in the rear view mirror. Bags packed, ready for a ride to the airport tomorrow. some observations...
The BLM protest (or whatever that was) failed.
A lady conference goer (and Guvmint worker) from Memphis said, "the reason Hillary Rotten Clinton used her own Server / Email was and is that the guvmint's system is about a hundred fucking years old - and she wanted something that worked." I buy it, and think that's the end of EmailGate. Or should be.
cont'd, but I gotta get me some ribs and pulled pork....
Fire something, on the corner of Washington and 6th, if you're in St. Louis. mmm mmm good.
The conference hall and swag bags were not as full as other years. (this was my fourth, going back to 2012).
No Town Hall. Or, if there was I missed it.
Few candidates there, but among the notable was Zeph Teachout, the second woman prez of the USA. She puts Her Highness to shame, would beat the Trumpster in arm wrestling.
The "theme" seemed to be Down Ballot as nobody mentioned either HRC or Bernie.
Markos was "on vacation." (I'm guessing didn't want to come face to face with Berners). And, it's the second one he's missed - two in a row now - missing Phoenix last year.
Anybody go? What'd I miss?
Comments
I'm not sure I'd go again if they paid me.
Did they have any sessions on "Smearing Progressives as Racists and Sexists" or "Learning to Love Corruption, and How to Get Your Share" ?
We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Yeah, man, missed you
this time! And, the Kos Caucus mostly was about "how do we get it back to where it was 3, 4 years ago... " I dunno, boot Markos? A good start.

Thanks for the report! I wondered how it would be, after all the
Hill/Bern wars. Glad it was mostly avoided. It could have been volatile otherwise!
I read Over There that they are all agog that Hillary "spoke to" the group! (via video, wonder how many groups she has "spoken to" the same?)! Sorry, I can't get excited about that. I'll believe she's changed her spots - or is it stripes? - after she's in office and actually does what she has promised. If she's ever in office.
I would have gone if I'd had the chance because I know some of y'all who went. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone. I would have expected it to be a Hillary lovefest and I just can't get on board yet.
Do tell us all about it after you have a chance to recover. Go, Zephyr Teachout!

Well, it really wasn't
a Hillary love fest. If anything there were more Bernie supporters. But, it really never came up. Neither candidate was mentioned much. There was more talk about building coalitions.

EC, did you read the diary about how Hillary is going to
is going to do a constitutional amendment to overturn citizens united?
She is going to do it within 30 days after she's elected.
The bots are jumping up and down and clapping their hands over it.
They did point out that it will take 2/3rds of congress to vote for it and that it might not happen for a few years.
One poster even said that it might take DECADES but this proves how progressive she is.
Good lord, gag me already.
If I were a diabetic, I'd be in a coma because of the syrupy comments there.
They can't see that she is just telling them what they want to hear.

