Bernie won't contest platform: no floor fight.

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/bernie-sanders-rules-out-c...

Last chance for a progressive platform is gone.

Bernie, age 74, has clearly given up the fight. Sad.

So instead of mourning the end of his run for the presidency I'm going to ask myself what I will do to carry the effort for change/revolution forward. After all it is about us, not him. It's up to all of us to find OUR way to engage and contribute.

“What the herd hates most is the one who thinks differently; it is not so much the opinion itself, but the audacity of wanting to think for themselves, something that they do not know how to do.”
-Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

Bernie knows what happened this past week with the platform votes. His own surrogates were tweeting about the shady stuff that was going on. Yet, he's buying into the talking point that this is the "most progressive" platform in history, which is all but worthless since it's non-binding and doesn't condemn TPP or fracking. Now we get this announcement, which will practically render any protest at the Convention moot, thereby undercutting his own delegates?

This is utter nonsense. Did Bernie really give up all his leverage for this bullshit? Or is something else going on behind the scenes? Did he get promised something that we're not aware of? A cabinet position or something? Because from where I'm sitting right now, it feels like he capitulated for peanuts, symbolism, and empty promises from a proven liar.

When I was a kid, Republicans used to red scare people, now it's the Democrats. I am getting too damn old for this crap!

If it's even remotely true, our hope for returning to a democratic society is dead. As terrible as the Clintons are, I'm not ready to buy into that argument.

What more do you need to convince you? How about widespread election fraud? Or how about an announcement from the director of the FBI that Hillary Clinton is above the law?

Maddow and others just saw fit to announce that he's without secret service protection (gleefully, I'm sure, since they've been bitching about the so-called taxpayer expense for weeks). They've been working up to this scenario from the beginning, starting with the Bernie Bros myth.

In a sane world, I'd say that all sounds like tin foil nuttery. But we're not in a sane world, are we?

I don't think that she has been following the election as much as I have so she thought it was a great speech by Bernie.
I saw one of the emails that was posted here earlier, but this part wasn't in it:

> During the Democratic platform proceedings in St. Louis and Orlando, we were victorious in including amendments to make it a clear priority of the Democratic Party to fight for a $15 an hour federal minimum wage, expand Social Security, abolish the death penalty, put a price on carbon, establish a path toward the legalization of marijuana, enact major criminal justice reforms, pass comprehensive immigration reform, end for-profit prisons and detention facilities, break up too-big-to-fail banks and create a 21st century Glass-Steagall Act, close loopholes that allow big companies to avoid taxes by stashing their cash in offshore tax havens and use that revenue to rebuild America, approve the most expansive agenda ever for protecting Native American rights and so much more.

IIRC, doing anything for social security was voted down, I saw nothing about the DP in it, nor anything about reinstalling Glass Steagall, or that bullshit about closing loopholes on companies that stash their cash overseas to avoid taxes.
Palestinians are still going to be bombed, Israel will still steal their lands and the banks are going to get bigger.
And remember that during the last omnibus bill, congress will allow the banks to take people's money and call it a bail in just like what happened in Greece. Remember seeing pictures of older people sitting on the ground crying because they couldn't access their money?
And wtf would congress put that in the bill if they didn't know that the banks are still screwing us?

is that none of the major/pertinent Soc Sec amendments passed)

If that is an incorrect impression, I'd appreciate it if someone would please let me know. I was not able to watch, or listen to, much of the Committee deliberations.

Guess I'll have to go to the DNC website, to find the final Platform Planks, since my searches yield only the Platform drafts.

BTW, at EB (tonight) there is a video of Keith Ellison with Amy Goodman. He makes mention of the $15 hour minimum wage increase--but without the qualification, 'over time.' I'm going to be watching for that type of misleading rhetoric.

And, as I see it, I'll point it out.

Have a good one!

Democrats win when they act boldly.

And that is exactly what the Democratic Party Platform Committee did this past weekend when passing the most progressive Party platform in history. Included in the platform – for the first time – is protecting and expanding Social Security:

"We will fight every effort to cut, privatize, or weaken Social Security….Democrats will expand Social Security...and we will make sure Social Security's guaranteed benefits continue for generations by asking those at the top to pay more."

If Democrats want to win the White House and win back the U.S. House and Senate, it is time for all Democrats running for office to embrace Social Security expansion and make it a centerpiece of their campaigns.

Sign the petition today. Call on all Democrats running for office to make Social Security expansion a centerpiece of their campaigns.

Expanding Social Security is a solution to our nation’s rising income and wealth inequality. And its near universality, efficiency, fairness in its benefit distribution, portability from job to job, and security, make it the obvious solution to the nation’s looming retirement income crisis.

With 79% of likely voters – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – supporting expansion, and paying for it by asking the wealthy to pay their fair share, it is time that EVERY Democrat running for office make Social Security expansion a centerpiece to their campaigns.

