GOS blows its TOP. Calls Jill Stein "DICTATOR IN WAITING!" on the recommeded list.

This poor hysterical kossacks only evidence for her "DICTATORSHIP IN WATING," was she said that people needed to put pressure on the system to pass her agenda.

Stein was asked another question before exiting: if given so much power, how do you prevent the president from becoming a dictator? What actions of the presidency could go too far? Rather than answer, Stein offered a response that Bernie supporters and those who wanted “real Democracy” would need to put political pressure on the USSC in order to advance their goals. Stein offered this assessment: “Political pressure on the USSC led to gay marriage, abortion rights and more… we must also pressure the courts.” In other words: what we can’t get through executive order, we’ll get through public pressure on the courts.

And with that, Stein exited, answering no questions about how this future would function. As of this morning, July 20, it is unlikely that Jill Stein will make the ballot in any form in Kansas. With the Republican convention happening now, Stein’s early July meeting stands out as the difference in vision of our political parties and vision of the future.

Today, we have two American parties now proposing virtual dictatorships. Whether it is right-leaning in Trump or left-leaning as Stein, there is really only one campaign in America right now that understands what a president actually can and can’t do in the way of change. There is also only one campaign that seems to understand that minority voters are worthy of outreach and discussion

I think this is really pedantic, and it is shameful no kossack pointed this out. They really look like blithering idiots. I wonder what their private polling is showing that got them to twit out like this. At least they aren't ignoring her anymore.

Meantime, this is good news to my eyes--it means Jill Stein is starting to poll better and better. That's some shit, isn't it?

I guess we're doing better for Jill than I thought we were.

I think she has been with us every step of the way. To the best of her limited resources, I think she has attempted to emulate what the more powerful (and more plentiful) leftist parties did for FDR. A few months ago, I thought it was noble in a hopeless sort of way. Yet here we are, heading into the convention with a little extra leverage because of her. I actually find that rather impressive. Of course, it's still very unlikely that we prevail at the convention, but impressive nonetheless.

The DK piece is ridiculous. Right now, at this point in our history, those types of people do not exist in left wing parties in the United States. There is not a single person planning how to maneuver their way into a leadership role within the Working Families Party so that they can force the world to bend to their will. Even the mighty Green Party ain't quite there yet. Dr. Stein is one of us.

it doesn't look like I'm in danger of getting banned.

I have to bite my fingers not to say that if they're all so scared about a loss to Trump, then they need to push the party to nominate Bernie next week.

Anyway, I agree - if TOP smears Jill repeatedly, then she has gained Bernie's stature. They may come to regret their previous Bernie stances - no progressive will believe their further smears now.

I went over there today just to see what the lunatics were up to. I figured they'd be in a rage over "Lock her up!" but they seem only mildly concerned about that. I glanced at the rec list, read the article about Jill Stein the dictator and was just about to exit out of la la land when this diary title caught my eye "One sentence shows why Hillary Clinton will win this election."

I couldn't resist, and had to click before I left to see what possible words of wisdom Hillary might have uttered that would make someone think that one sentence would determine the winner of this election. Sit down before you read this! Are you ready? Okay, here we go...

I don’t understand "Pokemon Go,” but reportedly the (Clinton) campaign is using it to find out where the game guides people to congregate, and setting up voter registration tables there.

No, I am not making this up! I was so shocked, dumbfounded, confused and intrigued, I had to read on down into the comments. 231 comments and counting on how this will change everything. Hillary will be able to reach out to Millennials and all those people playing Pokemon Go to register new voters and register them to vote for Hillary. I do believe they have officially jumped the proverbial shark!! They have truly lost their minds over there!

I was almost tempted to log in and rec the diary to keep it on the recommended list so everyone can see what a bunch of fools they are. Come to think of it, that's a pretty good idea! I think I'll go back over and rec the diary!!

(seemed like it to me, anyway).

I was reading something about that thing earlier in the week, btw, and meant to post it here (or maybe I saw it posted here by someone else? I lose track...) Apparently, when you download and set up that game, it's EULA (end user license agreement) strips your right to sue them if anything bad happens to you while playing it; you have to settle for arbitration.

