Who's Rodney Stooksbury? Someone Who Ran As a Dem in GA's 6th With No Money But Got More Votes Than the $30 Million Dollar Man, Ossoff. Where's Honest Gil When You Need Him?

Hey C99 Family...

I don't really have an essay here and I don't want to waste anyone's time, so apologies in advance. I've just settled in not long ago to the AC after a full day out with the infant Boy, and three cans of beer later am catching up with some of the news today.

But I've just had a serious, from-the-belly laugh and need to know: Am I reading this right?

This Neoliberal hack hopeful who blew in the wind with couldn't adequately identify his principles beyond "Trump/Russia!,Trump/Russia!" - and basked in record-breaking amounts of money from panicked and desperate Democratic Party operatives, actually received LESS votes than "a mysterious candidate named Rodney Stooksbury spent just $346 to win more than a third of the votes cast in the 2016 general election for Georgia's 6th congressional district." (sorry for the CNBC link)

Local CBS Atlanta affiliate says, "he is virtually unknown" and has "no candidate picture, website, Facebook, Twitter nor LinkedIn account."

But Ossoff was a serious candidate, I'm told. Damn, I wish I hadn't missed Nate Silver's gold star assessment:

Polls conducted before Tuesday suggested that Handel and Ossoff were running in a near tie in a potential runoff. In an average of five polls conducted since mid-March, Ossoff held a scant 0.4-point lead over Handel. A formula created by my colleague Nate Silver based off previous runoff elections3 also points to a tight runoff. Combining the lean of Georgia 6 on the presidential level over the last two elections (9.5 percentage points more Republican than the nation), Ossoff’s margin over Handel (28 points) and the aggregate margin of the Republican candidates over the Democratic candidates (2 points), Handel is favored in the runoff by less than a point. With the relatively wide margin of error on this calculation, this is the equivalent of a tossup.

In other words, get ready for another two months of exciting Georgia 6 coverage! Tuesday was just the beginning.

Two months of exciting Georgia 6th coverage? Hot damn! Good thing we've had Nate for the past year or so. Oh wait, he got more than a few things wrong about the 2016 Dem Primary. What was it about those exit polls again?

And what about monopoly tycoon Bezos's (add Whole Foods to Amazon, etc) WaPo, doing a little "cross-promotion" with the Pestilent Neoliberal Cesspool, aka Daily Kos, for some Democratic Party insider analysis.

It’s certainly true that Georgia’s 6th Congressional District is more favorable territory than the Kansas 4th, where Democrats made a run at stealing a seat left vacant when Trump elevated Mike Pompeo to run the CIA. (The 6th is vacant because Trump tapped Tom Price to run the Department of Health and Human Services.) But it’s still a Republican-leaning district, as made obvious by Price’s 2016 victory — he won reelection by 23.2 percentage points — and the fact that Trump won the district, according to analysis from DailyKos. But Hillary Clinton, Trump’s Democatic presidential rival, did much better there than one might have expected, trailing Trump by only 1.5 points. If we compare the Cook Political Report’s Partisan Voting Index for the Georgia and Kansas seats with the 2016 results, the Kansas 4th is squarely in line with how you’d have expected Trump to fare (as indicated by the dashed trend line). The Georgia 6th isn’t; Clinton overperformed.

The real takeaway has to be, can the Daily Kos Democrats really compete with such a juggernaut as Honest Gil?

$30 fucking million.

Yeah, yeah. It was a presidential election, so Stooksbury got votes because of that. But given the frothing hatred of Trump and Neoliberal meltdown being given 24/7 coverage in the MSM, you'd think all that dough and high profile coverage could at least turn out some serious "McResistance" style numbers. Nah.

No message + Tons of money = Mitt Romney/Hillary Clinton/1000+ state, local and federal positions the Dems have lost.

Man, can these blatant corporate whores be any more pathetic?

It's hilarious these flunkies keep doing the same thing, over and over and over again, and expect different results.

was a presiquisite and got you a job in the political circles or being considered the tool to get elected. And to be honest, it's not hilarious to see the flunkies doing the same thing over and over again and expect to "win".

It's making so many people silently angry and as Paul Simon said (see hungeski's diary) anger makes you an addict, and being an addict means you are enslaved.

