Every once in awhile the pollsters, who no doubt recognize their outsized voice as megaphone-bearers of American political opinion, ask the American public -- when it's least important -- this big question: "Does the US need a major third party?" This one was back in early 2021:
Okay so full disclosure: I haven't seen the movie "Don't Look Up." I don't have much patience for movies; I tend to reduce the whole of a movie to the director's viewpoint, and resent the restrictions upon my imagination imposed by the medium of film (as opposed to print, in which I am obliged to imagine nearly everything depicted).

Fredric Jameson says in a 2003 text that:
Someone once said that it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of capitalism.
While the Repubs blunder around Zapp Brannigan-style, the Dems grant us corporate malice a la Mom. No?

I feel privileged to be a part of continuing dialogues and debates here and remind myself on this Martin Luther King Day that the stakes are high for all of us who struggle for change.
