Jill Stein CNN Townhall Discussion Thread
Edited after the livestream:
I saw that this thread was moved to the front page so I wanted to be sure that ones who had missed it could find coverage.
update Friday 8/19: Found this easy list of clips from townhall posted at reddit r/jillstein

preview for townhall on cnn (some audio missing):
Jill and Ajamu talking on fb to watch parties after townhall:
Presidential candidate Jill Stein and her vice presidential running mate Ajamu Baraka made political history Wednesday night as the first Green party candidates to participate in an hour-plus town hall meeting on primetime network television.
The third party candidate also went on to address a growing concern in the current political climate. When one audience member asked her if she would feel guilty if she potentially split the Democratic vote and helped secure a Trump presidency, she responded, “I will have trouble sleeping at night if Donald Trump is elected. I will also have trouble sleep at night if Hillary Clinton is elected.”
Stein went on to bash both candidates, saying, “Donald Trump is bashing these immigrants and is a xenophobic, racist loudmouth,” and delving into Hillary Clinton’s history of supporting wars in the Middle East.
If I find anything else about it, I'll add it here.

It only stands to reason
that if a person can get on the ballot in the majority of the states then they should be invited to the debates.
Why do we allow only two parties to control the entirety of the Presidential Election Debates. It seems counterintuitive to democracy.

-by asking "Do you mean ROBBING people of their vote? Do you mean THEFT?"
-And ditto on Tim Kaine. Anti-choice puck-head. Noticed that "centrist" is about ALL the MSM will say about him.
Also important to keep in mind that their meaning of centrist, means in the center of their insanely far-Right world view, where anyone to the Left of Joseph Goebbels might as well be a space alien. So yeah, by that measure, he's a centrist.

question: what are you doing to win sanders supporters?
Jill: you've learned why you can't have revolutionary campaign in a counter-revolutionary party. playing field unfairly tilted. voting irregularities. dnc colluding behind closed doors to smear sanders. unfair. hillary is courting republicans. appointed centrist vp. didn't allow sanders' spokespeople at convention. all the work you did and blood sweat and tears lives on...bernie even said "movement not a man"
our campaign has been here from the start as plan 'b' for revolution. we'll continue to build it until we prevail.

Ajamu: troubling issues
'I wanted to feel the bern' I saw possibility to expand scope of conversation such as 'democratic socialism' but troubled by we can't deal a progressive policy from American standpoint only. Saudi hands dripping with blood. Bernie needed to understand the american people ready for a real progressive candidate and address issues such as drone.
question: why didn't you say that instead of what you said
I wanted him to deal with the contradictions. we have to disconnect personalities from policies. progressive issues go beyond what bernie was saying. other serious questions being raised. don't dismiss critiques.
if you only look at US when saudis are involved in killing black and brown around the world
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when we are afraid of the light.

question: Isis threat?
Jill talking about cost of war: failed states, mass migrations, isis growing out of Iraq; al qaeda grew out of afghanistan; has been ill conceived plan backfiring against us. need new offensive in middle east. our wars are fanning flames of terrorism. (applause)
wants peace offensive. we can initiate weapons embargo, freeze funds to groups supporting terror. saudis still major funder. we and our allies can shut it down
Something wrong that us has more military bases worldwide than total of other countries combined
Half of income tax going to regime changes
our presumption is to close bases and shut down weapons systems like F5 and new generation of nuclear weapons
(applause)
Ajamu: assumption that we can respond militarily to all threats. can't talk about isis threat and not look at policies that grow isis. look critically at policies by bush and obama that created our current problems with military action. need to be critical of militarism.

question: do you believe in god?
I am currently in mixed family and don't practice religion but aware of spiritual moral fabric and gives me faith in other people and our capacity to be more than the sum of our parts. I carry on spirit from way back when.
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when we are afraid of the light.
--Plato
It was an obnoxious question,
To which she gave an excellent answer. But I have a question for the questioner; what do you mean when you say "god", and what do you mean when you say "believe"?
yes
don't attempt to answer questions loaded with undefined terms . . .
and they never seem to be able to define all the terms when you ask them to do so (unless a lot of handwaving and begging the question counts as a definition).
Vaccines: Do you support them?
Jill: That statement about schedule was taken out of context. At one time was concern about mercury. There were questions at that time but ingredient has been taken out now and is no longer an issue.
I do not oppose vaccines. Look at books I co-authored. Avail on web for free. Conditions that may be contributing to developmental issues etc. science geeks can see i'm a science geek as well and ask questions as needed.

