Openly Eccentric - Open Thread 8/14/2016
Good Sunday Morning, and may your morning be as pleasant as the best moment from the night before.
Of course, there's a lot of questioning about what will be happening with the site, but that's a little above my pay grade. I understand all of the reasons and the proposed solutions but the decision is firmly out of my hands on this one, therefore I'll concentrate on the positive and what I can do to make this place the best I can.
So, 2nd Portland Meetup On Saturday!
Lucky Lab, Portland OR. Noon. Look forward to seeing friends old and new, and will be enjoying taking fun and worthwhile memories in picture form. This time though, I'm getting Nachos.
Just so folks know, no matter what happens, I'm not giving up writing. This place has freed my muse and I have no intent of shoving her back out the door and claiming that it's not a good time.

So, the same week that our DEA decided Not to get with the 21st century, Australia did the exact opposite. No, it's not perfect, but it's officially OFF the Australian Federal Government's Shoot on Sight list, and on more of their, "Ya got a Permit for that, mate?" list, but it's improvement.
Hillary's big Donor the Saudis killed 10 kids... Nothing new, I know, they continue to do it every day, a continuation of the policies we continue by propping up the Saudis...
Castro turned 90. Yep, America's favorite boogeyman for over 60 years now. I sometimes cringe at the thought of what would have happened if any of our current crop of neo-libs had been in control during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I don't think I probably would have ever existed, which is a scary thought...
Poor Canada. Costco is beating the pants off Walmart, but Walmart has decided that Canadians have too many good jobs that they would like to destroy in order to continue their dream of global economic domination... BWAHAHAHHAHAAH! Sorry, whenever I think of a Wally World exec I picture him in a stovepipe hat, monocle, Cape, and twirling a mustache...

And some music for you Sunday, and ones that I greatly enjoy.
First up is a Composition by one of my Friends, Tony Manfredonia. He's a young composer, and does a lot of stuff for video games, but also engages in some incredibly interesting works that sound like 20-30's Film Scores. (yes, it's not my usual Sunday Metal, but today, I felt more like something new.)

Secondly is in keeping with that feel of older style stuff, I decided To toss in a little lighter Folk Metal. Eluveitie again, but no growl like last time. I promise.

For those of us alone, this could be a curse. No biggie, the pup will poop on the carpet again today. Guaranteed.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I know they can be a pain,
but honestly I really wish that I could have a puppy around to poop on my carpet. At this point I would welcome the opportunity to help another living being make it through the day.
From what I read, mxp, you are interesting to other residents
and food-complaining. A natural-born community organizer! Unionization, next. Regards.

Ack, sorry, Just assume everybody has more of a life...
than I do. That of course may be a side effect of hearing lots of great stories from friends online about what they're doing Saturday night.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Thanks for the open thread = )
I so wanted to share this, and there hasn't been a really good place all day. This is an especially good edition of Redacted Tonight. Watch for Camp's Freudian slip when talking about HRC.

Whoa... well, not as if it's undeserved...
At the same the rhetoric on the major parties front hasn't been much different from that.

There are so many good quotes
From this piece, I'm going to need a list. I remember when the Daily Show used to be considered edgy. Seems like money and influence serves as a very effective antidote to uncensored dialogue. Even with the places we used to trust.
Thanks for sharing.

Good morning, dmw, and
everybody. Thank you for the Open Thread.
I just ran into this little video. Only 16 seconds long. A sweet, Sunday morning video:
video
Hmm, the video is not playing back for me. If it doesn't work, I think you can see it here.
I was able to view it, OL.
Cats are the best!
Good morning, everyone!
"The “jumpers” reminded us that one day we will all face only one choice and that is how we will die, not how we will live." Chris Hedges on 9/11
More than welcome.
Well, I have ONE job around here... and this is it.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
For a minute there I thought
Kitty caught the little jumping man. Lol. Cute

It's pretty funny when cats are better judges!
Dogs are as well, humanized ones recognize "normal" weirdness but freak out out at abnormal. Watch some time.

g'mornin', dmw, thanks for the OT. Still getting it together here.
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Good morning.
I'm up after a decent night's sleep, so happy to have a lazy sunday before the real work begins with my kids and getting ready for school week after next.

Whoops! This undermines the message
...not to worry, it won't get any play:

Well, clearly in that case...

