Last chance for a progressive platform is gone.
Bernie, age 74, has clearly given up the fight. Sad.
Comments
He's a bit older than me, but has accomplished far more than I.
So instead of mourning the end of his run for the presidency I'm going to ask myself what I will do to carry the effort for change/revolution forward. After all it is about us, not him. It's up to all of us to find OUR way to engage and contribute.

OK, WTF is going on?
Bernie knows what happened this past week with the platform votes. His own surrogates were tweeting about the shady stuff that was going on. Yet, he's buying into the talking point that this is the "most progressive" platform in history, which is all but worthless since it's non-binding and doesn't condemn TPP or fracking. Now we get this announcement, which will practically render any protest at the Convention moot, thereby undercutting his own delegates?
This is utter nonsense. Did Bernie really give up all his leverage for this bullshit? Or is something else going on behind the scenes? Did he get promised something that we're not aware of? A cabinet position or something? Because from where I'm sitting right now, it feels like he capitulated for peanuts, symbolism, and empty promises from a proven liar.

Never trust a Clinton
When I was a kid, Republicans used to red scare people, now it's the Democrats. I am getting too damn old for this crap!
I really, really hope that wasn't even an issue.
If it's even remotely true, our hope for returning to a democratic society is dead. As terrible as the Clintons are, I'm not ready to buy into that argument.
What more do you need to
What more do you need to convince you? How about widespread election fraud? Or how about an announcement from the director of the FBI that Hillary Clinton is above the law?
Bingo
Maddow and others just saw fit to announce that he's without secret service protection (gleefully, I'm sure, since they've been bitching about the so-called taxpayer expense for weeks). They've been working up to this scenario from the beginning, starting with the Bernie Bros myth.
In a sane world, I'd say that all sounds like tin foil nuttery. But we're not in a sane world, are we?

I cannot get a copy of this photo to share, so
here is the link to the article with the photo. I am just posting this for the photo itself. Tell me how happy he looks. I know there is a reflection on his glasses but it sure looks like tears.

My friend sent me this email she got from Bernie
I don't think that she has been following the election as much as I have so she thought it was a great speech by Bernie.
I saw one of the emails that was posted here earlier, but this part wasn't in it:
IIRC, doing anything for social security was voted down, I saw nothing about the DP in it, nor anything about reinstalling Glass Steagall, or that bullshit about closing loopholes on companies that stash their cash overseas to avoid taxes.
Palestinians are still going to be bombed, Israel will still steal their lands and the banks are going to get bigger.
And remember that during the last omnibus bill, congress will allow the banks to take people's money and call it a bail in just like what happened in Greece. Remember seeing pictures of older people sitting on the ground crying because they couldn't access their money?
And wtf would congress put that in the bill if they didn't know that the banks are still screwing us?

I saw that, too, SD. (about Soc Sec--although my understanding
is that none of the major/pertinent Soc Sec amendments passed)
If that is an incorrect impression, I'd appreciate it if someone would please let me know. I was not able to watch, or listen to, much of the Committee deliberations.
Guess I'll have to go to the DNC website, to find the final Platform Planks, since my searches yield only the Platform drafts.
BTW, at EB (tonight) there is a video of Keith Ellison with Amy Goodman. He makes mention of the $15 hour minimum wage increase--but without the qualification, 'over time.' I'm going to be watching for that type of misleading rhetoric.
And, as I see it, I'll point it out.
Have a good one!

Thanks for your watch on SS issues! Wonder if you saw this
email?

Hey, DO! Great to see you again. And thanks for
this blurb. I will do my best to check out everything that I can find, regarding the Dem Party planks pertaining to Social Security and Medicare.
Please, anytime you see something, if you get a chance, throw a link at me. The more info--the better.
As you know, if I find out anything, I'll post it at EB.
Best to you and JB!

The platform? The f*cking platform?
Hollowest victory ever. Not only won't the Clintonites adhere to it in January, they won't adhere to it in August!

He endorsed a cheater for a worthless platform
Now we get a bunch of spin but the optics are clear: he sold out. This woman cannot be trusted, whatever "concessions" she makes now are worthless given that she's been proven to be a serial liar who is not going to keep her word.
Instead of wasting our energy on the corrupt Democrats, we should support the Greens. Not another party. This fragmentation is one of the Left's biggest issues, it is why we don't get anything done. We should look at how the NRA operates, as they get things done.
I just saw this image on another site. OMG! No words

Bernie, I will love you for the rest of my life.
But I'm going Green.
The Greens made it on the Georgia ballot, BTW.
Bernie cut us loose. By doing it now, he probably guaranteed that the Green Party will meet all of their July deadlines.

