Doc Watson

Album of the Week - 3-25-23

Afternoon folks!

There's some cool stuff this week. Port Arthur bluesman, Phillip Walker leads off with an album, followed by Taj Mahal playing some fine acoustic blues. After that Doc Watson with Merle and some friends plays a bunch of fine bluegrass. Following that it's back to blues rock with The Flamin' Groovies, Roy Buchanan and Chicken Shack (featuring a fine, underrated guitarist Stan Webb and keyboard player Christine Perfect, later Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie). Some prog-rock follows that with Curved Air and we finish off rockin' with The Radiators.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 1-28-23

Afternoon folks!

Another week, another fine mess of blues. This week there's some old country-blues banjo style from the 20's. Dock Boggs was an early country blues player and you'll find lyrics and patterns in his music that show up in later blues compositions. There's also some more modern country blues from Doc Watson.

There's some serious Chicago blues from Eddie Taylor. There's a bunch of blues rock from Roy Buchanan, Free and Evan Johns and the H-Bombs.

There are also albums from Emmylou Harris, It's A Beautiful Day and Renaissance for a little variety in your listening.

I will be adding tunes to the Dock Boggs, Doc Watson and Eddie Taylor playlists. the former sometime next week the latter two over the weekend.

Enjoy!

Butte, Montana - Hope Faded for Twelve Missing Men in Pennsylvania Mine Fire

Hope is faded, and, by some accounts, lost for the miners who remain missing in the Pennsylvania Mine. This latest disaster follows, by only four months, the disaster in the Granite Mountain shaft of the Speculator Mine. On October 16th of last year, a mine car filled with 500 pounds of dynamite ignited in a massive explosion which instantly blew seventeen miners into eternity.