Oh, Honestly.
Every justice on the Supreme Court will tell you that the Constitution cannot be amended. The barrier is too high now for the 21st century. Academics the world over have categorized it as "entrenched."
This constitutional limit is widely recognized and listed as such in text books and encyclopedias.
Hillary sure does know the "brain power" of her supporters. "An amendment." Heh.
I love how Bernie's entire platform is "unrealistic," but
Hillary supporters think that she's going to pass a constitutional amendment when the Republicans control the Congress and nearly half of all state governments. What are these people smoking? Hillary can't even subscribe to a carbon tax and fracking ban in a non-binding party platform, but she's suddenly going to get dirty money out of politics? After she's been the single largest beneficiary of Citizen's United this election cycle? What an absolute joke. She's literally just saying anything at this point.
Frankly, anyone that believes this horse shit deserves to be stabbed in the back.
good point on how Bernie's plan wouldn't ever get passed
Because of the republicans blocking everything, but Hillary knows how to work with the republicans and she will get everything she wants passed.
The republicans did block a lot of Obama's and the democrat's agenda, but they didn't even bother to try to push for what they wanted to pass.
Why did the rules change that every bill needed 60 votes to pass? Who the hell came up with that?
I remember when Cheney or other Vps would go to the capital to cast the tie breaking vote when it was 50-50.
IMO, both Obama and the democrats hid behind the republicans blocking any agenda they wanted. Especially Obama. And that's why DWS wasn't fired for doing such a shitty job by running candidates that were either poor candidates or wouldn't get behind the good ones.
Was it McClaskey or another member that vote more often with the republicans instead of the democrats that Obama helped get re elected?
And how did they know a year in advance that the democrats were going to lose the house?
Obama was quite happy with the GOP getting more members elected because he knew that they will help him get the TPP passed.
Amy Goodman had an ex congress man on her show years ago that admitted that the parties take turn being in charge.
After the Bush terms, everyone was saying that the republicans would be out of power for decades, yet in less than one election they hold the house again.
It does matter which party is in charge because they aren't in charge of anything. The banks and the corporations tell them which bills to pass and even write this bills for them.
Same thing with every regularatory agency we have. Big pharma tells the FDA which drugs they want approved, even if they are dangerous drugs. Look at Vioxx for example. The drug company knew that drug it caused heart problems yet it stayed on the market for years until the lawsuits started. Then they took it off the market for a time, but it eventually made its way back to be prescribed
Same as many other medications.
Listen to the side effects of the drugs and wonder how a drug that has a side effect that can cause death and other life threatening conditions could possibly be approved for people to take.
The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists.

that's an excellent way to make a show of doing what she absolutely would never do after the ton of cash she's raked in...

I read a few comments that said if you don't try for
something, you'll never get it. Gee, where have I heard that before.
Also, months back when Hillary was asked her position about overturning Citizens United, her answer was, "If necessary."
My, how she has evolved (into a worse liar).
And Adam B, all slappy happy over Hillary doing the video, guess who will be rubbing elbows with the elite when they come to town next week... he's one of the elite.
Yes! Perhaps the prime example of "I'll believe it when I see
it". She's benefited like virtually no politician ever from big money in politics, and getting money out will be her priority? Well maybe if she's finally decided she's rich enough. But I highly doubt it.
If she manages to get Congress to ratify an amendment, the states still vote on it. As others have said here, it's a cumbersome process unlikely to happen any time soon. All of which is in the unlikely event that she pushes for it in the first place.
Please check out Pet Vet Help, consider joining us to help pets, and follow me @ElenaCarlena on Twitter! Thank you.
She didn't even do that
Last year, did she? Still pissed off about being booed.
So if she did a video this year, the fix must have been in. Not surprising, as for several years I've read how the "professional left" took it over from the grassroots.
The "final word" on the Email
The "final word" on the Email thing is this: Should someone as demonstrably and admittedly careless with classified information as Mrs. Clinton is be awarded a security clearance? At this point it's the only important question left.

I suspect the whole affair is much ado about nothing. And, I'm no Hillary supporter. I voted for and support Bernie. I'd vote for The Donald before voting for HRC. But, like the lady from Memphis said, it sounds like a lot of horse$h!t. Fact is todays guvmint computer systems are 4, 5, 6 years old. Or more. Which in internet time is decades. It just could be that one of Hillary's minions that knows a thing or two about computers said, fuck this! We're not working on this system! Regardless, it's time for someone in Guvmint to $h!t or get off the pot re. EmailGate. She either did or she didn't (break the law). My money is on not. The lady from Memphis right.

