When is the flashover ?

This election seems to have brought things to the surface. People are tired of working all the time just so they can meet (or miss) their existing bill payments. These same folks make up the consumer class. A financially, physically and emotionally drained group proletariat does not bode well for the future of our country and planet. I pity the millennials who are so screwed with what we have left them.

In the US, we have been told that political change comes when individuals participate and vote. Economic change comes when individuals pull themselves up by their boot straps, work hard blah blah blah. Spiritual change comes when we look inward to self examination. Haven't we exhausted the ideology of individualism ? We have a government of narcissists, an economy without opportunity and little or no time for spiritual growth as we are tending to physiological and physical needs (with a hat tip to Maslow).

I am not one to advocate violence. In fact, I despise wars and the bullies that create them. But my question is, when will people become violent to create change ? At what point will most people recognize the dead end our society has become and insist on becoming a collective conflagration ?

I hope.Do I want it to burn? No more than I want a forest fire to burn. But I'm thinking we need a back burn(or three) to remove a LOT of scrub that's just cluttering up the joint before the whole thing ignites and burns down the house. We can carry the metaphor on, but you get the gist.
Vets for NoDapl could be a match to sear the conscience of the american populace if they are truly nonviolent and do not push the First Nations leadership aside. This is their fight for All of Us and we need to support that effort, not co-opt it or take it over.
American thugs, taxpayer supported, beating indigenous people(still) again, for corporate profit.
Where/when have we seen this before? Everywhere, every when.

peace to the water protectors, truly Gaia's chosen warriors.

Terrible things going on there now, and promise of more to come. This is an internal battle, not airplanes into buildings. A war being fought in North Dakota, not seen on TV. Not interpreted for what it is. My hope/fear is that and election shenanigans will wake up the what? 70%? who stayed under the radar or asleep until now.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

A tax revolt would be a great start. Simply declare yourself exempt from withholding. Join a union. Push and keep pushing for things like postal banking. Do your best to boycott as many products manufactured by large corporate concerns. Cut the cable and let the cable companies know why you are doing it. It is happening but not fast enough. Most people can't separate themselves from their smart phone or tablet for more than a few minutes unless they are asleep. Speaking of devices, make sure that your data is not tracked through your browser other than ip address, browser type and operating system. Where available, switch your power supply to a renewable source. I was able to do that easily as power from wind or solar is offered as an alternative. If you are a salaried worker, tell your boss that your pay must reflect the hours actually worked. Write your congress people weekly or even just twice a month and let them know what you think. What matters in this action is not so much what you think but that they know that you are aware and paying attention and that you vote. Never borrow money from a bank. Buy as much food as you can from farmer's markets and/or co-ops.

In part, we got ourselves into this mess by complacency and misplaced trust. It will take a lot of changes by a lot of people to dig ourselves out.

"I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones."
John Cage

The less money we give to the corporatocracy the less they have to use on trying to control us. However after driving by a couple malls in my area today and seeing how packed the parking lots were it appears they will be well funded to destroy us, at least for the near future. This consumption mentality has got to come to an end, the sooner the better.
