is protected, can't go all in for Canova because that would imply Hillary is something less than perfect.
As we've all seen, there are places where you can't suggest that Hillary has any flaws. Bernie became part of that, to where he's become irrelevant.
Short version: Bernie would seem to be anti-Hillary and that's just not allowed!
?? I'm confused. For months I've read how DWS runs in a
'safe' district' and that Canova couldn't win anyway. And Grayson and his 'divorce' didn't help any. Personally I began to think of him as quite the creep.
I gotta laugh. People are blaming Sanders when the only people responsible are in Florida. If the vote was rigged, that's the DNC in Florida. If he lost fair and square, Canova lost because he didn't draw enough voters. That's on him. NO ONE ELSE.

Dear Bernie Bros: Trying to Defeat Debbie Wasserman Schultz Is Just Plain Stupid
*
This argument is about the fact that Canova has very little shot of beating Wasserman Schutz, and given the enormous number of other, more realistic opportunities for progressives to make a statement in Florida during this election cycle, spending time and money on Canova's windmill chase seems pointless.
This is about the kind of electoral common sense anyone with half a poli-sci degree could give you.
Let's look at the facts:
1. Hillary Clinton won 72 percent of the primary vote in Broward and almost 75 percent of the primary vote in Miami-Dade. There aren't exactly a lot of people down here who were feeling the Bern, and it's unlikely that a candidate who has so closely aligned himself with Sanders will catch on in the district.
2. DWS is an expert fundraiser with lots of favors to call in and deep connections in her district. She has a solid record on the issues that people in her district care about most and has already been endorsed by President Obama. There's been no public polling of the race so far (and likely won't be much), but there's not much indication Democrats in her districts are particularly itching to kick her out. Everyone hates Congress but loves their congresswoman after all.
*
The targeting of Wasserman Schultz seems petty. It seems more about payback than political reality. It seems, at times, misogynistic. It seems, frankly, like something the Tea Party would pull. It seems like the kind of thing a mature netroots movement should be above.
If you're serious about sending a strong progressive message that could truly shake up politics in Florida, there are much better ways to do it.

The author of that piece comes off as an arrogant

A. I disagree with him fundamentally
and
B. I don't like being condescended to by people who haven't got the necessary intellectual firepower.

Bernie did not reply to Canova's reach-out before primary
People will interpret this differently depending on what you think happened to Bernie. But there it is...

Jordan and I are gonna disagree about e-mails/fundraising
I donated via Bernie then another time via Canova's website. My e-mail became a spiggot for constant begging for money, sometimes 2-3 times a day. I finally had to tell the campaign's digital outreach (via an e-mail) they needed a message, not just money. It's not the way to run a campaign. I don't want to hear they need a lot of money, especially as he sent Bernie's professionals home after 2 weeks.
Bernie's wife, Jane, tweeted on Canova's behalf and a few others. He had more money than most candidates running who were virtually unknown. Jordan and Canova can't blame it on Bernie.
One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will. To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.--Tennyson
He had an obvious, clear message.
Maybe it didn't resonate with that district, maybe he ran out of money, maybe it was rigged. I can't say, although it's hard to imagine Hillary's BFF's job being left to something as chancy as the voters' will.
His message was an anti-corruption message. Which resonates really well in most places, but might not resonate so well in a place filled with upper middle class. Most of the people in my class don't appear to understand that we're next. Dumbasses.
As for Bernie, his no-show is not helpful. But much less helpful is how his campaign proved that primary challenges to the Clinton machine can't work because of unchallenged election fraud. The fraud was so blatant most people could see it. Good luck trying to convince a majority of them to go to the polls and try to unseat Clintonites through primaries now.

Among other things, since at least 1972, Democratic voters have
been propagandized that liberals lose general elections to Republicans. So, if voters in Democratic primaries hope to defeat Republicans in the general, they'd best defeat liberals in primaries. Early on in the primary, when I approached people about Sanders, I heard "I love Bernie, but...McGovern..." again and again. (And Democrats accuse Republican voters of voting against what they really want and need!)
In addition, the DNC and Democratic stumping stars support incumbents (who are almost all centrists now) and centrists in primaries and Democratic officeholders endorse centrists, too. Finally, we can't discount "irregularities" at the polls in at least some towns and cities.
i think that line of argument ...
... has worked particularly well among the older folk who remember McGovern. It's a hard argument to knock down. At a time when we need to be more courageous to reverse the trendline started in 1972 with Nixxon, then Raygun, too many people think they can escape riding the status quo.
I wish I knew how to reach these people with a series of short, targeted messages that essentially say "status quo is unsustainable".
2008 disproved that line of thinking--
so they had to spin spin spin Obama's win, emphasizing the fact that he actually is a centrist (true) while ignoring the fact that he ran left of Clinton as well as left of McCain.
The people who don't know at this point are the people who don't want to know.

I got that argument from people of all ages. Factually, it's bs.
Factually, it's bs. However, any message that has been drummed in over 40 years with little to no push back is hard to dislodge. Fortunately, I had prepared and did manage to swing some of those people to Sanders with facts.
Not to be ageist, but
it's really REALLY annoying to have my political future controlled by a trauma that happened to my parents' generation when I was 4 years old.

i hear you ...
... up to now, it's been the reliability of the older vote vs the unreliability of the younger vote. I'm really, really hoping that younger people stay woke now that we boomers are shuffling off stage.
I will say the Vietnam-Nixon trauma of that generation was pretty deep. Probably even deeper than what's going on right now, if you can believe it.
Wow, looks like I had some deep-seated irritation on this point!
Sorry, fred, my response to you turned into a rant, which wasn't really directed at you! Apparently I've been frustrated for some time, and didn't realize it. I've removed it from here, because it would be better as a diary.

And at least half the country and media voices backing the government and saying we had it coming?
That was traumatic and radicalized many people who up till then might have trusted the government and/or considered themselves apolitical.
