Talk me down. I should wait to #DemExit until after FL primary
Submitted by vl baker on Mon, 07/25/2016 - 3:39pm
Florida's primary is August 30. I had planned to wait to #DemExit until after I voted for Alan Grayson, a great progressive running for US Senate. Also there is an important solar initiative on the ballot.
But I find that I can't wait to cast off the Democratic Party chains and the waiting is making me a nervous wreck. I need to move ahead.
Talk me down.

sorry about this, but I've been going throught this everyday and
Aug. 30 is a long way off.
No need to be sorry.
We're all at various stages of processing and transitional phases can be confusing.
My current thinking on the subject is this: If leaving the party prevents you from supporting someone you want to support, then the party still has too much control over you. I think our goal should be to free ourselves from ANY control that the party has over us, and I think we should be willing to use it for anything that suits OUR needs for this election.
Beyond that, I think we need to be looking at alternatives. I think the Democratic brand is trashed beyond recovery for at least a generation. IMO, this particular Clinton stink will not come out no matter how many times it's washed.
For president, I like Dr. Stein if Bernie is not available. For down-ballots in closed primaries, the Democratic Party is all that we have for some races. I hope that we can get some of these good people to later switch to another party or to become Independent.
If you have someone worthy of support, then wait.
There will be enough of us who can leave to make the statement to the DNC, should they actually give a shit about how many voters they have. You can catch up later. If you are in a state and district with a late primary and good progressives to vote for, your vote might well make a difference- and that is worth waiting for...
Move ahead in every other way, and support whomever your conscience tells you to- but the paperwork can wait a little longer.
Thanks skod, you guys are helping. nt
Let me try to help
I'm pissed as hell, in Florida, and also holding off until September. Just keep thinking about all the Romney donations Patrick Murphy made, how the party from Reid to Biden is trying to back him and knife Grayson. Then imagine how good that vote for Grayson will feel. It's a great chance to give the party leadership one more middle finger. Don't squander that chance. Make it a twofer, a vote for Grayson and then a switch to indie (or green or whichever is your preference).
Thanks, quince. Yea, Patrick Murphy, can't forget about the
conservadem. Appreciate the reminder.
I seriously can't stand him
Wait.
If Geayson wins it will make a lot of Democrats angry, beginning with Reid.

I too was looking for a reason to delay sending in my form.
I have had it filled out and sitting in an envelope for a while now and have been struggling for a reason as neither appealed to be.
This however sounds like it could be a good enough reason if it's true.

Rignt. Thanks Cachola. I'd love to make a lot of Dems angry n/t
Hang on, for the convention to be over. Me too.
A lotta folks feel the same way, but we need to support Bernie's delegates and the protests at Philly. Until it's over, it's not over.
Then we all leave. They know from crowd responses and polls, things are not going to be easy. Already they know this. So give them a little rope. One week.
That's my humble opinion.
Good to see you BB. Great writing as always.

Thanks Harry. You guys are great. This is helping me calm down.
It's been a tough month for all of us.
I also say 'WAIT'
I don't mean to negate your feelings on the matter. It is far more than merely symbolic to release yourself from the Democratic party, however, you do not want to give anyone involved in the election process an opportunity to fuck up your registration status. After all we've seen, it could happen.

We in California only have the GE ahead of us. We can change anytime, although my recommendation is to wait until the Convention ends.
For those who still face local and state primaries where worthy people like Grayson and Canova are running, then you should hold off until after you have had a chance to vote for them. Both can't afford to lose your support.

If you are in her district stay and vote against
Debbie Hill-shill Wasserman!
When I was a kid, Republicans used to red scare people, now it's the Democrats. I am getting too damn old for this crap!
For most of us its the Grayson/Murphy senate race
Murphy is awful. He's basically a republican. Grayson is a good progressive on most (but not all) issues. I'll be staying dem to vote for him. After that? Nope.
Not in DWS district but sent some money to Canova. He's
needed in South Florida, where water rising in the streets due to climate change is a daily occurrence.
patience always benefits you...
...whatever you face. reward for patience is sometimes unseen in the moment. kick DWS out of office. get Canova and Grayson in.
I would also encourage you to wait.
Getting Grayson into the Senate would be huge. #DemExit isn't just about leaving the party, but also rewarding the real progressive candidates that deserve our votes.
Can you apply for an absentee ballot now?
Would that help? If you can arrange to be "out-of-state" then but pre-fill the ballot soon and then exit? NY does not update their online voter database that often.
Good switchin'!
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
This seems like the best way to go
The absentee ballot can even be requested online. Deadline is August 30, but it seems it can be applied for at any time. More info

Actually, I'm on automatic absentee ballot. That's a good idea
to vote as soon as I receive and then change my registration immediately.
Should be receiving it in a couple of weeks. Thanks
Your vote may be invalid if you're not a
registered dem on the date of the primary.
Will check on that. Maybe worth it to wait a couple of weeks to
Make sure my vote counts.
I vote in Florida too.
I plan on doing my Demexit after the August primary.

Want to piss off the DSCC, DNC, and Hillary.
Please, oh, please wait until you've voted for Grayson.
Plus remember, you HAVE to vote for the solar initiative. You know that. Right?
(I never like telling people what to do, but you asked
Please wait until you vote for Grayson!
I am here in Texas, and sending the man $50, after I swore off giving any dem another cent...then Grayson's campaign called. Please help my very last contribution EVER count! Please!

Wait
I would suggest waiting and campaigning down ticket first. It is more important to get Progressives elected. You can leave any time but we may only have this chance to get good people elected. Use your energy for that and you will be making an important statement. Best of luck on your decision it is a tough one.

Thanks michelewin. The support here has helped. With the
convention beginning; today was a terrible day but feeling more resolute now.
You take care...
We need your vote
To send Debbie packing from the house.
Isn't it far more important
to continue the revolution?
And in that light, it doesn't matter one hoot what party you are in as long as you work to overthrow the Oligarchy. OTOH I have no clue why there is a fascination with Bernie or Bust or Demexit, Green Party, WFP affiliation changes.

Just to add my two cents, vl
The DNC has shown they don't give a rat f*%k about progressives, so the date you demexit is really not going to make any difference to them as a statement. If I had the opportunity to vote for someone in a primary like Grayson, I'd jump at it. So if it were me, I'd wait.
