Sanders made America distrust Hillary

So says Neera Tanden, 'a longtime Clinton confidante and influential policy-politics-communications adviser' who leads Center for American Progress.

From POLITICO

Meet Hillary Clinton's anger translator

In an interview for POLITICO's 'Off Message' podcast, longtime Clinton confidante Neera Tanden sounds off on Bernie Sanders' attacks, the 2016 election coverage and Vladimir Putin.

Here's the podcast audio:

So, here are the victim narratives being put forward:

On Sanders:

“He did do significant damage to Hillary's negatives,” she added. “I mean, he drove a lot of those negatives, and the truth of it, I mean, just to be candid — or honest about it, I think getting those kinds of attacks from another Democrat or another liberal or another progressive is much tougher for Hillary. … If you look at her trust numbers the last six months of that primary, it was much— those numbers took a much sharper dive and hard to recover from.”

Those pesky Russians:

But the thing that worries her (Tanden) most long-term is the reported meddling by Russian leader Vladimir Putin in U.S. internal politics, amid reports that Moscow was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee on the eve of the late-July convention in Philadelphia. The revelation that DNC staffers had coordinated activities with the Clinton campaign resulted in the forced resignation of Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a polarizing figure Brooklyn was glad to see go. The leak, Tanden said, was clearly designed to spur an unstoppable insurrection among Sanders supporters geared to help Trump.

Puh-leese - as if any of them actually believe the boogeyman they've put up to scare America.

She takes that line a step further:

“Look at [Putin-funded cable channel] RT, Russia Today. The amount of time they spend propping up the third parties in the United States, the amount of time they spend attacking Hillary, and in ways that are just very aligned with the arguments of the Trump campaign," she said. "Russia has a history of playing in European politics. And we should not be surprised if they are attempting to do the same here.”

EDIT:

My theory? They're setting up the excuses in case she loses just as we all predicted she would use. She does yammer a bit about October surprises.

I found this interesting:

I was really taken with how the Wikileaks email right ahead of the convention played with the psychology of Sanders' supporters and others - obviously, what happened at the DNC was outrageous and stupid and I'm glad they've taken a series of steps to change that all throughout the organization -but didn't actually show any evidence of, like, changing votes or anything (laughter), and yet we live in such a cynical time that people do just believe the worst...

She says that Russian financing far right groups is a thing - seems pretty weak. "I'm not saying it's a conspiracy," she says. She thinks it's weird that people on the left are denying that Putin may be interfering.

Apparently fear of the Middle East isn't big enough to get America reliably in line behind Hillary Clinton. Funny, that.

Either that or they have nothing, lol, and it shows?

Who hires other professional liars to lie for her....but, hey, Neera has bills to pay and has to feed her family too...would have loved to hear her take on the voter suppression and election fraud during the primary and why her gal Hillary had such a hard time against a 74 year old socialist from a teeny state? Or why she and her state parties and her election voting machine company donors had to work so feverishly to steal the nomination from the rightful winner, Bernie Sanders...gotta love democrats..we just had the biggest theft by democrats in a presidential primary in my 60 years and I read a headline on the democratic underground today that those damned republicans are trying to disenfranchise millions....and the outrage is palpable...but disenfranchising fellow democrats across the country must be the new 'cool'.

And what the hell are they thinking? And now Bernie is going to speak at a WFP Sept annual dinner? I thought he was too busy writing a book to bother with any politics? Who wants to volunteer to splain this to #TimCanova Hahahha.

The state Working Families Party’s recent endorsement of Hillary Clinton hasn’t ended its love affair with her Democratic primary opponent, Bernie Sanders.

I pity some of them, but really, anybody who supports Hillary at this point is not trustworthy. I know that statement is gonna upset some people, but it's just the truth. They might be good, decent people who have their reasons for getting on their knees, but it's quite obvious what Hillary Clinton is.

You can't work for reform and support someone like that.

