Street Prophets, Open Threads, and Good Manners
I have been writing for Street Prophets for over 6 years. It existed before then but that was when I discovered it. This is our mission.
Street Prophets is the forum that mobilizes progressive people of faith to name, discuss and take action on critical political and religious issues. So come on in and make yourself at home. We believe that most, if not all topics touching on faith and politics are appropriate on Street Prophets. While this forum represents people of widely differing (and often directly conflicting) theologies, our goal here is to focus on forwarding the progressive political discussion that our shared values make possible. The Street Prophets blog was originally founded by Daniel Schultz, a ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and Markos Moulitsas, as an offspring of Daily Kos. Street Prophets seeks to change the "moral values" conversation by fostering community; promoting informed opinion and moving its members to action. We are believers in "justice, freedom, compassion and love," in the words of Rita Nakashima Brock. We are progressive, Democratic-leaning and vitally concerned with those whom Jesus called "the least of these." We are the faithful for whom the religious right emphatically does not speak. Its vibrant community of netroots faithful includes a broad range of faiths, including devout Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Atheists, Animists, and Neo-pagans. All who seek to promote a new conversation about the role of religion in America's public life are welcome here.
Our Coffee Hours are always open threads so people can talk amongst themselves about what is going on in their world. One thing we always maintain is civility. We always acknowledge the diarist even as we expand to other topics. We practice good manners.
It had been suggested that I publish my Coffee Hours here as well. I've also been asked if I could try and bring some of the Street Prophets people here. I had been thinking of asking Ojibwa and Marcos the Werelynx and a few others to join us here but after yesterday that isn't going to happen.
In the six years I've been doing diaries I have never been totally snubbed in the replies. Not one person acknowledged my diary or the jewelry I showed. I live on Social Security and have to try and supplement my income. All of you went directly into politics as on the Front Page and couldn't even bother to say hello, nice jewelry, thanks for writing. I don't mind if other topics are raised in the replies but all I felt from the replies was a big FU. I will not allow that type of rudeness towards my friends.
Comments
I'll say hello, I'm sorry if you were ignored, the site has been
a bit iffy over the last few days. If you want a chat I'm all ears [well fingers and eyes anyway]
Me too...
Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I do try to recognize people who post here and at other blogs. The only good thing about dailykos was its sheer size. The difference in blogs is sort of like the difference in living in an extended family vs. a nuclear family. As I child, I lived in my grampas house with my parents and a couple of uncles, a counsin and an aunt. There was always someone around to be with. In my current and very nuclear family (I have an only child and she has three sons) I'm down to getting text messages for b'days. My husband still isn't sure about that.

add the open thread tag to your tags and it will queue up in the open thread board in the right sidebar and will get more exposure. There was a lot of down time and sporadic connectivity here the last two days.

While I float both sites
I've gotten to mainly reading on here those that are posted on both. I uprate you and Robyn here, but generally no longer there.
There are a few places I slide into over there yet. As a Kansan Chris Reeves has better and more current news than the local paper. And darksydes and Meteor blades articles. Can't give up my morning cuppa with the MOTley crew. MOT reposts at Flowers for Socrates, but everyone hasn't transitioned.

Objiwa's Indians 101
That is a must read for me since I have enough Cherokee in me that my Dad was able to register all the kids. Plus his photo diaries are so restful. It is the only way I'm ever going to see Ireland or Scotland. Although I should have asked him to find out who designed the Wilson tartan and how drunk was he when submitted that wretched design.

Oh, yeah,
Ojibwa's columns I usually hit, too. Not just Indians diaries, I've enjoyed all of 'em.

i've
commented in your essays. Heard nothing from you.
I Try
I try to comment in my diaries however I am a 24/7 caregiver who has been down with pneumonia for the last 3 weeks. Sometimes I don't get back until the diary has dropped off. I always try to answer any questions that are asked. I'm sorry if I failed to answer your reply.

FWIW, I seldom participate in Street Prophets unless some
really compelling topic catches my eye, as you no doubt know. However, even if I did, yesterday wouldn't have been the day, because I was fighting tooth and nail to try to get some stuff scheduled and the site was driving me batshit crazy. I suspect many others were having a lot of grief or just avoiding the place too because of the overall site troubles.

blame the site, heh!
Conspiracy Theories
Oh every time I couldn't get on I just continued with my conspiracy theories of Kos's Hillarybots breaking into your code and posting "love hillary" no matter what was typed.

For a while...
I was thinking that too.
For a while only? I was thinking that all along
and still do, as I have told you here.
And I told you that the evil doers will not win. That's why I need a mailing address so that I can keep up with my promise.
Conspiracy theories are my religion. So, I think I placed them in the right spot here. /s
Down with the evil doers. Down with conspiratorial thinking. Down with everything satirical./with apologies to Michelewin.

Monty Python?
But I grew up on Monty Python. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?

And I am totally not grown up on Monty Python
and learned all about them only through posts here and the other place. They are funny, if I can understand what they are saying that is...

I have trouble understanding British shows, too.
It'd be easier if they didn't speak English.

I tried to read threads, gave up due to site maintenance.
It is wonderful to see the Street Prophets on this corner.