BTW: If you haven't seen it yet, Billy West has been doing an entire series of Trump quotes said by his character Zapp Brannigan, who is a walking stereotype of everything awful about establishment military/politicians.

Never Give Up, Never Surrender :D
This place is awesome and I believe that JtC will get the help they need to keep this things going.
I'll see some of you peeps here in Beervana on Saturday.

What's beervana?
is that the meet up? I'll be there. I too think cc99% will come through and we can hire Johnny. Dallas Doc is amazing and so is this community.
Beervana is another name of many for Portland by Beer Nerds :)
I'm not into beer. I'm into fresh, homemade cocktails. Like my blood orange margaritas.

I am near the other coast, but those look yummy!

Good morning DMW
and all you cc99%'ers. The heat wave broke sometime during the night. Here in Portland the last four days were hot and humid. The high 90's and Friday was 105. Today the high is going to be 85 which is about as hot as I can handle and be outside. My garden seems to like this blast of hot. It was great to wake up to clean cool air wafting in the open window.
Saturday night? I live right off a main street called Hawthorne which is jumping every Saturday night. Last night after dark I walked down to the store and I enjoyed the street life. All of the young and old one's were out walking and everybody was happy as it was cooler. Still it felt like waking in soup. We don't get the noise from the bars and clubs as were no on the corner. Something fun about walking in the dark.
I have been ignoring the politics for a few days . It's just to heavy to wallow in them as their really is nothing good about what happening right now. Think that I'll focus on life and regular people. If there is such a thing. Today I'm taking a long walk as being holed up in my office next to the cool box is constricting.
A little night music for the morning.
We love Hawthorne :)
We are heading down to Enchanted Forest we are all way too old for it but it's nice to let our Inner Child out along with our Inner Wolves. Just a chill, laid back day is what we are all wanting. Plus it's a nice uphill walk the entire park... LOL
But.. there is a water log ride so I'm sure me and the kids (23 & 21) will be getting back in line for that one over and over.
Hope to see you Saturday Shz
"Love One Another" ~ George Harrison
A chill day sounds good
I think we'll walk over to Laurelhurst park and then on to Music Millennium a local music store. Tonight Shah and a friend are playing an acoustic set down the street at The Ranger Station a small pleasant bar, club, restaurant. After 30 years being with a musician I don't like going to see his band in big clubs and dive bars. We can walk down to this place and I won't be stuck there until two in the morning. Just his guitar and no equipment to pack up. The log ride sounds really good. I thought about you this week and wished I was on a river in a Kayak or a canoe .The city is no place to be when it's this hot and muggy.
i like
how the scrub jays make this sweet little questioning happy noise when they are bathing in the birdbaths and the metal pails. I keep going out there to Look at them, even though it is hotter than Venus.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7SYGesvzwo]
Scrub jays are incredibly smart birds.
They hold funerals, cache food, and have some of the coolest family dynamics among animals.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
yes
I had one as a "pet" for about 12 years. Twice he warned us about impending fire. Because he was part of the family. And, in the wild, that's one of the scrub jay's jobs: to let everyone around know about the Dangers.
Never had enough space for a pet Scrubby...
(It's what my kids call em. I like it.)
They're very free spirited birds and while they seem to like our feeders they still are very wary of people.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
this
guy—Admiral Bean—tumbled out of the nest at a very young age. And so thought he was a person. Or that people were him. Same thing. ; )
With the wild ones, try peanuts. Peanuts in the shell, they find irresistible. I put them on the front-porch railing, and the jays sail down to get them, even if I am sitting there. Once they determine you won't kill them, they can get pretty bold. They also then send the word out to the other animals, that the big weird animal, he does not seem to be a total Danger, and so then the other creatures, they will creep closer, too.
Hard-boiled eggs: these, too, cannot be resisted.
ha! Local Portland Democrats just as awful
http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2016/08/multnomah_county_de...
"Scuffle breaks out at Multnomah County Democratic Party HQ, prompting police response"
So some Bernie people, trying to work with the local Dems, went to the meeting, asked that the agenda be amended and were told "no". Frustration set in.
check it out. It's funny in a sad way.
Ugh... Looks like It's a Pirate's Life for me...
Supposedly the Green and Pirate parties both have a local presence, so I just need to find it now.
Our Senator is pissing me off a bit, but as I've only been here a year, I will hold off on the criticism, since he's LIGHTYEARS ahead of DIFI and Boxer. (Which ain't saying much I admit)
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