I've got about four diaries to write:

1)More Vote Pact!
2)The need for a ministerial activism
3)My friend Nina Illingworth is getting shadowbanned by Twitter. The desperate need for a secure indie media.
4)A big, currently vague outline of what I'd want a social justice movement to look like, which hopefully would become less vague as I wrote. This one is ongoing in the back of my head.

So I'd really rather not waste a diary spelling out why anybody who supports Hillary--I'm talking Visible People now, people with organizations, people with fame, people who get in the news--can't be part of the work of social justice at this point.

of all the countries where the US has interfered with the elections of foreign governments, the governments themselves, the bribes, the sanctions, the wars, etc. From the early fifties when the US was channeling money to right-of-center French parties and including the Corsican Guerini gang mob to weaken the Communists running the docks in Marseilles, or to dampen Communist gains in post-war Italy. To control elections in Lebanon in the fifties and sixties. The various coups in Vietnam. The bloody coup and aftermath in Indonesia in 1965. The money to influence Australian elections. It goes on and on. Or, for that matter, the coup in the US in 1963. On and on.

the Clinton/Democratic defense is going to be that the emails are "Russian fabrications" and they are going to Dan Rather Assange and Wikileaks for offering falsified evidence.

This is going to go deep into the metadata woods. Americans will have no idea who to believe, which will be the point.

OK, but they have two problems. 1)Most of America wouldn't believe Hillary Clinton if she said the sun was going to come up tomorrow, 2)This is a really pathetically obvious lie, for anybody who isn't already revved up about the Red Menace/Russia/Putin. And those who are revved up to fight the Commies pretty much hate Hillary Clinton and have for 30 years. That won't go away with the timely application of some retread of 1980s anti-Communist propaganda.

Democrats new warning: Leaks could include Russian lies

Democratic strategists say the party would be wise to trumpet warnings about faked leaks as it braces for the possibility of hackers releasing damaging information about Clinton or other candidates close to Election Day. Preemptively casting doubt on the leaks may be easier now than trying to mount a full response days before voters go to the polls.

It's interesting, is it not, that we are being warned about faked leaks even before the leaks themselves? It makes you think that they know stuff so awful is coming that their only recourse will be to cast doubt as to authenticity. Kind of like a philandering spouse prepping for their revealment by saying "Honey, you might get some phone calls and letters and photos telling you I'm having an affair, but it's all lies! I was separated at birth from my identical twin."

I guess this is the plan of attack for the Wikileaks stuff, but they won't be able to deploy that defense on the 15,000 recovered emails provided by the FBI.

But even given how much they seem to want a third world war between us and Russia, this is a weird, ham-handed narrative to use. Even China would probably be better; at least the public has heard the words "Chinese hackers" before, and at least the public understands, albeit in general terms, that China is an economic threat of sorts to the US (though I see it more as a shark/ramorrah eel kind of thing).

But point being, trying to retread old Cold War memes looks about as convincing as trying to sell me a Studebaker.

is meant for Boomers and Gen-Xers (and remaining Silents and Greatests), so Hill is talking here, via surrogate, to all of us over 40. It's not working real well, as far as I can tell, on Gen X, but then most of us who weren't Republicans didn't buy the Red Menace meme even when the Reds could be argued to be a menace. And those of us who were Reagan Republicans in the 80s--who are possibly the audience she's trying to reach with this shit--hate the Clintons' guts, and have for many years.

I'm sure there's a minority of my generation that is responding as Team Clinton would like to this meme, mainly because there's always some people who will follow any meme that's pushed hard enough, if it agrees with enough of their preconceptions. But it's not going over big, I can tell you that.

So to those of you who are older: does this shit work on any of your generation? Any who aren't already voting for Trump, anyway (and now it occurs to me that she's also attempting to peel off some Trump support with this "Trump supports Putin, I fight the Red Menace" stuff, but that's gonna work even less well than wooing the Reagan Republicans).

Is this meme appealing to the Boomer generation (and those older), in general? (I don't mean folks here at caucus99, who obviously don't buy this sort of facile shit). What's you guys' impression?