She would be more credible if she started out with
a .gov account and moved to her own server. But she specifically said she only wanted to use one device for convenience (and of course wouldn't want her private emails on government servers).
So the story that government servers don't work doesn't hold water.
Ludicrous, in fact.
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
How so? She asked for
a secured Blackberry a la Obama. "They" said no. So, she opted for her own Server instead. Take That fed. guvmint! A secured blackberry would have ended it. No private server needed. But, no. "They" wouldn't give her one, so... she improvised. End of story. There is no -gate here.
the little things you can do are more valuable than the giant things you can't! - @thanatokephaloides. On Twitter @wink1radio. (-2.1) All about building progressive media.
that would be more credible if the systems they set
up for her hadn't been so porous.
email is fucking email. the only thing that has changed in the last fifteen years is that microsoft has managed to break something that used to work just fine, with their fucked up exchange server. i could serve your email today on a system from 2001 -- hardware and software -- and you wouldn't know the difference, other than it would have security holes that have since been patched, and the server-side spam filtering would be pretty weak.
the bottom line is that HRC was being a WATB about the inconvenience of being the secretary of state, and decided that she was above the rules.
and guess what? comey agreed.

the little things you can do are more valuable than the giant things you can't! - @thanatokephaloides. On Twitter @wink1radio. (-2.1) All about building progressive media.
She wanted a secured Blackberry. They wouldn't give her one.
More accurately, they would not configure a Blackberry for her that she would be able to use for both her non-secure private email AND her SoS email. So she arrogantly and petulantly used her unsecured Blackberry and her unsecured email server to conduct official federal business. In other words, she was being a WATB about the inconveniences of being the Secretary of State while simultaneously managing the largest graft operation in history.
What Comey actually said, in so many words, was, "If she weren't Hillary Clinton, she'd be facing charges for this."
Sadly, there is a lot to see here. I didn't care about HRC's emails when it was about Republicans trying desperately to find some sort of malfeasance on her part as regards Benghazi. And as far as I'm concerned, they found absolutely nothing there, which is why she was able to completely humiliate them when they called her to testify.
The private, secret email server is a whole different deal. Its existence and application quite clearly violated both policies and laws, her careless use of it quite clearly exposed classified information to people who should not have been able to see that information, and the apparent deletion of emails was almost certainly obstruction of justice.
More and more, the one figure in modern American political history whose behavior, attitude and politics are most often evoked by HRC is Richard Nixon (and to some extent, his minion and acolyte, Richard Cheney). Except, of course, that Nixon was somewhat more liberal than HRC.

Just what are you saying? Couple of time you have made comments that at first I thought were snark. I thought you equated Benghazi to her server and the foundation. Considering how her
"Minions that know a thing or 2 about computers" left that server wide open for a few months & thought the response to a hacking attack was to unplug from the Internet for awhile, my opinion if her minion's computer knowledge is less than yours.
Also, as SOS if Hillary found state's system to be that antiquated, to endure the security of the 100s of employees communications she should have had things updated.
But obviously our milage varies.
Are you truly serious about Email-gate being nothing?
Sorry, but I disagree bigtime. What HRC did was nefarious, and then Comey compounded it. I wrote a few essays about it, I hope, hope, hope you will read them:
Email and Cybersecurity for Dummies: a Primer to help w/OIG report about Hillary's Private Server
One Law for Thee, and Another for Me - Comey actually said it out loud: if Clinton had been someone else, his decision would likely have been different

If the president and the rest of the "guvment" can manage
to do their jobs using the official computer systems and following the rules, then so can the Secretary of State. I don't buy that excuse for a minute!
In fact, I find it ludicrous to suggest that she was right to circumvent the proper systems and make up her own rules, based on a presumed opinion of her "minions" that official systems are too inferior for her highness.
The email thing itself isn't much ado about nothing.
There are two different things going on here. Neither of them is "man these gov't computers are old, let's use something that works." Hillary conspired with her aides to avoid scrutiny and FOIA requests. That was the only purpose for the server. That said the two issues are:
One, the hullabaloo over classified material protection. I happen to think it was overblown and agree she didn't do anything criminal, in the sense that the laws she clearly broke are themselves broken and should never be enforced.
Two, the double-standard by which Hillary is protected from prosecution where almost anybody else would not be, and by which her professional career is not only not jeopardized but apparently enhanced when anybody else would never work in a position requiring clearance again. Likely not even for a company where any employees needed clearance for that matter.
Actually, a campaign is now on at gos to show
how Comey lied and Hillary never did anything wrong and how to stop the lies about her.
They really are HillBots, aren't they?
Not the kind with Artificial Intelligence or even the human type.
I know. Geesh.

