OT WE 9 SEP 26 - meanings change

No fanfare today. Trying to write this on an iPad. Limited utility. Does no copy/pasta and no
Second widow function. Can’t wait to get my new laptop up and running. Till then, use this
Space to create your own magic!
Awoke this morning with a thought. Have you noticed how the meanings of words change?
Definitions of concepts and ideas also transform. I think this is a ploy by the PTB to keep us
Confused. More mentally pliable to fit their pet agenda de’jour. What say you?

Good morning...
Been out and watered his AM. TPTB are calling for no rain at least for two more weeks. At least the temps have moderated a bit.
As to changing meaning of words, we were warned...
Take care. Good luck with the new device, and thanks for the OT!

Don’t envy your drought
Or heat. A bit humid here. Not too pretty bad. Stay cool.
Hope your well holds-up.

There is no justice. There can be no peace.
The meaning of
the word "voting" has certainly changed. Here in colorful, flammable Colorado, we all wait with bated breath to see what der Orangefurzenwolkeführer and his MAGAts do to fuck up our perfectly functional vote-by-mail system for the midterms. If I get a ballot at all, I'll vote by dropping it off in the county lockbox, as I have done for the past many cycles. But that's a big "if".
Speaking of changing meanings, I'd love it if the dems decided to run Thomas Massie in the '28 Presidential race. That's a campaign I could get behind, for two reasons: 1. he is not the average empty suit, and has some actual populist gravitas; and 2. it would force the dems to finally and publicly rip the band-aid off and admit that they are in fact no different than the repubs. That'd be fun to watch, wouldn't it? He might even win.
Oh, well, a guy can dream. Carry on...

Good morning Cap'n Q. Yesterday was supposed to get to
91, so our place got up to 100 or 101. Today it os supposed to get to 96, so that probably means at least 106 here. My wife was already out at the crack of dawn watering whatever needed it except the stuff we water with ollas. If tomorrow looks to be more of the same we just might run out to the coast. Made a potato & chard scramble for breakfast so now have to run the hood fan for a bit to get the temp in the vicinity of the stove down a bit. Looks like another day doing stuff indoors. I do, however, have to go out and get the birds fed.
Reports of Iran hitting US bases and such in Western Asia, but just in passing so I have to look for information on that, or just ignore it for now and see what comes up later today. Have some layout and glue up work to do, but it has to be done outside if I do itany time in the next two weeks, so I don't thing I'll get started today.
Somebody put a "Donald J. Trump Memorial" sign over the entrance to a public toilet up in Canada. Sounds like a great idea, he does want his name on stuff.

It's hot here in the lower left, too
It was 103 yesterday and it's already 107 at noon today. But, hey, at only 21% humidity it's a dry heat.

I have no idea how to define antisemitism.

Invisible bridge?
...with typos. Must have used a computer translation. Spellings change too! There are typos in both Korean words in Russian Federation, not just one. So I'm guessing it's a Russian made sign. Rashid added another note to this effect. I say invisible bridge, because it is contended that it's more difficult to observe and estimate military commerce across the bridge to and from Russia than by other means? I'm imagining that would be by sea.
Mainland China's "bridge to Kinmen" threat or opportunity?
China "threatens" construction of a new bridge to Kinmen island just 3 km off the Xiamin coast. Kinmen was subject to a fierce military bombardment from China in 1958. However, they could not take the island due to a lack of naval forces, and the presence of US air and naval forces in the region. I have read elsewhere that in 58 the US seriously contemplated nuclear war at the time. Ike disapproved. Evidently, Ellsberg was the source of this information.
US military considered using nuclear weapons against China in 1958 Taiwan Strait crisis, leaked documents show
It's quite doubtful that China could construct a 3 km long bridge to Kinmen without a formal agreement of some kind with Taiwan. The current DPP administration would be unlikely to support this. It does make one wonder if this topic was raised during the KMT leader's visit to mainland China not too long ago. If they took power, could it happen? One contrast between the Taiwan issue and the stalemate on the Korean peninsula, is that a great deal of trade and cross border travel goes on between Taiwan and the mainland. It militates against the constant war talk coming from Taiwan media and for even more constructive relations. 90 percent of tourism in Kinmen comes from the mainland.
This video in Korean below is a report by a South Korean reporter who observed the recent military Han Gwang exercises in Taiwan which were basically a preparation for emergency situations that might arise during a mainland "surprise attack" on Taiwan. I don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing. The google English subtitle translation is quite good. The graphics at the outset of the video show the bridge plans to Kinmen and then the intensity of Chinese strikes on Kinmen Island in 1958. The photos which I haven't seen before were remarkable. I understand the Strait's crisis at that time also involved the Matsu islands, under Taiwan/KMT control. I tried to set it up with the English subtitles (settings button auto translate, select English). The rest of the video shows the military exercises of the so called "strawberry army" operating in Taiwan city venues. The reporter claimed the more recent heavy tank imports from the US were assigned in a manner they were there to protect TSMC fab facilities.
The first 8 minutes cover the Kinmen island bridge plan and the historic bombardment of the island in 1958 with interesting graphics:
Hi Q! Thanks for the OT. I was very distressed when some hacker destroyed my newer computer a few months back. Then my regular old one started dying later when I moved here and I had to buy another. I'm still having a few problems with the ms 11 transferring JPG and PDF files from other operating systems. I've got to parse out how often I ask others more savvy than moi to help me with the fix.

Heh. Richard M. Nixon, the candidate (at the time) had a real
bug up his about Matsu; specifically Quemoy & Matsu. In the debates he couldn't shut up about them.

Yeah, having to start from scratch
is a real bummer. Have a few P/W and U/N memorized and a few notes to
that effect printed out. The over-arching goal is to back-up files on a more
regular basis to a thumb drive. Just got the "new" MacBook Pro so it is off
to the races. Use an outfit in Tampa which refurbishes devices. Have had pretty
good luck with them so far. We will see how this one configures. Always something.

Thx Q
...for the tips. Now I know what to ask daughter for a bday gift. I'll ask for one of those small back up hard drives that she used to help me restore my old files. It had an amazing storage capacity. I don't know how she did it but she saved a fair number of the old PW's as well.
Good luck!

Hola Q. It's the ECFL character

Hope you had a decent Labor Day. I got back from running some errands and heard this one on someone's radio.

my Labor Day sucked
intense lower back pain on the verge of passing out. Not sure what brought it on
but spent part of the day in emergent care yesterday to get X-Rays and a couple
of scripts (prednisone and lidocaine patches). Better today. Perhaps an external
drive is a better way to go. Took years to build my data, gone in a flash. Losing stuff
is hard at this juncture. The replacement Mac is circa 2005, so a bit aged, but am familiar
with the OS (this is my 3rd). Oh well, persevere I guess.

That flock crap is scary
another step towards the opticon. The pre-crime surveillance meme did not
fly very well. If people are that afraid or insecure just bolt your doors and stay
inside. Except for your teevees and devices, you should be free and safe. Do
most people even understand this? Total situational control is the goal. We are
still a bit away from that. They've yet to figure out a way to read our thoughts
but I'm sure AI is working on it. The programming is progressing apace.

According to Trump we will be stuck with elevated gas prices
until November.
Oh, and he has now claimed
that the war will end immediately after the election, as well...
