Why?

A couple days ago, as I reading my local news website, I came across an article about how a company is genetically engineering wolf genes and has created 3 supposed instances of the extinct (for tens of thousands of years) dire wolf. These three white wolves are living in an undisclosed location in the USA. I suppose I should be excited about it. But I'm not. My main question is 'Why?'.
