OT WE 19 NOV 25 ~ Black-out

that profits off our pain, exploits our labor, and buys our politicians.
The upcoming commercial frenzy associated with the holidays is in full swing. Sometimes
referred to as "black Friday", it is supposed to be a boost to retailers that have seen flagging
sales. Shaking out the consumers. Don't buy it. Keep it in the red.
This is a neighboring organization organizing a boycott. They are advocating to only shop
local small businesses and avoid the online / chain conglomerates. Maybe put a dent in the
gears of the machine? I know of several local artisans and craftsmen presenting goods at
various venues in this spirit during the next couple of weeks. See how it works.
The national group is called 'Mass Blackout' which is a collective of various organizations
around the country. May be worth a look.
Open thread so fire away with whatever ammo you have.

Hiya, good morning
.
.
On this day in history:
1620 -- The Mayflower reaches Cape Cod and explores the coast
(hell on the natives)
1863 -- US President Abraham Lincoln delivers his Gettysburg Address,
starts with "Four score and seven years ago..."
1917 -- Indira Gandhi was born somewhere in India
2017 -- Charles Manson died after working for the devil about 83 years
What's up?

Good morning...
The boycott sounds like a good idea, but I bet many consumers will shop to try to save a buck with the hyped sales. We are easily led by a few dollars waved in our face.
I liked otc's comment the other day to the effect of we can still seek inner peace, world peace is far far away.
The bill to release the Epstein files is only for unclassified documents. I bet they classify all the meaningful ones and it ends up being a nothing burger about like the JFK files. The political theater distracts us for another round.
I've got one more round of mowing all the wildflowers I let go through the fall...now freeze bitten. Cleaned up leaves yesterday in the yard around the house where I plant ryegrass for a patch of winter green. Still more leaves to fall, but the the fallen leaves were smothering my grass, and I set it free. If we get the Friday rain they are calling for it would help.
Well hope everyone has a good day, and thanks for the OT!

It is an attempt to counter the
.
hype associated with 'holiday sales'
a savvy consumer will realize the prices
of good will actually drop nearer said holidays
due to retail desperation before the end of the year.
After all, it is just a date on the calendar. Always found
the best deals were in January anyway.
Tried rye grass seeding a few years ago, but didn't take
for whatever reasons. Could be my lack of a green thumb?

I’m in.
I will be buying nothing on Black Friday, with malice aforethought.
Truth be told, we are boycotting the holidays altogether, other than a very small, slightly festive private Thanksgiving for just the two of us. We will be celebrating our mutual survival to date. There’s not much else to celebrate right now.
Be safe out there.

A worthy reason to celebrate
.
Survival is good. Same here.
Small gathering here for turkey day.
No TV, so no football distraction.
Easy jazz music playing softly from the box.
Just food and friends.
Manageable.

Well, if I might suggest
one slightly more uptempo Christmas song for the playlist (to mix in among the mellow jazz), it'd be this one... (;-)

Wonder if you have heard of this

new to me, but find it a worthy endeavor.
