The sheriff of Wake County, N.C. is reconsidering the dedicated assignment of his police officers to protect school children and teachers, as a result of a standoff with school administrators, who he accuses of not adequately defining the district’s policy on transgender children.

US Magistrate Judge Joi Elizabeth Peake has delayed federal court proceedings concerning the North Carolina HB2 law for six months "while the U.S. Supreme Court considers whether to hear a Virginia case on transgender restroom access."

Instead of a court date in November as had been scheduled, the case will be pushed back to next May.

At the end of last week a US District Judge Thomas Schroeder issued a preliminary injunction that says two students and an employee at University of North Carolina campuses must be allowed to use restrooms matching their gender identity.

US District Judge Thomas Schroeder heard arguments today on whether he should block enforcement of HB2.

Opponents of HB2 argued that it deprives transgender people of "respect, dignity and equal access to public facilities."

Judge Schroeder was asked to put the law on hold until after the trial on its constitutionality is held in late October/early November.

Challengers to the law include the US Justice Department and the ACLU.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a worker identified as Jonathan Wolfe against Bojangles Restaurants, Inc. Wolfe was employed at a Bojangels in Fayetteville, NC.

According to the release, Wolfe "was repeatedly subjected to offensive comments about her gender identity and appearance. The belittling statements often demanded that Wolfe, who identifies and presents as a woman, engage in behavior and grooming practices that are stereotypically male, because that is the sex Wolfe was assigned at birth."

The release said derogatory comments about Wolfe continued, even after she had reported them on at least two occasions.

Wolfe was fired shortly after complaining about the statements.

Superintendent Ann Clark of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools announced today that transgender students in the system can be called by the name and gender they choose and may have access to restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity. The district conducted training with school administrators on the issue today.

So, there has been an incident in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg School District.

A trans boy who is a student at Olympic High School had to use the restroom. The school district has plans for a designated facility, but it is not ready yet, so the trans students used the boy's restroom. As the student pulled his pants down to use the toilet, a cisgender student walked in on him.

That student saw the image and immediately walked out.
