6 BCE
Was the Year of the Consulship of Balbus and Vetus
Emperor Augustus sent ferrets to the Balearic Islands to control the rabbit plagues. (The islanders were great slingers so it made sense for a military empire to cater to them.) I wonder if they were folk slingers, or more formal?

{and note at least to me the comment logos?/ icons? seem to be re-ordering themselves}

I ahve not tried that with different country's coinage? Is that a Universal rule now? Can we mix&match?

the coins have identical diameters; we're really talking about any 7 identical circles.

I would assume they merely appeared to touch on all sides. Under enough magnification there'd be a bit of slop involved. Kinda like the disappearing leprechaun and magically growing carpet by imaginative cutting. An easier way to think of it is to remember using a compass to cut a circle into six equal pieces. One tends to think they're just sloppy in scribing the lines since they don't come out exact. But 6 is 2x3 not 2x3.1416.

the effect of pi cancels out. It is real, and relates to sphere packing. Here is a link to a brief discussion:

thanks for the OT. I hope you are well and have a good "day before the wwIII started". (just kidding). I kind of have had it with numbers. Nobody seems to be able to count these days. A lot of new rules about proving that 1 + 1 = 3. I am giving up to prove those rule changers wrong.

Have a nice day with new arithmetic messing up your lives.

And for heavens sake, support Sanders like there is no tomorrow. Because if there is a tomorrow and Sanders gets rigged out the primaries due to the new arithmetic, you literally might get a very bad tomorrow that will remind many of the bad yesterdays.

Obviously the stress levels of writers and readers are too high to be ignored. Therefore ... that should help a bit.
Here comes the sun to lift your spirits:

I suggest to have a flashmob organized in Philadelphia, may be one of the most non-violent way to protest the rigged electoral system, outside. Bring your instruments and gather to sing like people in Madrid's unemployment office did.

We have a beautiful blue sky with bright sun this morning around my neighborhood. I am going out.
Have a good day, all.

In the wild I have seen them predatory after marshmallows, not an important dietary component except on bayou boat tours in Louisiana. In the sun, through duckweed. Which sounds like code words for something.

Enjoy your day, here in the desert triple digits, which means nearly twice as hot as 3 months ago. That's the best I can do on sixes this early in the day.

Most of "proofs" of stuff like 1+1=3 have a disguised improper step, such as dividing by zero, where the zero is disguised, like by being presented as an equation.

If you haven't yet seen Heist:Who Stole the American Dream you can watch it now for free. It was made in 2012 and available for purchase but the producers have now uploaded the full film to YouTube - Heist on YouTube. It's got an all-star cast, cheer the heroes, boo the villains, great fun.

P.S. - D-Day ? Shit. The Second Front was only opened after the Germans were totally beat and on the run. Later that summer Army Group Center was destroyed in Byelorussia but "the Allies" thought they should be first into Berlin.

in JtC's blog tadris yesterday. 2015 again. It was hot here in Portland 103 degrees yesterday in our neighborhood which is sometimes called Sunnyside. With all the desert dweller's here I shouldn't complain but it was damn hot. My veggie starts in 4 inch plastic pots and flats of unplanted, plants made it through the heat. On Wednesday I'm going back to gardening in the times of crazy climate change. After Wed. it's going to be in the 70's and 60's for a while.

Our senile, grieving old cat moved outside on Friday night to the hottest part of the yard and made herself a nice bed on a table with the potato seed units for her pillow. Yesterday I kept going out to see if she was still alive and at noon drug her back in the house and shut her cat door. She loudly objected. I let her back outside when the temperature went down to 87 at about 10 o'clock. Today it going to be a cool 93. I'll bring her in at 4 in the afternoon.

I cleaned up my bookmarks purged a lot of my old favorite 'progressive' haunts that have lost there collective Democratic minds. Went searching for sites that aren't in the bag for The Mad Bomber. I also organized my computer files while JtC slaved away fixing the bugs or whatever he did. We have 'cool boxes' in the windows upstairs in my office so me and the cat chilled at a comfortable 80 something upstairs. Thank you so much JtC you are a geek wizard and a real mensch. A uncommon combo.

Have a great day everyone. Good to be back to 2016. Well, maybe not as this worst of all election seasons is getting revolting. Thanks for the OT EL I like you numbers. My parents were fans of the Weavers and I grew up listening to their LP's. They used to go to folk concerts but they stopped as it was threatening my Dad's security rating for doing 'defense' work.

I'll take you there..