Whether that's the NSA or some asshole startup app designer with a shrewd legal team, that doesn't matter. The minute you see that, you go find another game. That's crazy!

necessary to be able to live a healthy life. Sports, pop culture, etc are all distractions. Why all the hate for Pokémon Go? critter diaries, for example. Wink But we also have to face life so we can make it better. You're right, distraction has been around forever - bread and circuses. Pokémon Go is just the latest version. But it is designed for people to move around while playing, and so they are trespassing, walking into traffic, crashing cars, etc. I posted a couple videos about it last night in Video News, if you're interested. It's bad enough when someone walks into a light pole while texting, but you can text sitting down. Pokémon Go is designed for you to walk while playing. It seems to take the absurd to a whole new level. Or it could just be that I too am at the "get off my lawn" age! Wink

who are doing the dumb things have no commonsense as it is. Pokémon Go is just an excuse. If it weren't this, it would be something else. And most people don't walk and "play," they tend to find spots where someone has used a Lure Module and let the Pokémon come to them. The walking is generally in small areas where they are trying to pinpoint something that is nearby. They don't walk long distances staring at their phones.

Not climate controlled, and I test computers and wipe the hard drives. The 6 of us who do this will have 10-13 systems each, running (generating amazing amounts of heat) all day. Sometimes they aren't finished before quitting time, so they're left running over night. It was only 94 there today, but in a concrete oven, add at least 10 degrees to that, and never stop moving or sit down.

The pay isn't great, but the benefits are. It's just unbearably hot. I'm pushing 50, and had a weird virus 5 years ago which has made it very hard for me to tolerate heat.

My manager is a racist too; so I've been applying other places. The last three people to be fired are black. I'm not black, but I'm not his race either, and I speak to, even eat lunch with the last two black people in the whole facility, so he won't even make eye contact with me.

Now that they won against Bernie in part by smearing him mercilessly, they will try to eliminate the next threat to her coronation by smearing Jill mercilessly.

Of course every time they pick a new target, it works less well, because they lose all the people who liked Bern plus those who like Jill. TOP struggles to stay relevant when most of us realize their politics are silly nonsense these days.

So that's why I think a smear on TOP is actually good news! It means they feel a threat. They're taking Jill seriously! Good, then we actually have a chance to win. But we do have to make sure that they don't get away with hacking the voting machines.

Millennials and people that play electronic games are not that stupid. Just shows me how clueless the Clinton Democratic machine is. Man they are barking up the wrong tree. They need to hustle the fear and hate demographic. Gamer players are pretty savvy and all the millennials I know are hip to their jive. They know a fix when they see it. They need to fish for potential Dem. voters in another hole.

My millennial granddaughter is an indie who from the beginning of this insane election cycle has been a Jill Stein supporter. Bernie was too into the endless bloody war for her. She plays electronic games but would laugh if the Clinton Dems. tried to get to sign up. At 18 she told us all why bother voting it's rigged. She did register eventually as an Indie.

The Pokemon go players here seem to play in the parks. A few years ago Mt. Tabor park up the street from us was full of people dressed up in medieval grab and fake swords running around in the trees playing some game. It was entertaining to come upon them. For me as a city walker and bike rider what drives me nuts is people in their honking huge earth destroyer's who at stop signs are texting and yaking on the phone. Crossing the street in front of them is a perilous undertaking.

"Groupthink” – a hallmark of political parties – suppresses independent thought, creativity and dissent and encourages bias and irrational decision making in the “in-group” while any “out-group” is discounted as inferior and scorned. These aspects are intensified when only two groups are powerful enough to achieve a desired goal – in this case, winning an election – and people are forced to choose between them. The human mind shifts to binary mode when presented with only two choices, an evolutionary leftover from times when a snap judgment of “Us vs. Them” could determine our survival. The tendency nowadays is to identify with one and repudiate the other. Normally, it’s not until a third or fourth option is presented that critical thinking is engaged."

“Chip in before tonight’s midnight deadline, get a free sticker, and let’s show Trump exactly who he’s up against — the strongest team in this election.”

By coughing up some dough we can help Hillary stop the big bad wolf from ruining America and can congratulate ourselves on belonging to the strongest team. Never mind that the $360 million her campaign has already raised isn’t enough, purportedly, to ensure Hillary’s victory.

As an independent voter, I’ve naturally grown accustomed to compromise when deciding whom to vote for. In the past, when there hasn’t been a candidate who’s inspired my support, I’ve voted for whoever seems the less likely to cause much damage, the candidate who seems most trustworthy and honest.

