Diaries

Too soon?

What a crazy few weeks we've had since the CA primary. It's seemed like our political world has collapsed around us. The urgency of politically based solutions to so many dire problems like climate change, energy independence, financial industry instability throughout the US and the world, endless war in our name, jobs or rather the lack of stable, adequately paying ones, feeding and housing everyone, and on and on hasn't lessened. The problems are still there.

DO NOT TRY TO HAVE A DNC 2016 DRINKING GAME

WITH THE FOLLOWING RULES

Drink when:

1) someone says "...Hillary understands..."

2) someone says "...defeat Trump..."

3) someone says "...the most important election...."

4) someone says "...build a wall..."

5) someone says "...first female president..."

You will die of alcohol poisoning before the evening is over.

Jane Sanders Interview with Rolling Stone

I don't have much to say...it's worth reading, as usual. Jane has impressed the heck out of me this last year...especially over the Oak Flat deal (our little local hell that we had been fighting against with little success until she heard about it.) She gives a lot clearer picture in this interview than any of the speculation we have all been reading for the last couple months. They are not giving up the fight...even though they are not taking it the same direction most of us are.

Video News Open Thread: Stephen Colbert and the DNC, Days 2 and 3

Cat Video Montage by ec.jpg

Welcome to Video News! My apologies for no official DNC video news open thread yesterday. But Oreo the Diabetic Pootie had a crisis at 3 AM yesterday, so Ginger and I were up half the night. Oreo and Ginger seem to have recovered in full, so we have resumed normal function.

Gratuitous Oreo and Ginger photo:

i'd just like to state my freelings

i don't like me some clintons. that's been borne out by my four posts here on the internet about how i completely don't like me some clintons over the last four days.

but seriously, if we expect to hop over to the adult table, we'll pretty much have to vote for clinton

clinton is the smartestest, bestest smelling, most female candidate we have. and i say that as an utter misogynist.

I will not be swayed

No amount of fear mongering can make me vote for evil. Voting for evil is voting for evil, no matter how great or small.

No person who proudly proclaims that they will sacrifice their values for "the good of the country" will ever convince me to sacrifice mine. They are my values because they are things that truly matter to me. If a person is able to cast aside their values so easily, then I feel those values had little meaning to that person.

A National Voice

At some point today, Sarah McBride will speak for five minutes on the stage of the DNC and become the first transgender person to speak to a major party convention.

Preparatory to that event, Sarah spoke yesterday to Katie Couric of Yahoo news and Katy Steinmetz of Time magazine.

I am moved and inspired that there will be a chance for someone on a stage at a national convention to say that they are a transgender person. And my hope is that for anyone who is watching, who worries that their dreams and their identity are mutually exclusive, who worry about whether they can be accepted and succeed as who they are, that they can find some comfort and some hope in the fact that a person will be standing on that stage saying those words.
