Biggest Falsehood Hillary Told in Her DNC Acceptance Speech

Hillary Clinton said, in her acceptance speech at the DNC convention the following: “America is great because America is good.” She couldn't be more wrong, as I explain in my latest video posted at my YouTube Channel:

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfefJ-G4cM0]

The United States achieved greatness not because of the good things we did in the world, or the grand principles on which our Republic was established, but came as a result of the great evils our nation perpetrated throughout its history, such as genocide, slavery, Jim Crow, the rapacious robber barons of the Gilded Age, and our numerous military interventions overseas on behalf of American business interests.

If we truly want to be a good nation, we need to give up this delusion that greatness and goodness are necessarily related. For the most part throughout our history, our greatness was accomplished at the expense of the high moral values we expound. The 20 million people around the world who are estimated to have been killed as a result of military and other interventions by our government in 37 countries since the end of WWII is evidence of that truth.

We will become a good nation and not just a great one, only when we change our corrupt political duopoly, where our two major parties are both owned by Billionaires and multinational corporations, parties whose politicians do the bidding of the few at the expense of the many. Until we change that, we may be great, but it will be a greatness that is harmful to our future and the future of the world at large.

is that we sometimes learn from our biggest mistakes - after we have tried everything else. As someone from the South who lost nearly my entire generation of ancestors due to being on the wrong side of the Civil War, where they were farmers, not fighters, and most died in prison camps from infectious disease - may I say we stumble toward the greatness that was promised in our founding documents. Kicking and screaming is the rule most of the time. Yet when we do move forward, it is a beautiful thing. It starts, however with a lot of people making noise and being rude and offensive. Or at least, that will be how it is described.

America is great because America is good.
America is good because America is great.

In logical fallacy terms, are statements that considered circular reasoning or begging the question or something else?

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

Goodness and greatness!!! We are founded on Indian land.

Genocide against innocents, things like that don't seem to bother Hillary much.

Course, in WW2, we also paper over the fact that we treated the Japanese, even those that fought and died for us, as second class citizens, and stole much of what they had.
Course, California would NEVER admit to it, but the in my old home town compare pictures of Monterey before and after WW2, and the ethnic cleansing in the fishing industry in particular is heartbreaking.

The theft of Mexican land for one.

The occupation of the Philippines for another.

Along with the usual. Slavery and Jim Crow. Genocide of the Native Americans. Vietnam.

America is "great" only because it has the world's largest and most technically sophisticated military and the dominant currency in the world.

That's a pretty shallow (and hollow) "greatness" if you ask me.

This was one of your best videos. IMHO, being good probably means we will never be great under the criteria of being a world power. And for me, I would rather we be good than great.

America is not a young land: it is old and dirty and evil. Before the settlers, before the Indians... the evil was there... waiting.

I would require all to read Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States and then force a vacation to some other country for two weeks to see life elsewhere with newly-opened eyes. I think that would give us more of a national conscience. Sorely lacking.

its power and wealth were built on the extraction of resources, labor, and territory from other countries, much like every other imperialist nation that has ever come into existence. Most histories of the global economy, particularly those extending to the period before contact, illustrate how the rise of America and parts of Western Europe correlate to the decline/decimation of advanced societies in South America, Africa, and Asia.

The neoliberal ideology of expansion and "free trade" is largely built on similar principles, whereby stagnation and regression, both economically and as a country, are avoided by breaking down national borders, exploiting labor, and dominating markets abroad.
