In my regular reading of Sputnik News to read about incidents in Oregon that do not show up in the local news sites ( such as May 16, 2023 Photo: US F-15 Eagle Fighter Jet Crash-Lands in Oregon Drainage Canal) there are other interesting tidbits about the US I missed at other news sites.

Morning.

One of the books I have been reading is Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto. A bit of American history hidden in the mist of time after official records had been destroyed. The original Dutch land claims originating from a search for a Northern Sea passage to Asia became the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and included parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The religious and political conflicts of the 1600's England was reflected in her North American colonies. Virginia territory supported the Anglican King, Maryland the Catholics and New England was settled by Puritans and Separatists. No English colony wanted the Quakers. Religious tolerance was part of the Dutch colony communities, including New Amsterdam on Manhattan Island.

It seems time to contemplate placing one's hope in the courts to moderate a just society to live, work and maintain a government for the people. One of the methods to change government styles around the world in addition to trade, diplomacy, corporations and military conquest.

In 1644 the Manhattan colony in New Netherlands sent a letter to The Hague court complaining of an incompetent governing official assigned by West India Company and requested authority to create a more liberal form of government - a republic. In 1647 the official answer came with a newly appointed leader and four ships of soldiers to enforce the rules. (The Island at the Center of the World, 2004)

Learning the skills to grow ones own food has always provided a comfort of some level by being self sufficient or a better educated purchaser. Most commonly thought of as a vegetable garden, my definition includes kitchen craft and animal husbandry. A good loaf of bread and glass of beer requires carefully growing yeasts in the proper enviornment.

Old memories keep peculating up while observing the current happenings on the world stage. My early years I was surrounded by animals. Every home my folks took me to had at least a dog and a cat living inside. Some had a domestic animal menagerie rivaling the one my parents created on our acreage. Every day skills were developed two way communication with cattle, horses, ponies, bunnies, feral cats, pigs, geese, ducks and chickens.

Carefully watch a small child talking to an animal and the two way interaction is apparent.
Effort is usually being made by both participants in the conversation to understand messages being conveyed with different communication styles of body movements and sounds.

HA HA the joke is on us.

As the power of the Presidential executive branch has grown and usurped congressional authority the power of the individual elected president has decreased.

President Jack Kennedy wielded enough power he was assassinated. His brother Robert killed to prevent his acquiring presidential power. By the time Trump came along there were plenty of methods to diminish the ability of a sitting president to govern. An international medical emergency created new opportunities to by pass a president. Biden has shown the human mind elected to the position is not too important, just need a warm body to walk to a podium and speak occationally. Being able to stay on point with a teleprompter is no longer a requirement.

I have re-wrote the opening of today's diaries many times mentally and on the keyboard. Normal frustration of trying to sort and organize an uncomfortable subject. It is similar to the one many families face with an older generation - are they still competent to drive on public roads or take care of their own finances. Is it time for an intervention or at least a discussion?
