“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”
― Upton Sinclair
In the more than 6,5oo+ days that we've occupied Afghanistan, the United States has spent $2.4 trillion and wasted the lives of 2,433 military men and women and another 1,143 allies. Not to mention the tens of thousands of civilians that we've killed.
Yet we still see headlines like this one.
How much would you pay to hear Hillary Clinton speak? $5? $20?
Would you believe $50,000?
I just got an email from Common Cause stating that we are only six states away from calling for an Article V convention to amend the US Constitution. Scott Walker former governor of Wisconsin and the American Legislative Exchange Counsil (ALEC) are behind this.
The alleged sarin gassing of Khan Sheikhoun by the Syrian army in 2017 was the trigger for Trump's first cruise missile attack on Syria. The MSM uniformly and immediately blamed the episode on Assad. But independent journalists - including Sy Hersh and Robert Parry, arguably the greatest of our time - as well as MIT expert Dr. Ted Postol, were extremely skeptical.
Something to keep in mind…
Living in Two Worlds: Capitalism Pretends All Is Well While the World Is Burning: An interview with Dahr Jamil Truth Out 8-20-19
Global capitalism demands we pretend all is well, while climate and political realities already reveal the end game we are living in. The U.S. government, along with many others in the western world, has lurched into overt authoritarianism, while climate chaos accelerates at a breakneck pace. How do we live in both worlds? In this column, each of us reflect on our own process of coping with this existential schism, in hopes that our experiences might be of some help in grappling with the grave dilemma we all share.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wasn't supposed to win.
The establishment wanted the corrupt, anti-Russian President Petro Poroshenko to be re-elected.
Zelenskiy is liable to do something unpredictable.
Electability. You can have the best platform and positions in the country. However, if you haven't a prayer of getting elected, the quality of your platform and positions may be at least a somewhat moot point. IMO, they would not be totally wasted: They can influence the national conversation, aspirations of voters, etc. I believe that Sanders' 2016 positions did that. But, a great platform and great positions plus "electability" should be a dynamite trifecta, no?