Has a post up at kossacks for sander's re Bernie's conference call with delegates tonight.
The platform is addressed. Also other plans for floor votes.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Kossacks_for_Sanders/comments/4skzg2/bernie_san...
he did not concede
Bernie did not concede, suspend his campaign or release his delegates. He's going to Philly.
Ive said this for months now: define "winning".
Bernie knows those platform concessions were fershit. I think his ultimate purpose at this point is to expose the (D) corruption and light a fire under peoples butts. My feeling right now, its late and Im tired, is that Im #Still Sanders through the Convention. Let this play out.
Bernie knows those platform
Nope. I'm not buying that anymore. If he hasn't sold out, then why is he writing his supporters to tell them about all the great, fantastic policies he's pushing for in the platform (most of which, by his own admission in the conference call to his delegates, have no chance of actually getting in)... and all we have to do to get that platform is elect Hillary?
No, no, no. NEVER. Bernie's done, and I am done with him. He can start his fake 50-state DFA retread and support more fake "progressives" who will support more Hillaries, but I will be looking elsewhere.
because
Ed Rendell made him do it. That is the kind of shit that can happen at the drop of a hat now, inside of a day's time. So...from where I sit, old lady that I am, I would love to help you understand what "sold out" means in this context and how this shit actually works in real time.
"Sold out yesterday" would have meant that Sanders just up and gave her all those delegates he busted all our asses to win. He didn't do that. He mouthed a few words, but he did not end his campaign. BIG DIFFERENCE.
So...relax, already. Revolutions do not happen in a vacuum, nor do they happen exactly the way you want stuff to happen when you want it to happen. If you can't be realistic about it, that's your prerogative, but you've come this far. Two more weeks isn't going to kill you.
For the record, I'm going Green, unless something comes to light which allows me to vote R without wanting to jump off a tall building. I will never vote for that woman, and neither should you. But I'm just sayin', we have not been "sold out".
I have been sold out so many times as most of us
have. This time bothers me the most because it was Bernie who did it.
asdf
Do I have to type it again in all caps or something? For cryin' out loud, endorsements are fucking meaningless. I don't care what the guy SAID under duress yesterday. You know what counts? DELEGATES.
Please don't make me keep repeating this: If Sanders had sold us out, he would have told the DNC to fuck off yesterday and Clinton would have ALL HIS DELEGATES TODAY. And his career would be completely over.
"Under duress." Wow.
I am being realistic. I can see through the bullshit.
Two more weeks would not have killed Bernie to wait to endorse her AFTER they voted for her to be the nominee.
Yes, it actually WOULD HAVE killed his
career and any momentum any of us still have now and he would have had ALL THOSE DELEGATES STRIPPED FROM HIM.
Sorry to keep repeating myself.
You can't force people to
You can't force people to vote for her. He broke his promise to his supporters. He capitulated. The platform is terrible. All the worst of Hillary's positions are safe and intact. No one will be able to point to the platform to embarrass her. He knows this.
Why the fuck do people take such statements to mean
I'm FORCING anyone to vote for that con artist c**t?
I'm not, so clearly, you need to re-read the comment you've just responded to. If all that shit hadn't gone down yesterday, if he'd told the DNC to fuck off, he would be DONE this morning.
No, he's not going to get the nomination. Go vote Green! But for fuck's sweet sake, before you bail on this guy, you need to understand WHY things happened the way they did yesterday. WAY too many of you do not have a damn clue about that, and the endless ranting on and on about "sellouts" is getting ridiculous.
You just blew all your credibility even if you did use
two asterisks.
Just so I'm clear, I'm talking about you
referring to Hillary as a "c**t." That's just not acceptable.
He's 74. What career?
He should be retired. For the record, I'm 71 and retired last year with less money than he has.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Ed Rendell made him do it.
Oh? Did he have a gun to Bernie's head? Was Bernie wearing puppet strings, perhaps, with Ed up in the rafters? Mind control ray?
No, no. Ed Rendell didn't make Bernie do shit. He can't. Bernie chose. Bernie chose to get up in front of a crowd and a camera and endorse a lying, cheating, sociopathic criminal for President. He's part of the machine now. THAT is what "sold out" means in this context.
No difference. His campaign is toast regardless. His delegates are dead weight now. He's not going to be nominated - if Hillary dies tomorrow, and someone pushes Biden out a window, and John Kerry vanishes from the Earth, they will still find someone to run who's not Bernie Sanders, and cheat until it sticks. He's not going to influence the Democratic Party - most of what he wanted won't make it into the platform, and Hillary's not going to care what the platform says anyway, which means all the Democrats in DC aren't going to care what the platform says.
I get that there are desperate Bernie fanatics out there that still believe he's winning somehow when he didn't win, won't win, and has thrown away every bit of leverage he could have used to win and still do right by the American people, and are convinced that every mistake he's made or going to make is part of some amazing political strategy yet to bear fruit. Don't be one of them; it's embarrassing. The time for faith is over; persisting must be called obsession now.
So much for a platform fight smdh
After all of his promises and statements