Please, stand with Social Security Works today and call on all Democrats running for office to embrace Social Security expansion.

You have made Social Security expansion the official position of the Democratic Party. Now let’s bring our movement to every race in the country.

Thank you,

Michael Phelan

Instead of wasting our energy on the corrupt Democrats, we should support the Greens. Not another party. This fragmentation is one of the Left's biggest issues, it is why we don't get anything done. We should look at how the NRA operates, as they get things done.

Bernie did not concede, suspend his campaign or release his delegates. He's going to Philly.

Ive said this for months now: define "winning".

Bernie knows those platform concessions were fershit. I think his ultimate purpose at this point is to expose the (D) corruption and light a fire under peoples butts. My feeling right now, its late and Im tired, is that Im #Still Sanders through the Convention. Let this play out.

Democrats worried about potentially raucous floor fights on wedge issues like an amendment opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. That plank was Sanders' top policy goal heading into the Orlando, but it was voted down out of respect for President Obama, who supports the TPP.

...

Sanders' campaign is still gearing up for a fight on party nominating rules, with their top goal being the elimination of superdelegates. The party's Rules Committee will meet just ahead of the convention.

"In terms of the convention, there are still more battles to be waged. We are now focusing our attention on changing the rules of the Democratic Party in order to make it easier for progressive challengers to win elections," Gunnels wrote.

Nope. I'm not buying that anymore. If he hasn't sold out, then why is he writing his supporters to tell them about all the great, fantastic policies he's pushing for in the platform (most of which, by his own admission in the conference call to his delegates, have no chance of actually getting in)... and all we have to do to get that platform is elect Hillary?

No, no, no. NEVER. Bernie's done, and I am done with him. He can start his fake 50-state DFA retread and support more fake "progressives" who will support more Hillaries, but I will be looking elsewhere.

Ed Rendell made him do it. That is the kind of shit that can happen at the drop of a hat now, inside of a day's time. So...from where I sit, old lady that I am, I would love to help you understand what "sold out" means in this context and how this shit actually works in real time.

"Sold out yesterday" would have meant that Sanders just up and gave her all those delegates he busted all our asses to win. He didn't do that. He mouthed a few words, but he did not end his campaign. BIG DIFFERENCE.

So...relax, already. Revolutions do not happen in a vacuum, nor do they happen exactly the way you want stuff to happen when you want it to happen. If you can't be realistic about it, that's your prerogative, but you've come this far. Two more weeks isn't going to kill you.

For the record, I'm going Green, unless something comes to light which allows me to vote R without wanting to jump off a tall building. I will never vote for that woman, and neither should you. But I'm just sayin', we have not been "sold out".

Ed Rendell made him do it.

Oh? Did he have a gun to Bernie's head? Was Bernie wearing puppet strings, perhaps, with Ed up in the rafters? Mind control ray?

No, no. Ed Rendell didn't make Bernie do shit. He can't. Bernie chose. Bernie chose to get up in front of a crowd and a camera and endorse a lying, cheating, sociopathic criminal for President. He's part of the machine now. THAT is what "sold out" means in this context.

"Sold out yesterday" would have meant that Sanders just up and gave her all those delegates he busted all our asses to win. He didn't do that. He mouthed a few words, but he did not end his campaign. BIG DIFFERENCE.

No difference. His campaign is toast regardless. His delegates are dead weight now. He's not going to be nominated - if Hillary dies tomorrow, and someone pushes Biden out a window, and John Kerry vanishes from the Earth, they will still find someone to run who's not Bernie Sanders, and cheat until it sticks. He's not going to influence the Democratic Party - most of what he wanted won't make it into the platform, and Hillary's not going to care what the platform says anyway, which means all the Democrats in DC aren't going to care what the platform says.

I get that there are desperate Bernie fanatics out there that still believe he's winning somehow when he didn't win, won't win, and has thrown away every bit of leverage he could have used to win and still do right by the American people, and are convinced that every mistake he's made or going to make is part of some amazing political strategy yet to bear fruit. Don't be one of them; it's embarrassing. The time for faith is over; persisting must be called obsession now.

And yes, it IS a Mafia-like organization. What they can't win through persuasion, or through lying and cheating and outright stealing, they grab through extortion and threats of force.

THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN RULES.

This was demonstrated over and over and over again all through this perverted farce of a "primary campaign".

They WOULD HAVE stripped Sanders of his delegates and slammed the door in his face. Rules or no rules.

If you don't understand that, you don't understand just how cutthroat "Democratic" (hahahahahahaha) Party politics has become.

Yes, the DNC has shown this year that it is Mafia-like. But that doesn't really change anything, does it? Because if you believe that they can just "strip" people's delegates whenever they want, then you must believe that they can make a deal with Bernie to get his endorsement and then strip his delegates anyway. It becomes a "never negotiate with terrorists" scenario, and if his secret purpose is to expose the party's dishonesty, then when they carry out their threat to disenfranchise him, he wins anyway.