Bullet points!
You know that's straight from a Clinton camp strategy mtg.
So you really buy her explanation, eh?
She so knowlegeable that she could not deal with the old system yet her system was hacked and left unsecured, not to mention other bending if not violation of classified doc handling rules and thousands upon thousands of emails deleted but her motives were pure I guess. It makes so much sense now that you explaibed it.
Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur.
Exactly. And, there's zero
evidence her system was hacked. HRC is no Snow White, but did she deliberately build her own system for nefarious purposes? The Feds say no. Case closed.
the little things you can do are more valuable than the giant things you can't! - @thanatokephaloides. On Twitter @wink1radio. (-2.1) All about building progressive media.
The case isn't closed. She lied to Congress.
They will be investigating that now as they well should.
And just because she wasn't indicted doesn't mean she didn't break the law. She did but she got away with it so far.
There is evidence that they knew that that the sever was hacked
Huma Abedin told JW that they knew the server was hacked because they had to take it offline for a few days to fix it.

Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur.
"For the Snark was a Boojum, you see"
Failed Snark = Boojum.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
The Feds did not say no.
Comey used weasal words, in the same manner that Clinton uses weasel words, to mislead people. You think you heard him say, "there is no case here," because he carefully crafted his words in order to give that false impression to naive listeners. But that is fucking NOT WHAT HE LITERALLY SAID. Here are Comey' actual words:
He did not say she did not break the law, he essentially said that nobody else has been prosecuted. Guess what? If you are the first person to break a certain aspect of a law, then nobody will have been prosecuted before you. That's a nice loop-hole, eh? Just be the first person to break a law, and you get to go Scot-free due to "lack of precedent".
What Comey is actually saying is that HRC is the first person to have been so stupid that she was GROSSLY NEGLIGENT without actually meaning to put the info at risk. In fact, she very much did not want to put the info at risk, THAT IS WHY SHE WAS USING HER OWN PRIVATE SYSTEM. But she was an arrogant and ignorant twat who didn't understand the huge security risks she was taking.
Why was she using a private email server? That my friend is the $64,000 question. SHE HAS NEVER SAID SHE DID IT BECAUSE THE *.GOV SYSTEMS WHERE CRAP, OR THAT THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE ENOUGH SECURITY. She said she did it out of convenience, because she didn't want to carry multiple devices, and that turned out to be a LIE. HRC needs to be asked the "why did you set this up" question UNDER OATH - Comey didn't even fucking ask her that question.
To anyone but a Hillary Zombie, it is clear that she set it up because she wanted to control access to the information. SHE WANTED TO EVADE THE REQUIREMENTS OF FOIA. But Comey considered FOIA to be outside of the bounds of their investigation, he was only narrowly looking at security. How nice for Hillary!
To recap, Comey said that all the cases prosecuted involved some combination of:
Re 2: Everybody else who has put such vast quantities of info at risk has always done it "on purpose". HRC was the first person to be so very stupid on such a grand scale. But the law that she broke DOES NOT REQUIRE INTENT, Comey just on his own initiative added that part in in order to let Clinton go free.
Re 1, 3, and 4: According to John V. Berry, lots of folks have been stripped of their security clearance at a minimum for accidentally mishandling classified information. Berry is a lawyer who specializes in security clearances; his opinion is that “Hillary Clinton got off easy”:
According to Berry, lack of intent to cause harm is not a factor that weighs heavily in the outcome of many cases:
"did she deliberately build her own system for nefarious purposes? The Feds say no. Case closed."
The feds say that she did not intend to build her system so that it was vulnerable to security issues. That is true.
But they didn't even ask her why she set up her system. They did not make any comment about her intention to evade the requirements of the Federal Records Act and FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) - which are the key means by which citizens can monitor the actions of elected officials. Obama pledged to be the most transparent administration ever, and he sang praises to the Federal Records Act and FOIA when he was inaugurated. Turns out it was all bullshit.