As a Boomer, what I see is fear and resignation. The media focuses only on Trumps' lies and recklessness -- not at all on Clinton's lies and willingness to subvert the electoral process. I don't think that my generation is so foolish as to believe all the nonsense coming from the Clinton campaign and the DNC. But I do think they have bought into the media-generated fear of Trump so completely that they can't get beyond a near hysterical sense that all must unite to beat Trump -- no matter what. And Bernie has fed into that desperation in surrendering -- for fear of Trump-- and asking folks not to vote for Jill Stein.

The boomer generation has also founded itself on its faith identity politics -- with little analysis or understanding of how neoliberalism undermines all that. The sense that there will at least be social justice for Blacks and for women seems to be where they take comfort in the face of realizing there's deep deception and lies on HRC's side -- and that she is a war hawk.

They selectively forget the super predators comments and remember the speeches to Black churches made in some pseudo dialect that should be a turnoff to the congregations she is addressing. They forget sending the children back to Central America and remember the show of unity with old-time Hispanic leaders. They are often genuinely unaware that Blacks, Hispanics and women under 40 were all with Bernie.

They also don't want to believe that the election was actually stolen, nor that the reason for Hillary's private server was directly connected to shielding the antics of the Clinton Foundation. Perhaps seeing all this too clearly is too much to bear. It's so much easier to say, "Well at least she isn't Trump."

I began to see the psychopath in hillary when the sleazy duo first appeared in the white palace. When they were stomping on the backs of the people with their crime bills and dismantling the safety net. When Vince Foster was murdered, and all the paper was missing from his office. When, with Monica Lewinsky, some the women harmed by Billary began to speak.
I had a friend from Arkansas, who told true horror stories about the corruption, the drugs, the women, the sleazy $$--things that happened long before the white palace.
Also, impossible to ignore the warmongering as sec state. Even more impossible to ignore is her perpetual lying.
I 'mistrust' hillary because of hillary.
The only way one could trust hillary is if one were wholly ignorant. As more of her secrets are exposed, fewer people trust her. Nothing to do with Bernie.

Ha ha Neera, LONG before I heard of the man Bernie Sanders, I had already mistrusted and disliked the woman named Hillary. Bernie had nothing to do with that, other than giving me someone's cause to believe in and volunteer for.

I keep getting these e-mails surveys asking if I'll vote for HRC. I keep saying no, but won't say who I do plan to vote for. Don't want to give them any cause to go after another honest candidate who may get more votes! (I'm in the NeverHillary camp in case it isn't obvious!)

Did anyone catch the Boston Public Radio show today on WGBH Boston? They were speaking of the election, and had Shannon O'Brien, unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate (against Mitt Romney) as one of the panelists, who seems to be their in house Dem lackey and perennial Clinton apologist. Oh, she had all the talking points down-- when the hosts (Marjorie Eagan and some guy filling in for Jim Braude) brought up issues of Clinton's unlikability, her scandals, the email thing-- it was always someone else's fault, the repubs going after her for 30 years, the Clinton Foundation was a Fairy Godmother of benevolence and philanthropy, helping women and children throughout the world (not, however, in Yemen, among other countries), etc etc ad nauseum. And she never missed an opportunity to slime Jill (and Bernie) as well as their supporters, even referring to them at one point as 'these people,' 'these people' who didn't understand politics and were angry, and didn't understand how to 'get things done,' as HRC did/does (like regime change, e.g.?) and that both candidates (BS and JS) had 'good ideas' but had no idea how to implement them-- same bullcrack they said about Bernie early on, especially on TOP. I wanted to reach into the radio and box her ears!!!!! And of course it all went unchallenged. These people (heh) are so tied into the system, so part of the establishment, so glib and removed from the reality of the average American-- for God sakes, Massachusetts was a virtual tie (if in fact Bernie didn't win it) and here she is blithely dismissing half the voters of her state as
'these people.' One of course is disgusted, and has been, by repub behavior since Reagan, but, my God, the Dem establishment makes my blood boil-- they should know better. They have betrayed us, and we the people are 'these people' to them. Unreal!
