L.A. Times "Who gives money to Bernie?" - With interactive map!
Submitted by Alphalop on Sat, 06/04/2016 - 9:02am
The L.A. Times released an Article yesterday that does an amazing job of illustrating who, where and how much money was donated to the sanders campaign.
The map narrows down the donations received by zip code. (Image below is a grab and not the actual interactive map)
Both the article and the map are worth checking out.
Seeing all that green in California really has me optimistic about Tuesdays results.
I have cleared my schedule for Primary Day, it is supposed to be raining all day too so I will just have to sit indoors and host my live election watchers blog with you guys I guess. (sigh)
I am willing to bet that this may be the most attended one yet!
See you guys Tuesday!

I guess this means that all the smartest people vote Sanders. :)

Very helpful for the next Primaries
As you say in CA, but also looks very good for NM and Montana.
NDakota not bad, SDakota rather weaker than I'd like.
However, neither is a hotbed of progressiveness and are mostly open, so should be good Anti-HRC voting.
NJ is pretty consistent across the state, so things should be doable there.
I am also really relying on the fact that since HRC "Is the nominee no matter what" her supporters won't feel any sense of urgency to get out and vote, since she has it "wrapped up" Tortoise and the Hare sort of thing.

I was really surprised by how well he did in the non-coastal SW
as well.
States that I traditionally think of as being Red or Purple are coming on pretty strong for him.
I would like to see a side by side with Hillary. I imagine the glow from Wall Street would drown out the rest of the map.

Kinda like here in Northern MI... bunch a damned old hippies. White, and male , of course
Lately, based on the types of comments from the media and TOP
It sure starting to feel like white males (particularly old ones) are a scourge worse than a plague of locusts lately. Maybe we need to get rid of them since they are causing all these problems.
Not to come off bitchy about it, but the whole "Old White men" thing is getting, well, old.... I don't quite fall into that category yet, but am rapidly approaching it.
If any other group (not just racial, but ANY) was collectively lumped together and shat upon as much as this one, people would be outraged on the left, and rightfully so.
But for some reason that is not the case when it comes to OWG's. I suspect it's because it gives us a "Safe" target for our rage and further divides us so we are not fighting the real enemy, the Greedsters....
Personally, I don't care what the hell your color, age, sex or lack thereof, etc are as long as your ideas are sound and your compassion is strong.
I have met some 18 year old voters that were far more knowledgeable about politics and the state of the world, even if we were on the different end of the spectrum, then some of my friends 3 or 4 times their age.
Stupidity, ignorance and greed come in EVERY flavor, so lets stop pinning it on just us old white guys.
Fortunately, you really don't see too much of that stuff here, yet another reason our community kicks ass.

I thought we accepted people how they were born...
Unless they were born 'not a woman'.
Unless they have a pigmentation of skin classified as ' white.
Unless they were born with heterosexual preferences.
It's the accepted group to turn into the other and demonize. Don't be racist, or sexist, but it's acceptable for this group because they are one homogenous group and they all are rich, and at the center of power, and guilty of something - even if they aren't because excuses and stuff!
At least you're being acknowledged enough to be shat upon.
We're getting ignored out of existence. W4B is a big group, yet "Bern's followers are old white males"!
But it's all kitchen sinks. They just feel they have to throw every insult they can think of. Which tells everyone the real state of their policy issues, which they will not discuss.

I too was pleasantly surprised to see my little section of FL
Was in the darker green area as well.

Not accurate for my zip code
Looking up my own zip code it says total donations $25. I know that isn't true because both my son and myself have donated much more than that from this zip code. My first donation was $100 months ago so it can't be because it hasn't been updated lately.

Were the donations directly to him or Via ActBlue?
I believe the tally was mostly pulled from Actblue since that was where 90% of his donations came in from.
If you gave more than $200 directly to his campaign it might show up, less than that not sure. (as they are only required to report donations above that amount made directly to the campaign if I recall correctly.)

There is green everywhere
On that map. That is what made me happiest to see. And since wealthier places gave more, seems obvious to me that only the super-rich and Wall Street are worried about his financial policies impacting them in a negative way.
What is that darker green line in the East? Is all of
Appalachia feeling the Bern?

Does look that way.

Very interesting
Nice find and thanks for posting Alphalop!
Interesting and revealing. Three things stood out when I checked my state (Va):
1). A large portion of the dark green areas were found in areas where there are institutes of higher learning, indicating both intelligent and young people.
2). Almost no dark green was found in Northern Virginia which, while being widely acknowledged as the "sine qua non" insofar as Democrats winning the state, is also the home of the wealthiest segment of the population of Virginia, and is largely comprised of "wine and cheese" establishment types, i.e. Hillary supporters.
3). A very impressive amount of dark green was shown along both proposed paths of two contested natural gas pipelines in the western and west-central parts of the state, where intense battles are being waged against both the pipelines and fracking. This is encouraging.
Nature is my religion; the earth is my temple.
I hope the rain holds off.
Rain would drive down turnout and that could crimp Bernie's results.
Huge support from the Rockies to the West Coast.
In writing about the Civil War, Churchill observed that in US national elections the North and South traditionally split, and the outcome is decided in the West, the West at that time being Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, etc.

NM is a poor state, but I see our people are donating to Bernie too.