Since both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are dishonest and untrustworthy, I can’t, in good conscience, vote for either of them.

Instead, this election I plan to do something I haven’t done before. I plan to write-in my candidate of choice: Bernie Sanders. And I’m not alone. Millions of others fed up with divisive Establishment politics plan to do the same – if not write in Bernie Sanders, then vote for a third-party candidate.

When Senator Bernie Sanders announced his presidential bid I’ll admit that, as much as I liked him, I thought he wouldn’t stand a chance. The rolling media blackout that darkened the start of his campaign coupled with a majority of superdelegates pledging their support to Clinton eight months before the first ballot was cast made him a long-shot at best.

Nevertheless, in a short amount of time millions of Americans were feeling the Bern, creating a schism in the Democratic Party. Since then, Hillary has called for “party unity” and, to try to draw Sanders’ voters her way, has attempted to come across as much more progressive than she actually is. This isn’t just disingenuous. It’s transparently manipulative and has only succeeded in pushing true Progressives farther from her reach.

Somehow it seems to be lost on her and many other Democratic leaders that Sanders’ political revolution is founded in principles that oppose nearly everything Hillary’s neoliberal brand of democracy consists of – corporatized government, crony capitalism, limitless campaign contributions, increasingly deregulated global trade and control by the wealthiest few.

The Republican Party faces a similar rift among party members. If the absurdity of the 2016 election has revealed anything it’s that voters want more than change – they want something completely different – and will vote for almost anyone who isn’t a figurehead of the Establishment.

Regardless of who’s been president over the past 30 years, median household incomes have either stagnated or steadily declined. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer as the middle class is diminishing altogether and neither Democratic or Republican incumbents seem to do a damn thing but make it worse. Should Hillary get elected, 4 of 5 presidents in the last 30 years will have been a Clinton or a Bush.

It’s no wonder that Hillary and Trump have respectively earned the highest “unfavorable” ratings of any Democratic or Republican presidential candidate in history, which might have something to do with a couple other things they have in common: a history of outright lying to the public and hundreds of millions of dollars amassed through surreptitious means.

While both parties push for unity, members who aren’t “with her” or with him are being urged to vote against the other party by voting for their party’s nominee. This twisted logic implies that at least you’ll be doing your part as a member to help your party win.

Voting for someone you dislike to block someone you despise is commonly known as choosing between “the lesser of two evils.” This phrase has seen prolific usage as of late. It’s apropos if a little misleading since I don’t think most Americans perceive either candidate as literally evil. But, for the sake of argument, let’s suppose for a minute they are.

Evil’s most prevalent, recognizable trait is a lack of empathy for others’ pain and suffering. If I had to decide if Hillary or Trump were the lesser of two evils based solely on how empathetic each comes across, I’d probably end up voting for Trump.

Many Democrats are genuinely fearful of what a Trump incumbency might mean for the future of America. But I just can’t bring myself to fear him. For one, his more ridiculous and dangerous ideas would be held in check by Congress – he is, after all, only one man. And though he’s made a sweeping array of insensitive comments mainly about certain ethnic groups and women, they were so stereotypical as to sound like drunken rants from a Southern Uncle at a down-home barbeque. Ignorant and inflammatory? Yes. Lacking in empathy? I’m not so sure.

Hillary gave an interview to Diane Sawyer in 2011 in which she joked, then gleefully guffawed about her role in the assassination of Libyan ex-Prime Minister Muammar Gaddafi. Some people take pleasure in an enemy’s death, I suppose. But the mission also entailed the deaths of dozens of innocent women and children, which Hillary surely knew about.

More recently, she was criticized for donning a $12,000 jacket while giving a speech on income inequality. A staggering 46.7 million people in the U.S. live beneath the poverty line, a family of four earning roughly $24,000 a year – twice the amount of Hillary’s jacket.

And then we have Bernie Sanders ... been fighting for the same issues since the Sixties, not vacillating once.

By informing the public of things previously not widely understood – like the meaning of Democratic Socialism and superdelegates’ superhuman sway – he called attention to the ways corporate politics mislead and manipulate the public. In doing so, he made enemies of prominent leaders of the DNC.