CNN Dirty Trick #692
She totally freaking called CNN out on their question as a distraction. I'm glad they asked it. I'm glad she got a chance to set the record straight. And quite eloquently I might add.
I have been seeing all over the webz the spread of that meme. Now I can direct anyone who says that to an excerpt of this Town Hall.
The people, united, will never be defeated.
question about feminism
Jill: being a feminist has a lot to do with nurturing out children, equal rights, but also being part of community, we want to take care of people. not compatible with JUST taking care of your own private family. should deliver just future for all women to take care of their families. clintons destroyed safety net and put more children into poverty, loss of 9 mil jobs lower income and POC, and war that HRC was engine behind, risks wars and not compatible with my view of feminism for all families
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when we are afraid of the light.

? How will you sleep at night if trump gets in
Jill: I will be troubled by Trump and Clinton. HRC supports wars that killed 1 million people. Dems party of deportation. includes refugees from honduras where hrc supported coup. dems support detention of immigrants. hrc threatening air war.
trump disturbing but hrc concerning too. politics of fear has track record. what has that delivered. all those reasons to vote for lesser evil has gotten us exactly what we were voting against. vote for greater good not lesser evil
can you win?
Jill: not possible to win with 2 corporately supported people. we are not winning. not enough diff between 2 parties to save your jobs etc. student loan debt: we will canx debt and when that gets heard, we can end up the top dog
43 million locked into student debt. we don't have a future to offer our younger gen. nothing to lose and everything to gain by standing up for courage of convictions.
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when we are afraid of the light.

Jackass they just had on screams Clinton Stalwart.
Was so obvious he wanted to get out his Contracted bon mot, and CNN even let him REPEAT IT when he flubbed his line.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
how do you wipe out student debt?
It was easy for banks to repay the loans. they get the money at 0% and loan it at 7%. young people don't have an economy to earn enough to pay it back. Fed reserve buys debt and declares null and void. young people can then instead pay those dollars into the economy.
1.3 trillion.

he was there
Policing
emcee: The focus on bad policing over-rides high crime rates. BLM bring attention but you're refusing to discuss real issues.
Ajamu: real issue is oppression. young people bring light to issue of war being brought on POC. daily basis consequences of individuals and departments using violence against their own citizens. war being waged against black people in this country. system of oppression with police being front line. we have to deal with it. we have colonized territories with police acting like a military force. in larger economy we have become problem people; way to deal with them is to incarcerate and kill them. americans need to deal with this.

Ok, final impression:
CNN moderator had an obvious agenda to try to get as many soundbites as possible for Clinton Operatives to aim for.
Obvious Clinton Plants in the Audience were Obvious.
More attention payed to Stein's Running mate than paid to either of the main party candidates.
Dr. Stein deserves more respect than this. She was incredibly powerful up there, and tossed back everything with more spin on it than Clinton Can handle.
If She gets in the debates, she's gonna MOP THE FLOOR with Clinton and Trump, and they know it.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Good observations!
Oh, god, I would love to get her up to 15% to get on that stage at debate!

It was as if Dr. Stein had Wonder Woman's bracelets on.
She knew what station she was on. She could easily guess what kind of questions would be asked. AND! She had answers for every one of them.
I could tell she was nervous at first. But once she settled into her passion for the The New Green Deal (TNGD) there was no stopping her.
Upon learning she was in the band "Somebody's Sister" I immediately thought 'screw you Bill Clinton and your saxophone'.

Stein and Baraka on Democracy NOW this morning
may be it helps you to get over your "confusions" about Baraka.
I am an outsider, didn't follow yesterday's townhall meeting and didn't read through your comments. Frankly, I don't want to.
I have no problems to support Stein AND Ajamu Baraka. I found it interesting to see today the connections of Baraka and Stein already in mid to end nineties to the struggle of today's native American fight against the pipelines.
Today's Show with Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.
As an outsider to me it's interesting to see that there is so much critical thinking about Baraka. Kinda ... well, I don't want to be impolite, but to me it doesn't sound convincing at all.
