Good morning 99percenters!
A couple of news items and Grateful Dead.
'Game-Changing March for Climate' as Californians Rise Up Against Fracking
Thousands kick off protest to demand Governor Jerry Brown halt toxic drilling in stateThousands of people from across California kicked off a march through Oakland on Saturday to demand that Governor Jerry Brown show "real climate leadership" by halting all fracking and shifting to 100 percent renewable energy in the state.
The demonstration brought together more than 100 grassroots groups, from labor to indigenous to environmental justice organizations, and is being billed as a a "game-changing moment for the climate movement in California." Ahead of the protest, organizers estimated it would exceed 10,000 people.

— Greenpeace USA (@greenpeaceusa) February 7, 2015
The mobilization comes just a day after protesters blockaded the California State Office Building in downtown San Francisco to demand a state-wide ban on toxic drilling.
The mounting protests are inspired by New York's recent prohibition on fracking, which was won through grassroots pressure, and they come amid growing public anger that the fossil fuel industry continues to drill near schools, farms, and homes in the state, using and polluting water despite California's historic drought.
Munich conference: Russia ‘hate fest’ or split between Western allies?
World leaders gathered in Germany to discuss international security on Saturday, with the meeting somewhat descending into ‘Russia-bashing’. But the West showed itself to be more divided than ever on Ukraine, with the EU and US drifting further apart.
The Americans led the harsh anti-Russian rhetoric at the conference, and once again, they did not exclude the possibility of lethal arms deliveries to Ukraine in the future.
Speaking to reporters, NATO’s top commander in Europe, General Philip Breedlove, said that although no troops would be sent to Ukraine, providing Kiev with lethal weapons and equipment was on the cards.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, British Conservative politician and former foreign secretary Malcom Rifkind, and US senator Lindsey Graham notably took a pronounced anti-Russian stance, blaming the Kremlin for the violence in Ukraine.

Good Morning All!
I am just sitting here waiting for it to warm up a bit before I do my morning walk. I have become a real wimp in my old age. I used to run in all temperatures without ever thinking, but now that I only walk, it has to be somewhat comfortable.
It is good to see some new folks join us here. Welcome all!

Morning gulfgal...
the weather's been pretty mild in northern Illinois for this time of the year, I would imagine Florida's pretty nice, huh?
Florida is a huge state
I am in Tallahassee which is practically in Georgia. We had sub freezing temps here yesterday morning. Compared to northern weather, I guess you could say we are mild, but compared to central and south Florida, we are down right cold.
Nowadays, I just wait for it to get into the mid forties before I go out. That is the great thing about retirement. I can set the schedule. Back in my working/running days, I would meet a friend at 5 am to do our morning runs.

Nothing new...
to add today, weekends are kind of busy for me. Welcome new members, snoopydawg and WheninRome! 420 forever and dance you monster have also registered but haven't logged in yet. CantStoptheSignal (SouthernLiberalinMD) has been recruiting this weekend and hopefully we'll get some more new members. Kudos to CStS for the fine job of recruiting.
Now for some meta. This website is the culmination of a effort by our very own CantStoptheSignal (SouthernLiberalinMD) that began several months ago as an effort to create a lifeboat for disenfranchised individuals that felt left out in the cold by the rightward lurch of the Democratic Party. This was very much SouthernLiberalinMD's brainchild and she has expended much effort in bringing us together and is still engaged in that effort. Thank you SLiMD (CStS).
In case you are wondering about the administrative team here at caucus99percent, it is as follows. The administrators are: myself, Cordelia Lear and CantStoptheSignal. The moderator team is: dkmich, gulfgal98, Unabashed Liberal, lotlizard and shaharazade. We want to thank all of you that have joined our oasis and contributed to it's early success. Prost!
Update: A list of tags has been added to the left sidebar.

Just got back home to see this fancy new site up here. Well done, all! Waves to everyone.
Seems I have a lot of catching up to do. Will post more after I get up to speed.

Howdy dance...
Welcome! Glad you made it, make yourself at home.

