A tip o' the hat to Naked Capitalism's Lambert Strether today for including a link to
Last month I posted a large article on American School Economist Henry C. Carey, The only economists who ever created a national economy.
From Naked Capitalism. After covering the weakness in consumer spending, the Republican threat to the health care Industry, silicon valley, energy and fracking Jim Chanos summarizes:
It could all just be a soft spot in an ongoing expansion — time will tell. But the narrative we were told is that animal spirits would take us to the next level of economic activity. That clearly is not happening in mid-2017.
Those are the words of Chokwe Antar Lumumba, the mayor-elect of Jackson, Mississippi, and my new hero.
"This is Chokwe Antar Lumumba celebrating his general election victory with supporters."
MAYOR-ELECT CHOKWE ANTAR LUMUMBA: Free the land!
SUPPORTERS: Free the land!
MAYOR-ELECT CHOKWE ANTAR LUMUMBA: Free the land!
SUPPORTERS: Free the land!
MAYOR-ELECT CHOKWE ANTAR LUMUMBA: By any means necessary. I need you to stand strong as we go forward. There are people who doubt your resolve, doubt that this city can be everything that it will be. And so, you can’t give up now. I say, when I become mayor, you become mayor. So that means y’all got some work to do.
Here's a very useful graphic of different schools of economic thought.
The two questions for this test are:
1. Are there any other schools of economic thought missing from this graphic?
2. Which of the schools of economic thought have actually resulted in creating a functioning national economy with some degree of general prosperity?
November 6, 1860. Abraham Lincoln has been made President by a 39.8 percent plurality of votes. The Democratic Party had split in two over the issue of slavery expansion during its national convention in Charleston, South Carolina in late April.
It is becoming a constant struggle to combat despondency, as I watch USA Democratic Party leaders shuck and jive, wriggle and squirm, to avoid having to accept any responsibility for their disastrous and destructive neoliberal economic policies of the past half-century. It's a tragedy having Donald Trump as President, with reactionary Republicans in control of the House and Senate.
Contrary to the current narrative, China has been instrumental in keeping the US economy viable for the middle class. As our economy has stagnated or collapsed for Middle America, China continues to produce goods for consumption in the US that helps to maintain our lifestyle. The narrative is that China stole our good paying manufacturing jobs. And this is true just looking at the data. Most of our retail goods today are made in China.
History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme.

At some point we are going to have another economic bubble burst.
It's inevitable. It's what we do.
So to stay in practice, let's play Spot The Bubble.