The DNC needed Bernie Sanders, at least in the beginning. Here’s why: Trump entered the RNC race as one of 19 contestants. But Hillary had only one viable opponent, Bernie Sanders – unless you count the 4 unknowns who never appeared in a national poll or participated in a debate.

Her nomination would have been a coronation had she not faced any competition. Some argue it was a coronation and that her title had been decided from the start. If Hillary did have any competition in Sanders, she never seemed to think so.

Two months before her nomination was official and on the heels of losing 20 states to Sanders, she announced to CNN, “I will be the nominee for my party. There is no way that I won’t be.” Considering hard data alone, the race was too close for anyone to call at the time. How could she have been so certain of the outcome if the nomination process wasn’t, to some degree… I don’t know, “rigged”?

Conspiracy or not, the DNC’s scheme to force their Establishment Darling on the public provoked the resistance instead. The RNC’s nomination of someone with zero political experience has had similar effects. If Trump or Hillary wins, it’s America who loses.

I won’t hear that my decision to opt out of the lesser-of-two-evils paradigm and vote for a candidate who isn’t on the ballot means I’m casting a vote for the “other” side or throwing my vote away. This kind of party-line propaganda is a self-perpetuating cycle, one that has played an influential role in landing our great nation in the mess it’s in today. If we keep settling for what we’re given – in this case two candidates disliked by most Americans – nothing can change for the better. The progressive and patriotic move is to reverse this regressive way of thinking by refusing to vote for anyone unworthy of the Office of President.

Fear is a powerful contagion. To stop it from spreading, we must become immune. The only way to do this is to stand together against those who would divide us, believing that the American dream of “liberty and justice for all” can still be realized and that, when it is, every one of us will reap its benefits.

The People's Revolution will and must continue!
I'm tired of both parties dividing us up over identity politics and social issues, while they share the same corporatist agenda.

Desperation - exactly. Realizing how many Bernie Sanders supporters are now supporting Jill Stein. Very sad.

Now as for the Pokemon sentence. That's so dumb, I believe it.

CLINTON AND TRUMP ARE BATTLING EACH OTHER OVER POKÉMON GO
Hillary is luring millennials using Poké Stops while the Donald releases a tutorial on how to capture “Crooked Hillary.”

On Thursday, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Hillary Clinton campaign staffers and volunteers in Ohio have begun setting up voter-registration drives at so-called Poké Stops across the state, taking advantage of the real-world locations where gamers are gathering to catch Pokémon in order to register millennial voters. So far, the tactic has reportedly been wildly successful, to the point that—and this is true—the Hillary campaign has scheduled an official event in Lakewood, Ohio, for volunteers to “get free pokemon, & battle each other while you register voters and learn more about Sec. Hillary Clinton!!!”

This happened five days ago. It's probably changed since then, but it was a nice symbolic victory.

but it was a very good site for a long time. I got there right after the 2004 election, feeling very bad about America in general. Over the last 12 years, that place was devolved from my "go to" click in the morning to a place I haven't visited since LD's Bernie News Roundup flew the coop. It was one of the few reasons that I remained.

Like many here, I refuse to give kos the clicks. I almost clicked on to read the hit piece on Jill, but did not.

back when netroots was a movement and bloggers were worth a damn. Now, they're no different than Tweety. Just like more and better politicians, they all sell out.

I joined 2004. It was a life saver. When the whole country was praying to Reagan every am, it was a niche of sanity. Then Kos had lunch with Bill Clinton, and it became a PR site for the Democratic Party.

I was politically adrift in 2004. Bush was somehow reelected and all seemed lost. A friend put me on to dKos in Jan 2005. I joined on my second day. What a mess it has become since then. GOS and the Democratic party have traveled parallel paths over the last 4 or 5 years. Meh. Even without the March Edict, it was time for this hillbilly to "exit, stage left"*.

When I joined up (my user ID# was 39,000 or so) I thought that dKos may stay committed, a' la Morris Dees and The Southern Poverty Law Center. There are still a few. Alas, not the Great Orange Satan. Calling it a liberal or progressive site today is not unlike those who claim that it was the Republicans who elected Lincoln and fought slavery. Well, it was the Republicans. And any resemblance of the Republican party of 2016 to the Republican party of 1866 is purely coincidental.

*10 points for identifying that cartoon character
