HUD regulations for transgender people in homeless shelters
Submitted by Robyn on Wed, 08/17/2016 - 2:02pmThe Department of Housing and Urban Development has been finalizing its rules for the treatment of transgender people in shelters and the new regulations are scheduled to be released in September.
The new regulations are expected to require homeless shelters that receive federal support to treat transgender people as members of the gender with which they identify.
Transgender women are women regardless of whether they were born male.
If you’re a transgender woman and you walk into a homeless shelter and they treat you like a man, it’s traumatizing. These people are already vulnerable, they’re homeless, they don’t have a job. To face discrimination the entire time they’re there is a real problem.

Acronyms
Submitted by JtC on Wed, 08/17/2016 - 12:02pmI've had several requests to have an acronym list here at c99p, on top of many complaints in the comment threads. I personally do not have the time to compile an acronym list and then update it as new ones pop up. I'd like to propose that someone volunteer to start an acronym essay that will be a running alphabetized list of common acronyms used here. A master alphabetized list can be compiled in the essay body and as folks want acronyms added to the list they can mention them in a comment. It would then be up to the essay's author to add them to the master list. I can then add a link to the acronym essay somewhere in the menus.
Any volunteers?

The ACA is a complete joke on US citizens. (We are not fucking consumers, we are citizens, asshole!) The idea of “affordable” healthcare through over priced health insurance, is nothing short of a bad fucking joke. The linguistic gymnastics has got to stop.