Hi Michelewyn, I am sorry for this,
there was no bad intention from my side to just drop into your diary yesterday a couple of news stories which I didn't have another Open Thread for on Sunday Morning.
It was a bit bumpy around here, so that adds to the "bad manners" appearance. The site acted up and you never knew when you had the next chance to get in. In addition some people are right now with their heads very much somewhere else. Please do not take that personally.
I am sorry to not have said Hi to you before I posted my links and recognized your jewelry. Please forgive me.
I need an Open Thread as a dumping place for any sort of article I read and like to share. I kinda was confused if your OT was an OT or not. But as there was no other, I just ran in and dumped my stuff. It's a lot to read right now.
I try to remember my manners in your next diaries and I am sorry to have offended you.
But it should be clear, if your diairies are an Open Thread (in the sense that open means all kind of news posts can be added into it like in the other Open Threads or if it's an Open Thread or not. Thank You.
https://www.euronews.com/live
It Wasn't the Open Thread
that upset me. We intend it be open thread. What upset me was that I have always felt that you can post what you need to in open thread but do acknowledge the fact that the diarist put an effort into putting the diary up there. Just a simple thank you and then post whatever you want.

I understand and I am sorry it happened /nt

Thanks
Thanks to everyone who responded. Sorry if I came across too bitchy. I'am a 24/7 caregiver whose last full night of uninterrupted sleep was in early October 2013. Like everyone else who solely depends on Social Security I am hurting financially. They claim because Reid makes "too much" and I am not entitled to help since he lives with me. We are over $10,000.00 in medical debt and that doesn't count the last ambulance run to Emergency. I have severe arthritis and may have to have surgery on both thumbs which are locking up and the right foot where the second toe completely crosses over the big toe making it difficult to walk but I still have to deal with my brother and a wheelchair. The art and jewelry are to try and raise extra money so I can afford to have someone care for my brother for a couple of days so I can do outpatient surgery and recover.

let's try a serious fundraiser after the Tuesday primaries
and lets make an effort to list all people here on c99p, who are in similar situations and make a statistic with them about them. We could send an open letter to Sanders and ask how in the hell Bernie Sanders can help to end these conditions. He could use those life stories as his campaign material to make it into an open letter or little video about it. Medical bills and medical conditions like yours and others should not ruin people's lives like that. Since ever I had read stories similar to yours on dailykos and it's just a recurring issues year after year and it never ends. It's just not right.
Let's try it. Don't give up.

I assume your brother is an adult.
They can't legally hold you responsible for your brothers bills or debt. I worked with a lady. Her father had dimentia. He had to go into hospital. When he was ready for release, hospital said is he being released to you? She said NO. She could not and would not take him. It made her feel like hell, but by refusing, the hospital had to find a placement for him. She of course never abandoned her dad. She just refused financial and other responsibility so the state had to do what it had to do instead of "dumping" (I hate to use that word) their responsibility on her instead of assisting him. I had another work pal. Her brother had mental illness and needed a placement in a group home. Everytime he was hospitalized, they tried to put the responsibility for his care and placement on her. She refused too. As I said, neither abandoned their family. They just asserted their legal rights. Good luck to you.

An Adult
He is also totally disabled. He lost a leg due to his noncompliance with his diabetes. I have POA and MPOA and am officially his caregiver. He makes just enough so we can squeeze by but sometimes I am robbing Peter to pay Paul. I can't afford the apartment without his SSDA and he doesn't make enough to go into a nursing facility. Legally I'm responsible to pay his bills from his income but I don't have to pay his medical from my poverty level Social Security.

The necklaces are gorgeous! I have a few, cherished.
And yesterday was unsettling. For us all.
Please try to block off time for surgery and another day or two more for recovery! After a certain age...things slow down. Best wishes to you and brother from another Hoosier expat.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
You tried to get anything done here yesterday? You are more
determined than I! I had to abandon the place, the pokiness was driving me crazy.
Unfortunately, I am also broke. But I went and looked at yesterday's diary and I really like your jewelry. It's very funky and unique. Where do you get the things to put together into unique designs? Is it all made in America with American materials? Because I think that would be a selling point.
I think in all likelihood, had the site been active, you would have had many more responses and some would have discussed your diary and jewelry. I learned something new, I had no idea what steampunk was. I hope you get enough orders that you can take a couple days at least!

The older I get the more I appreciate the East Asian exaggerated
traditional courtesy and politeness thing.
What price Westernization, if it means constantly noticing after the fact that one has been unwittingly rude or uncouth and hurt other people’s feelings?
Compared to Germany I learned to appreciate
the courtesy and politeness of the Southern style in the US, which you find often here in the DC area. This kind of politeness doesn't come naturally to me, but after a couple of years I started to enjoy it. Just can't give it back in the same way, I always stumble over myself, and stutter a bit, when I try to be kind and polite.

jewelry for fathers? Cufflinks maybe?

Father's Day
I don't really have jewelry but what I do have for Father's Day is over on my Fine Arts account at http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-michele-wilson.html. I have art and photographs that they can also put on cell phone cases, t-shirts, and other things in addition to prints. If you hit the galleries they separate into different types of art and photographs.
