Trumpeting the 6 to 1 Figure. More like 2 in 10 I say.

6 to one 1 Sanders Supporters will support Hillary as compared to Trump!

Job done!

When put like that, it sounds so inevitable!

However the actual data

“Of those who vote for Sanders when Sanders’ name appears on the ballot, 13% say they will stay home if Sanders name is not on the ballot, 41% vote for Clinton, 15% vote for Johnson, 11% vote for Stein, and 7% defect to Trump,” writes the polling company.

Or read another way

6 out of 10 Sanders Supporters will not vote for Hillary. Well that doesn't sound quite so good now does it? Let's go with the 6 to 1 figure! It makes it so much easier to ignore.

Of the 18% of all voters who support Sanders nearly 11% will not vote for Hillary.

But the survey of 1,408 registered voters reveals limited appetite for this option, which would split the progressive vote. Presented with a four-way choice of Trump, Clinton, Sanders and libertarian Gary Johnson, 35% would vote for the presumptive Republican nominee, versus 32% for Clinton, 18% for Sanders and 4% for Johnson

.

So basically the best case scenario is that Hillary will get about 4 in 10 of all voters.

Funny it also compares closely 2

RCP Average 5/13 - 6/8 -- 38.3 55.7 -17.4
Clinton: Favorable/Unfavorable

OMG, let's stick to the 6 to 1 figure!

So the figure to watch is the unfavourables, the least disliked wins!

Not figures I would be doing the happy dance on the half way line about, let alone spiking anything anywhere but possibly one of the tyres on the bus you are driving, if anything at all.

Once you go beyond the names in this crashing clown car of a political season the only real thing that can be concluded is that both Parties are having trouble convincing registered voters that they represent the people, not just themselves. Thank god for gerrymandering and the vast sums of money required to run, otherwise both Parties might be in deep shit.

So if voter turnout is the usual 55%, then about 22% of Americans will vote for Hillary, or about 2 in 10 Americans.

That's one hell of a mandate!

About $9 billion is going to be thrown at this fiasco.

The only thing I can conclude from this mess is; the more money that is thrown at maintaining the 2 party State the more it will cost the next time around the block to keep it going.I don't think it has anything to do with making them more popular with Americans as a whole and I doubt we will see a voluntary effort by either party to reduce it anytime soon since it's not in their self centred interests to do so.

And decidedly intolerant of even mild critiquing of Hillary, or pointing out holes in her hagiographies. I just landed a 30-day ban for pointing out that she wasn't always in favour of marriage equality (in response to a comment stating that she was, back in the '90s), as well as a comment that CEOs who give political donations expect more in return than ordinary folks.

is really trying to get Bernie to come to the Greens and take the top spot, as she will step back to VP. It sounds like a good idea to me since they're already on the ballot in 25 states and still working real hard to get on more. The infrastructure is there; all he would have to do is just step in and let everybody know!
What do you think?

detroitmechworks's picture

A vote from the party. Of course I think the Green Party would happily switch to Bernie, but I would personally want at least a pro-forma vote taken.

(I've had enough of shady back-room deals. A way that Bernie and Stein could distance themselves from it would be to announce, LOUDLY that they want to do this, but it is up to the voters to decide if they can. Then IMMEDIATELY schedule a party election.)

The latest I read is that Stein contacted Bernie asking him to show up so that they can vote. I guess she feels confident that the two of them on a ticket could get the vote.

A Sanders/Stein ticket would destroy $$Hillary's chances.

But it's not $$Hillary's fault, because she's just an awesome candidate, right?

Ignore those astounding negatives with the general electorate, nothing to see here...move along....

up

And she said "all options are on the table".

Yes, the Green convention would have to approve it, but I think if Stein voluntarily proposed it, the prospect of vastly increased vote count and visibility would be a no-brainer.

The media would castigate Sanders as a spoiler and sore loser, so there's that to consider. However, the MSM seems to be going all out for her anyway.

Nine Billion is a huge amount, except when discussing the Pentagon. Unlike the Pentagon, however, the political parties can't compel the Congress to bankroll their campaigns. The money must come from somewhere.

With recent signals that those with money are becoming cautious about the economy, more surety on return will be sought.

As the recent media support PRO-Drumpf and ANTI-Bernie demonstrated, great political benefits were achieved at minimal costs for both Drumpf and Hillary. All it required to be successful was a careful selection of stories to report with the desired slant supplied. I'm sure that the amount of "convincing" required to bring this about cost far less than $9 Billion DOLLARS! (cue Dr. Evil and Mini Me)

So I expect that the ownership of the media will play a much more prominent role in future campaigns, adjusting their prices for the correct kinds of news stories to favor their selection for our choice rather than squeeze a drying lemon for more juice. The vagaries of the market will demand that all parties make adjustments to assumed past practices as new realities impose themselves, and we already see "news" stories presented which are little more than free advertising for some product few of us want or can afford.

It will be thus with political candidates in the next national election.

or does it include the paltry $millions going downballots to other distasteful candidates? The attack ad writes itself. To the American people: how would you spend $26,000, each one of you? That money went to this farce of a campaign. DO you have better things to do with that money?

each Sanders voter that goes over to Trump offsets one that goes to Clinton, so the impact is not quite so benign, especially in the context of the large % that will not vote for Clinton even if they don't vote for Trump. And Sanders Millennials are going over to Trump in larger %, which is potentially a long term disaster for the Democratic Party- these are people whose first Presidential vote will be for the GOP when it could have been for the Democrats.

I think the article makes a pretty strong argument for Sanders to at least keep his options open- even if Sanders bows out, his help to Clinton will be marginal, whose lead over Trump is presently probably within the margin of error and could easily knock down a few points with only the slightest negative findings by the FBI. I'm not even sure the GOP really wants Trump to win- they are pretty much damning him with faint praise. They might actually prefer a weak, malleable, impeachable Clinton over Trump, but they pay lip service to endorsing him so they can claim that they are nominally Good Republicans.

I love the idea of a Sanders/Stein ticket. Anyone who believes The Establishment is open to change from within must completely ignore the overwhelming evidence of this primary cycle. Yesterday I watched a bit of C-Span's coverage of the Democratic Platform Committee Hearing's dog and pony show. Why do they bother?
