Gentle Giant

Album of the Week 5-24-25

Afternoon folks!

Happy holiday weekend! We've got some stuff to amuse you for a bit, here. Starting off with some Chicago blues, we've got a live Junior Wells album from the 60's followed by an album of Otis Spann tickling the ivories for you. After that it's on to the father of British blues, Alexis Korner. Then it's back to Texas for an album from a fine guitarist Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, after which we bounce back to Britain again for a live album from Chicken Shack later in their career. After that we've got some folky/acoustic kinda blues from Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan which segues nicely into a classic album from Leon Redbone. We finish off in the diversity department with some prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great holiday weekend!

Album of the Week 4-26-25

Afternoon folks!

This week we start out with a couple of albums from blues harmonica players, Snooky Pryor and Sam Myers, followed by some serious acoustic country blues from John Jackson. After that there's Gil Scott-Heron's double album of jazz and blues from the bicentennial era. Then it's on to blues-rock with two albums featuring guitarist Peter Green, the first at his peak from his tenure in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and then a late career album from him. Finishing us up is an album of prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 3-29-25

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got a bunch of good stuff, starting out with a couple of classic albums. The first is John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat's early 70's double album and then there's an Etta James album from 1960. Following that is an album from the somewhat obscure rock 'n roller Roy Head followed by a more recent album from a fellow local to me, Big Joe Maher, who is an excellent drummer and vocalist. After that there's some Funkadelic and a somewhat peculiar but amusing album from King Curtis. You may think you know country music, but you ain't heard nothin' until you hear King Curtis do Tumblin' Tumbleweeds. Heh. After that we've got some rock from Alvin Lee (formerly of Ten Years After) and we finish up with some prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 8-24-24

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got some great blues for you from Percy Mayfield and a compilation of Texas women blues singers with diverse styles. After that in the blues rock category, there's an album from Texas' Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintet, an (imo) overlooked excellent album featuring Robin Trower and Jack Bruce, a late 80's album from Savoy Brown and a kind of peculiar album from Ten Years After. We finish up with some prog-rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
