Ry Cooder

Album of the week 9-27-25

Afternoon folks!

Another week, more stuff for your ear buds to sample. Starting off, we've got Big Daddy Kinsey's tribute album to Muddy Waters, followed by an album by Ronnie Earl with significant parts of Muddy Waters' band including the great Pinetop Perkins who really shines on this. After that we've got an album from Alvin Youngblood Hart that sadly didn't get the attention that his breakthrough album did. Then we've got Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder in their younger days with an album retrieved from the vault and resurrected. Finally, there's a later album from Levon Helm full of great stuff.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 9-20-25

Afternoon folks!

It was a short week for me, and I didn't upload as much as usual, however, there's still some great stuff here. Starting off, there's a great classic Chicago blues album from pianist Otis Spann with a bunch of great sidemen. After that, we've got an album from Chicago harmonica player Big Wheeler and another one from country/blues artist Tracy Nelson (formerly of Mother Earth). Finishing us up is a fine album from Ry Cooder.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 5-20-23

Afternoon folks!

Well, there's a bunch of good stuff this week. There's some zydeco to get things rolling with a compilation of Clifton Chenier's Arhoolie recordings. After that Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder do their best impression of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee - not to be missed! Doc Watson follows up with a mid-60's album and we change pace after that with Osibisa. Osibisa is a band from Ghana and worth a listen. Following that there's some rock with Foghat and some rock/prog with The Tubes to finish things off.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 10-29-22

Afternoon folks!

Well, here comes another mess of good music. There's a greatest hits album from Louis Jordan and a compilation of great stuff from the ABC/Bluesway label. There's a classic blues-rock album from John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers that features Peter Green and John McVie before they formed Fleetwood Mac (the good, early version), there's a live (recorded in '72) album from Savoy Brown and an early 70's album from Paul Butterfield. The diversity this week is provided by Goose Creek Symphony, Ry Cooder and Steeleye Span.

Enjoy!