CNN? OK
some of you wouldn't last five minutes in an actual revolution, but suit yourself.
I hate to sound like that, but I don't know what else to say to some of you. These incorrect assumptions while you take the demonstrable LIARS in American media at face value and "shake your head" and "woe is me" would be laughable if they weren't so damned wrong at this point. Either dig deep and find a couple weeks more patience or don't--but these grand declarations based on fucking CNN headlines smack of Clinton Debbie Downers, so maybe we could clarify where you're coming from?
I know we're all disappointed, but some of you just flat-out aren't listening to reason.
some of you just flat-out
Ironic.
Yup.
(duplicate post)
I would not be surprised if his wife and family
have been urging (teensies) him to leave for some time. He is 74. Kick it down to 80 hours/week, enjoy grandkids and kids. He got the ball organized and rolling, it's on the mountain, rolling down and picking up snow.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Is this Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy?
I don't think so. The comment reads as slippery and wet with slime, but still I don't see a deliberate intelligence behind it.
I believe this may be a classic example of a lost fart in the wind.
Carry a burning candle and share the light.
.
Oh, it's an example of
something, all right. I know what I think it's an example of, but I've got better things to do than nitpick the obvious...
For years, I read about how
For years, I read about how Obama was a brilliant strategist playing 11th dimension chess, far beyond my peon brain could understand. I just needed to trust in the long game. And what we got was screwed by a charismatic, intelligent voice for the corporate state, one more neoliberal. Sorry, but other than for personal safety reasons, Bernie did not have to give up before the convention. If he didn't concede, why doesn't he have secret service protection any longer? He endorsed her for g_d sake.
Go look up "Ed Rendell" and get back to us
PLEASE???
YES. HE DID. It was either that or lose all those delegates and she wins. I would have been furious at him if he'd told Rendell to fuck off, because he would have been out, done, the end, as of yesterday.
No convention, no delegates, NOTHING. DONE. This way, he's bought his ticket to INSIDE THE CONVENTION HALL.
Is THAT what you wanted to happen?
Please stop panic screaming
Please stop panic screaming at me. I don't agree with you. He didn't need to do what he did as much as you try to convince yourself otherwise. If he had left the Democratic Party, he could have spoken directly to us and we would have followed him anywhere. Instead, he is on board corralling us into the slaughterhouse where nothing will change for the better until we stop allowing ourselves to be dinner.
Amen.
It was either that or lose
That's not how primaries actually work, and you need to stop screaming nonsense now.
You underestimate the DNC Mafia
And yes, it IS a Mafia-like organization. What they can't win through persuasion, or through lying and cheating and outright stealing, they grab through extortion and threats of force.
THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN RULES.
This was demonstrated over and over and over again all through this perverted farce of a "primary campaign".
They WOULD HAVE stripped Sanders of his delegates and slammed the door in his face. Rules or no rules.
If you don't understand that, you don't understand just how cutthroat "Democratic" (hahahahahahaha) Party politics has become.
PS: I'm of Italian ancestry, I can use the term Mafia if I want to. Especially when it fits so well.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Yes, the DNC has shown this
Yes, the DNC has shown this year that it is Mafia-like. But that doesn't really change anything, does it? Because if you believe that they can just "strip" people's delegates whenever they want, then you must believe that they can make a deal with Bernie to get his endorsement and then strip his delegates anyway. It becomes a "never negotiate with terrorists" scenario, and if his secret purpose is to expose the party's dishonesty, then when they carry out their threat to disenfranchise him, he wins anyway.
Telling phrasing from that article:
What happens to the progressive candidates Sanders is backing if the media decides to take his actions out on them?
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.--Aristotle
If there is no struggle there is no progress.--Frederick Douglass
They're already ignoring them anyway
and that's about the worst thing they can actually do, so...
A progressive platform?
A progressive platform that does what, exactly?
OK. If NBC says so, whatever. Another source said yesterday that Ed Rendell essentially ordered Sanders to either endorse or give up his delegates and sit out the convention (I'll find the link if you'd like). Who ya gonna believe, ladies and gentlemen?
i don't believe anything the media says...
...until i see it happen. between hearsay, rumors, anonymous sources and propaganda i don't know what to believe until i see it.