Email-gate is not a nothing-burger, it is a tremendously important issue. I very much hope that you will read my diaries on these subjects.
~OaWN
Clinton avoided FOIA
by using a private server - AND, as her husband, daughter, all the important players at CGF were a part of it, they could CO-ORDINATE all State Dept business, which might produce MONEY, MONEY, MONEY for the CGF. Easy.
And expected no one would ever know. Dumb fuckers.
So the "Bengahzi" game also REVEALED Sidney Blumenthal's use of the server, his communications with Clintons- and whaddya know - that all government CLASSIFIED and TOP SECRET documents were being shared on a totally unsecured server.
Funnier than irony. For supposedly smart people, they are so, so, so dumb.
This.
"I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.” —Malcolm X
I didn't follow the Bengahzi house investigation at all.
Do you know how exactly her private server came to light? Thanks.
I think it had to do with Judicial Watch filing
a FOIA request. And the State Dept didn't have the info because she wasn't using the govt server. Then, again, I may have it backwards.
The servers--more than one was exposed by Judicial Watch
Please read my emailgate summaries of the JW FOIA-related depositions. It is clear that JW was responsible for learning of the alleged single server. Subsequently the FBI found out, most likely from Pagliano that there was more than one server. State Dept. involvement is bifurcated. Those at the top of the pecking order knew exactly what was going on and actively obstructed the email release ordered by the courts--in fact they are still obstructing this process. The other part of the DOS consists of people out of the loop who either didn't know anything about this or just looked the other way. The fall-out on all persons not-Clinton will be that hundreds will have their careers ruined and some may be imprisoned. Some estimates of those in potential trouble could be as high as 400. By the way, don't expected Huma Abedin and cheryl Mills to come out of this unscathed. In the coming weeks--before the Demonic Convention there will be at least 3 more JW instigated depositions, including John Bentel, Clarence Finney and, yes, Medusa herself. Judge Emmet Sullivan is reportedly not pleased with DOS lying, bungling, and pervasive obstruction. Yes, this is a civil suit--but JW immediately sends deposition copies to FBI--perhaps enough new crap will emerge forcing Comey's hand to recommend indictment. Double jeopardy does not apply because Medusa has not been tried in a court of law.
Thank you so much.
I have been reading your emailgate summaries. I very much appreciate all the time and effort you've put in to reading the deps and then summarizing them with a humorous flare. I love your sense of humor and the way you write.
I may have missed your first summary where it stated how they found out about the server.
I have repeatedly read a sentence here and there that her email server came to light during the Bengahazi hearing. So thank you for setting me straight.
This article was diaried last night, this morning
and I hope people read the whole thing. It goes into deep details about her emails and the ties to their foundation. Very worthwhile read.
As I've mentioned before, the number of people involved in their foundation is staggering, and if it was properly looked into, hundreds of government officials in this country would go to prison.
Bernie did us a great disservice when he said he was tired of hearing about her damned emails.
I have no idea why he would say that if he was truly trying to win.
He knew that what she did was against every law pertaining to how classified information was to be protected.
The pay for play scandal is where she broke so many rules. Too many people without security clearance were able to access the server.
There is no reason for Chelsea to have access to a official government email server unless it was so that she too could do business on it for the foundation.
Hillary used her foundation to help corporations, banks and governments get what they needed.
Many corporations that had problems with our government had Hillary run interference to get them out of trouble and then they'd donate to the foundation.
She helped Boeing get a great deal selling jets to Russia and afterwards the foundation got millions in donations.
The republicans were aware of this but for some reason did nothing about it.
Here's the link to the article.