Who wants to be a slave? To be a slave or not to be a slave, may be that's the question?
I just saw this googling ...

“Faustus: Stay, Mephistopheles, and tell me, what good will
my soul do thy lord?

Mephistopheles: Enlarge his kingdom.

Faustus: Is that the reason he tempts us thus?

Mephistopheles: Solamen miseris socios habuisse doloris.
(It is a comfort to the wretched to have companions in misery.)”
― Christopher Marlowe, Dr. Faustus

and

“If I wasn't a devil myself I'd give
Me up to the Devil this very minute.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust

@mimi The money goes into the pockets of professional consultants and ad copywriters and television stations. These succubi feast no matter what the outcome. Even if no Democrat ever gets elected, they are on the gravy train. Until the donors realize there is no need to pay graft to that party because they never win. But occasional wins are all they need because the donors are either incredibly wealthier than Midas or are donating corporate money (i.e. not theirs).

I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.

@The Voice In the Wilderness I guess they are "prohibited" by bylaws or something, why is this information excluded from most recent autopsy articles? Maybe because it makes the DNC Class Action lawsuit bell ring a little. Ding! Or maybe I missed it.

Currently, the Democratic Party of Georgia is prohibited from endorsing or supporting a Democratic candidate who has opposition during a primary or Democratic opposition during a special election. However, leadership of the Georgia House and Senate Democratic Caucuses may opt to support incumbent legislators.

They really do believe that money can buy everything. And having too much of it can certainly purchase a lot of delusions...

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

to describe these people.

From Mirriam-Webster:

not having or showing an ability to absorb ideas readily: forgive me for being obtuse, but I wish you'd explain that to me again

Synonyms: airheaded, birdbrained, bonehead, boneheaded, brain-dead, brainless, bubbleheaded, chuckleheaded, dense, dim, dim-witted, doltish, dopey (also dopy), dorky [slang], dull, dumb, dunderheaded, empty-headed, fatuous, gormless [chiefly British], half-witted, knuckleheaded, lamebrain (or lamebrained), lunkheaded, mindless, oafish, stupid, opaque, pinheaded, senseless, simple, slow, slow-witted, soft, softheaded, thick, thickheaded, thick-witted, unintelligent, unsmart, vacuous, weak-minded, witless

Related Words: cretinous, feebleminded, simpleminded; boobish, foolish, idiotic (also idiotical), imbecile (or imbecilic), moronic; ignorant, illiterate, lowbrow, uneducated, uninformed, unintellectual, untaught, unthinking; absurd, asinine, balmy, cockeyed, crackpot, crazy, cuckoo, daffy, daft, dippy, dotty, featherheaded, fool, half-baked, harebrained, insane, kooky (also kookie), loony (also looney), lunatic, mad, nonsensical, nutty, preposterous, sappy, screwball, silly, tomfool, unwise, wacky (also whacky), zany; fallacious, illogical, invalid, irrational, unreasonable

None of them do the trick. For some reason I think obtuse has a certain stubbornness to it that isn't transmitted through any other of these apt words.

I've been to Charleston and driven through SC over the years. There were signs in sports bar equating $hrill and Bubba with the Devil. Mind you, this was Charleston back in the 1990s when Billy-boy was POTUS. We don't have a word for how deep red that district is. It makes east central FL look like lefty liberal heaven. Parnell obviously lives in his district, is a SC cracker and knows his neighbors. He almost pulled off a MAJOR COUP winning there with no big money!! You can bet the Repukes sat up real straight and took notice. Where the H*** were the Dim-o-crats? Rec'd!!

Hope you and the baby had a good outing together.

There is a huge message here. No campaign gets more votes than the Cecil B. DeMille production put on by the corporate Democrats.

Run as Republicans, pour a shit ton of money into that campaign (as opposed to the progressive candidates in KS am MT), lose, and then claim a "moral victory" because this time they did SOOOO MUCH BETTER than when they ran a possibly fictional candidate whose "campaign" spent practically nothing in the 2016 race.

Yay Blue team!

Americans would be much better off voting for the candidate with the LEAST amount of money, regardless of party.