I'm here
And want to say thanks for the invite. Heads up, my f key is broken and sometimes I forget to spell check it or spell check can't find the correct spelling.
This is a great place for us disenfranchised folks that have gotten fed up with the boot licking of the current administration, and the same people who will do everything they can to try to prove that we are wrong for not licking boots.
And it will be in the 60's here again today so the dawgs and I will go for a long walk before it rains tomorrow
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Welcome...
snoopy and dawgs! We don't need no steenking Fs around here, well, maybe we do for a emphatic adjective or two, so if we see you spell "Euck" that!, we know what you mean. We also don't lick no steenking boots around either, now a frozen metal pole maybe, but no steenking boots!
Hear, hear--thank you, SLMD, JTC & CL! EOM
Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
So True!!!
Nearly every day I come here, there is some new gizmo/app that has been installed to make our experience easier and more rich. Also our numbers are now increasing with some great folks participating. It has all been due to the very hard work of Johnny aka JtC, Cordelia Lear, and Can't Stop the Signal aka SLiM.

You should know...
just about everyone here, mimi. A couple of folks may have different usernames than DKos, but that's where we're all from.
Thanks!

Right on.
Somehow I knew that when I didn't really know it. I actually thought about that after I made my comment of "much respect".
I've made it a habit of not giving respect to those whose politics are of death, destruction and poverty, no matter who they are.
Glad to hear Coach Smith was such a fine man off the court.

Interesting thing here. A TED talk

I haven't watched it yet but it's an issue that I've thought about relative to the internet and how it's impacted an antiwar movement.
I've always dug this song.
Anybody here know "edited"?
Is she (he?) someone who might like our site here? What do y'all think?
I'm asking people aboard, and there's a few that I don't know very well.
"edited" is another.

My $.02...
We're an open site, eventually someone will view our contents that doesn't exactly agree with us. I say invite them, if they fit in, good, if they don't, so be it. But we have to start thinking of this as a public site, IMHO. if we get a troll, we'll deal with that swiftly and effectively, and I think that eventually we'll be tested by someone. So I think it boils down to, do we keep the site open for registration and deal with those consequences or do we close it up and make it private. I vote open.
I agree with Johnny
There are several others I would like to have here too, mostly because I love their writing or their comments.

I'll invite her toot sweet. :-)
And please give me names of people you'd like aboard. I'm almost through with the list I've got--with the understanding that "through" means I sent them one invitation. Those that don't respond, I try a second time.

Okay
One of the first on my list is Phoebe Loosinhouse. She writes really good diaries and would be an asset to this site. I do not know if you have invited her yet.

Our family has a running joke that started back when my youngest was complaining about the new kid at school and I screeched, " Aaaaah! New people. Shun them!"

FREEDOM to the site!!

I just realize that apparently I invited myself
oops, I am sorry for that. If you think you can't stand my blah blah here, I of course retire myself. I don't intend to say much, just read here. I just happened to click on your sig-line link to caucus99percent and realized that it was a brand new site of people I know from the EB. So, I just opened an account without asking for an invite.
Sigh, I always manage to misbehave. If you want me to, I can say something very nasty and you can ban me. Or otherwise someone has to convince me that I am just not in the right part of town here..... and I drive away as fast as I can.

mimi...
don't be ridiculous, of course you're welcome here and you'll fit right in. You don't need an invitation to join, it's an open site so make yourself at home, you're amongst friends. I was happy when I saw that you joined, this is a community much like EB is.
thanks /nt

Hey, Mimi,
I second JTC's sentiments.
You're one of the most interesting commenters at DKos and Evening Blues, for cryin' out loud!
Heck, don't leave--you just got here!
Allow me to be among the first to say "Welcome!"

Welcome to all the cool peeps!
bobswern and gjohnsit~ omg!

Very nice.
Good for YOU! Welcome! (n/t)

Hey, Can't Stop,
at least one of the Kossacks you named has a healthy disdain for corporatist Dems, LOL!
I say go for it!
In the end, it will probably be a matter of 'self-selection.'
Those commenters who don't object to reading unfiltered and accurate information regarding Dem lawmakers, etc., even if it goes against the Dem Party line, will probably feel right at home. Some very partisan Dems, may not. (And then again, some may adjust.) Anyhoo, I suspect that it will pretty much sort itself out.
Hey, thanks for all that you're doing--doesn't look like you need much help (to me)!
Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
Have I got this right? (JTC or Admin)
Did you tell us that we all have the 'Default' setting now--with the complete Menu--unless we go into our individual Dashboards and customize it?
And is the process of "selection" as simple as "dragging" the various topics that we wish to include, into one of the empty boxes?
Much thanks.

Yes...
all the pertinent blocks are there, you can arrange them as you wish, stack them all on top of each other in one region if you want. Play with and you'll get the hang of it.
Thanks, JTC--I'll give it a shot. N/T
