Sadness

open thread_27.jpg

Dealing with a sick kitty tonight. Not feeling good about it.
Spencer has been our companion for 16 years and we have enjoyed every moment of it. He has travelled with us all over the western US.
But his health is failing him and come tomorrow we will have to make the decision we have been dreading for a while now.
I know there are a lot of animal lovers here, so you know what we are going through. We are losing a family member.
Anyway, I don't want to start an open thread with such a sad beginning, but it's hard to concentrate on an interesting subject.
So, how 'bout them Astros? I saw Ted Cruz there gloating, but he got an earful from the New Yawk crowd. He got a real whuppin' on "The View" too.
In 2016 there were 16 Republican contenders for Spokesperson for the United States Government, and he was one of them. I'm certain he will run in 2024. How many will throw their hat in the ring this time? Trump probably, unless underwater teams blow his legs.
Anything goes now, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Deep State has a bonesaw crew now. Hell, it worked for the Sauds ok.
Apparently, between the Iranians and the Russians, they have perfected the AI driven drones that just circle around until their target appears. Then Boom!
Skynet is here. In the movie (Terminator 1984) Reese came back from 2029, so, ahead of schedule are we?
I saw a report of a ME terrorist leader taken out with a drone that homed in on his cel phone when it was turned on, then Boom.
Doesn't really encourage me to rush out and get a chip inserted under my skin just to open my car door or pay for coffee.
Soon we are going to need a sequel to the book 1984. Highly upgraded to the 21st century.
Maybe a new "Time Machine" where we are the Morlocks hiding from our own government. I shouldn't give Cruz any ideas.
Thread is open.

once said "The price of love is grief." That certainly applies to our critters. We outlive them, and we miss them, and we grieve. It is hardest of all when we have to help them on their way over the Rainbow Bridge, and it never gets easier.

A real and underappreciated problem is that grief compounds: whatever the source, today's new grief simply seems to add to the burden of yesterday's. All we can do is to know that we gave them the best run we could, and that we were there for them throughout it all, and try and work through all our grief- from all sources. It is a lifework.

Hang in there- you aren't alone. Our 16-year-old kitty miraculously survived the fire, but is now failing as well, and we'll be right where you are in short order. Be safe out there!

Can't really discuss US politics much, the Lesserevil Jackass Party, should his body still be animate, will no doubt run the feeble minded one, and the GQP will strive mightily to find somebody yet worse. I will, as they say, "throw away my vote" again, the only question being "on whom".

Meanwhile my garlic is coming up (my shallots not yet), it is getting much cooler and winter, such as it is, is sneaking up on us. Our furnace has been coming on a bit now and then and menu ideas gravitate toward soups and stews plus, of course, pizza, pasta and other all weather dishes.

a bit worn out from the last few days project(s), so today will be light work all day to try to get some of the kinks and knots out, some of it outside with the boids and lizards, which will be pleasant, especially if I sneak in some standing around tryng to figger out what's next time.

So here's to fall, I guess

@enhydra lutris

I was at physical therapy for my new knee last Thursday, and had a setback. I was doing one-leg-presses on a stair at the direction of the Torquemada, and partially tore my quadricep in the middle of a repetition. Yow, that smarted! So I've been just trying to get it happy over the weekend, light-work style, and haven't been able to do much that I'm supposed to be doing. Trying not to backslide.

"Rub some dirt in it and shake it off" just gets harder to take as we get older, dunnit? It gets harder and harder to walk things off...

not to put myself through the sadness of outliving another pet. I want a horse. I want a dog. I want a burro. I want my 17 yr old cat to live on and on. But as ufs says, the grief is cumulative.
Maybe you and your spouse are able to move beyond this horror by getting another wonderful cat. Whatever you decide, know that all of us here are supporting you with kind words, kind thoughts, and cyber hugs. Extend your hand, and we will hold it to our hearts.

Losing a pet is a pain non pet people do not understand. The unconditional love we get from them is something so pure it’s hard to put into words.

We may lose their physical presence, but they live on in our heart and memories and we can revisit them any time we want and remember our special bond with them.

Take care

Lost my two old dogs this summer. They were 89 and 102 in dog years so we knew it was coming, but that didn't make it hurt less.

I'm with others here who say remember all of the nice stuff.

Pets are lovely.

Soon I will be having to make the same decision about my beloved dog. It hurts, it sure hurts. My best to you and your family with these sad times.
