The DNC changed their debate rules for Bloomberg

Raise your hand if you're surprised by this.

Bloomberg was a republican for years and the keynote speaker at the RNC convention during Bush's tenure.

Tulsi, Steyer and Yang are not invited.

Im sure that he's not the only one.

More than 1.7k agree with this.

Good question.

Hmmm....

But Bernie ain't no democrat!

Well except for the years Mike was a republican.

From 2011:

Michael Bloomberg is the 21st-century Monopoly man, minus the monocle, who peddles information and influence instead of colorful real estate. After David Koch, Bloomberg is the second richest businessman in New York City. (At the time of his 2009 reelection, however, he was number one.) Bloomberg also happens to be the mayor, and based on his rare dig at President Obama on Monday, it looks like he's already thinking about the possibility of taking his political ambitions to the national stage once his third term as mayor is up in 2013. For other clues as to what Bloomberg will do after he's finished running New York City, there's the latest issue of Newsweek which features a forward-thinking look at Businessman Bloomberg's privately owned information empire. It's become an increasingly dominant media force that is rumored to have its sights set on acquiring its first newspaper, the globally powerful Financial Times. Probably because of the article's timing — it's been less than a week since Mayor Bloomberg cracked down on the Occupy Wall Street, knowingly enforcing a media blackout of the midnight raid and arresting reporters in the process — the theme of one man's ballooning power is disconcerting for three reasons.

I'd like to think I would have the guts to tell Joe to keep his hands to himself. How many times has he done that and why does he think he can?

True

@snoopydawg tweet made me tear up.
So, my staunch rightwing pal was railing about Bernie and Medicare for All.
I had to gently remind him that: he spent his entire inheritance, and had to wait 3 years to find some appropriate insurance policy, for his beloved wife to get her hip replacement surgery, which happened yesterday.
He is into Fox News, Drudge Report, and has an enormous picture of Reagan in his home. I saw it. Some framed poster.
He is convinced socialist health care simply doesn't work, that if they were Canadian, they would have waited...3 years!...to get her surgery!
I think right wingers believe if you pay for it, it is the best in the world. If it is covered by a Socialist program, it is sub-par.
He mentioned people come from the world over to our US doctors. I mentioned to him that RICH people from the world over do that.
He is living the capitalist nightmare which just this week took his small inheritance, because Fox and Drudge and Reagan.
I JUST bought him a vehicle, after his got totaled in a crash. And stand ready to do anything for him and his wife in their time of crisis.
I just have these short, really gentle, discussions from time to time.
The indoctrination of tv cannot be overstated.

"You don't deserve to have affordable health care!" People who plan to vote for Joe, Amy, Pete and Liz are saying that they can afford to vote for them cuz they are comfortable money wise. All of their plans keep millions of people out of getting health insurance. And the let's work on the ACA won't admit that congress has no intention of making it better because they have not done a damn thing to do so since it was passed.

It depends on if other candidates call him out on being a Republican through and through.

If I was Bernie I would skip the debate. Bloomberg or not, they'll gang up on Bernie.
It's CNN again. Right?

@gjohnsit

First off because of how he was treated during the last one. He denied saying that to Warren, but the twit turned around and asked her how she felt after he said that? Right then he should have walked off the stage. And that wasn't the first time he's been treated like that.

Second reason is because of how Tulsi has been blocked from them. Even though she qualified for them. Same with yang. This is supposed to be a way for people to get to know what people are running on. Lousy platform yes, but every person running should be involved.

This crap with Bloomberg should be the final straw. The debates have been setup to make Bernie look bad. Just because ByeDone pulls it off doesn't give them a pass.

@snoopydawg person in many ways, but I just LOVE the fact that Warren is tanking! That really cheap shot against Bernie sent me over the edge, like that woman gives one shit in hell about real misogyny. Quite frankly, Misogyny to me has become almost a dirty word due to her and all the other crackpots who scream that at any sign of non worship of their latest neo liberal loving sell out heroine.

We are going to rig the primary to keep Bernie from becoming the nominee.

A small group of Democratic National Committee members has privately begun gauging support for a plan to potentially weaken Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and head off a brokered convention. In conversations on the sidelines of a DNC executive committee meeting and in telephone calls and texts in recent days, about a half-dozen members have discussed the possibility of a policy reversal to ensure that so-called superdelegates can vote on the first ballot at the party’s national convention. Such a move would increase the influence of DNC members, members of Congress and other top party officials, who now must wait until the second ballot to have their say if the convention is contested. “I do believe we should re-open the rules. I hear it from others as well,” one DNC member said in a text message last week to William Owen, a DNC member from Tennessee who does not support re-opening the rules. Owen, who declined to identify the member, said the member added in a text that “It would be hard though. We could force a meeting or on the floor.”">A small group of Democratic National Committee members has privately begun gauging support for a plan to potentially weaken Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and head off a brokered convention.

Ya think?

If, on the second ballot, superdelegates were to throw their support to someone else, tipping the scales, many moderate Democrats fear the upheaval that would cause could weaken the eventual nominee.

Weaken hell peoples are flat out saying that they will not vote for Biden and a great many won't vote for Warren either. Bloomberg? Forget about it

@snoopydawg

Oh, Politico just reported that certain elements in the DNC are now looking to change the new rules to make sure the nomination goes to a brokered convention via a second ballot where superdelegates' votes kick in . . .

See: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/31/dnc-superdelegates-110083

This, from the Politico report, kills me:

Even many vocal opponents of the move to dilute the power of superdelegates after 2016 aren't interested in revisiting the decision.

“My side, including me, we lost the debate,” said Donna Brazile, a former DNC chairwoman who sits on the body’s Rules and Bylaws Committee. “I don’t believe it’s wise to re-open a wound once it has healed.”

@Lily O Lady I am sitting here wondering what Bernie's next move would be.

How about saying that if Bloomberg is allowed that Gabbard, Yang et al should be invited, or he'll boycott it? Especially if it's on CNN.

@Bob In Portland and finally begins calling out Joe directly and forcefully on his SS/Medicare/Medicaid calls for cuts. Also how about he call out the debate mods for their usual GOP/RW-slanted questions.

In any case, Bloomberg being allowed an opening to get into the debates will dent Biden's support most of all and therefore will benefit Bernie. So he should definitely show up and show some fighting spirit.

@wokkamile Maybe the DNC knows how deep Biden is in Ukraine and they know how hard Trump is going to ride it into reelection, so they've already decided it was time to move from him. Or they hadn't realized that his dementia is even more advanced than Trump's.

In any case, I suspect that even a lot of the people who stood with Hillary in 2016 won't stand for this bullshit.

Mike will put back on the pretty face of US hegemony that Obama wore. Bush 2 looked like a dumber version of Reagan, but Obama was right to bomb countless countries, put SS on the chopping block and everything else he did because he was charming and had a charming family. Remember all those diaries of his charming family that someone posted over the posted and if you questioned his policies in them you were called a racist?
