Album of the Week 8-12-23

Afternoon folks!

I've dragged some more good stuff out of the basement and cleaned it up - starting off with a great Chicago blues album by mandolin and guitar player Johnny Young backed up by Otis Spann and James Cotton (neither of whom need an introduction here i'm guessing). After that, there's a compilation of Magic Sam recordings. Then it's on to some blues rock with albums from The Elvin Bishop Group, The J. Geils Band and Foghat.

Following that there's an album by a later line up of the Flying Burrito Bros. and some New Orleans rock from The Radiators. After that there's a compilation of jazz-blues from Tiny Bradshaw.

We finish up with a jazz album by Bennie Wallace featuring (who'da thunk it?) Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dr. John.

Enjoy!

Friday Night Photos Old Town Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. You know the drill, post any photos, memes, or music you like.

The camera club I belong to went to photograph the Victorian homes at Heritage Park in Old Town San Diego Tuesday morning. When we finished we walked over to the Old Town Mexican Cafe for lunch. I tried to capture a little of the flavor of Old Town along the way. With good weather, good friends, and good food it was an all around great day.

Some info on Old Town San Diego.

Open Thread - 08-11-23 - Flight of the Albatross

The Amazing Albatrosses

They fly 50 miles per hour. Go years without touching land. Predict the weather. And they’re among the world’s most endangered birds.

This is a story of a series of long distance flights, not of the feathered variety, but of the wasteful human kind.

We recently ordered, on-line, some new stainless steel grates for our gas grill. They were shipped via FedEx from Missouri City, Texas. Missouri City is 18 miles from Houston, Texas, give or take. Since we live within one hundred miles of Houston and all FedEx packages in our area are delivered from Houston it would stand to reason that it would be a very short trip from Missouri City to Houston and then to our doorstep, right?

Well, think again.
